        Also that is the fakest looking lightning I've ever seen.

        evolution on their planet would likely give some species tool carying hands, like ours, then give them larger brains, let them stand upright to see predators...it makes sense that we'd look relatively similar. becasue our basic design lends it self well to using tools and clothing, something the aliens would also have to evolve to do.

        similarly with tech, becasue they'd come to the logical conclusions that we do regarding practicality and function in inventions.

I wonder if everything is done in 3D or if the UFO is superimposed on real video. I would guess the first because there's no people in it. What I want to know is who made this and with what? But since all you really see are an outline of land and trees, these were probably all CG as well. Impressive attempt at the "cell-phone" video look, though.

    On the flip side though, with cgi being able to reproduce video so realistic, video proof is no longer enough, and we already discount eye witness accounts.
    The only way at this point to prove their existence is for every person in the world to see the same thing with their own eyes at the same time, and we know that is never going to happen.

  • aoru, on 01/01/2008, -0/+4My biggest pet peeve on viral videos is that when cgi is involved they NEVER get the zoom, auto focus, and shake right. Especially the zoom and auto focus part. It always looks so unnatural.

      • InitialDMP5, on 01/01/2008, -0/+6I totally agree. However, there is a process called Matchmoving that has to be done with the video source footage before the 3D footage can be composited. In order to get the matchmove to work, you need to do what is called tracking. Once you track enough points, it creates a 3D mapping of the tracking points and you can use that data to have your 3D object match the very subtle camera movements that occur. So any person who has done tracking knows that its very hard to track motion blur. So what is done is called a post camera move.

        All of this is very time consuming and technical, requiring multiple programs and data. So for something like this video that is not professional and lacking a big budget and a studio of people working on it, you can expect problems. But when I see it I am impressed. As a fellow visual effects artists I totally respect that guy for the work he put together.

        Also, I feel sorry for the people who had to track the cameras in Cloverfield, but I'm guessing they did a lot of post camera moves as well.
