- Kanuhduh, on 07/01/2008, -1/+21With the increased insurance costs after getting the ticket, you'll lose out in the long run.
- guillebravo6, on 07/01/2008, -1/+18Free headset if you get a tickets at handsets.com, that's sweet!
- AngelinaJolie01, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11Isn't it illegal to incite people to break the law?
- CVL4317, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9great, more unfocused drivers behind the wheel.
- arjie, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Suddenly, you see every police officer wearing a Plantronics Discovery 925.
On a serious note, hasn't research shown that it's the attention loss associated with handling a phone call that's the dangerous bit? I remember reading that loudspeaker mode or headsets weren't an improvement. - inactive, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Businesses are getting desperate for people to consume their products, but that is not gonna happen.
- chickcomedy, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4I'm so doing this!
- Jawshy, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Either Jason, Tom, or Molly on Buzz Out Loud said there is no increased insurance cost. I do not know how true that is, though.
- EtherGnat, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Actually research has shown that while talking on the phone is dangerous whether you use a handsfree device or not, having passengers in your car does not increase your odds of having an accident.
The speculation is that while conversations with passengers might be distracting, they also help watch for hazards which offsets the distraction. - dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2"On second thought, it IS California, maybe the target is all those illegals that don't have auto insurance or driver's licenses to begin with."
Why would this law target illegals?
It makes no sense to me. I do live in California by the way... - Alniner, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2***shameless self promotion***
He's selling them for $129 usd, you could buy it from me for $95.00 CAD before you get the ticket. - gbarger, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Considering the ticket is $20, it might be worth getting caught to get something of value that is worth far more than that.
- ajv570, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Well not to mention if you lead them on a chase you have to pay an extra fine to pay for there gas
- dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1I know they are promoting themselves but I wouldn't consider giving away free headsets as "profit".
Is promoting yourself by using a crime illegal? - EtherGnat, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1It likely depends on what state you live in and which insurance company you use. I know when I moved it changed some of the things that would affect my insurance premium.
- pwner, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2I worry if Diggers actually read the article. Did you see that headset? Would you pay 149.99 for it? I can find better headsets for less than 20 dollars online.
- HippyJM, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1There is a law against profiting off of a crime (ie - selling movie rights to your heist, writing a book about your crime, etc).
- EtherGnat, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1The Discovery 925 is a high-rated headset, so it appears you have no idea what you're talking about. The list price is inflated, though. It's available for $80 shipped on Amazon.
- donna1234, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1 According to CEO Mike Faith, Headsets.com will, for a limited time at least, give away the Plantronics Discovery 925, which retails at $149.99

http://www.alobre.info - Pvisi111, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2I'm calling everyone on my address book just so I can make sure I get a ticket while driving haha.
- beckerist, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Cost of a speeding ticket:
for more than 15 mph above the limit, upwards of $300, even so it'll run you at least $100
for first and second offense, maybe no increase to insurance premiums, maybe a little bit.
After your third offense a mandatory $450 a year in State penalties and at least $300 INCREASE every 6 months
Savings on a headset I wasn't going to buy anyway: $0.
...not worth it by a long shot! - beckerist, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1where the hell are you speeding?!!? I want THAT judge to give me my tickets
$20 really? Have you ever gotten caught speeding? Hell, are you even 16 yet? - FUR10N, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1it is also happening in north carolina, why no mention of that?
- cvindustries, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Which is silly, because we promote carpooling, which invites conversation by having a driver with other people in the car - which research has shown is the dangerous bit.
- minorthreat, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1Just because they it has a price tag of $149 does not mean it is worth more than $20 to me.
*sigh* I wish we would return to the bartering system.
