- bdub92, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Where are the tubes connecting these internets?
- bbschaefer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25They're clogged with porn and gambling.
- TDot1980, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Thanks, Captain Geography!
- TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Now I can find my way out of the internets! Thanks, Digg!
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Where are the tubes?
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Australia is counted as asia-pacific if you guys are looking for it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9the guy that made that is awesome.
the hardest I've laughed in a week:
http://xkcd.com/c155.html - daBosq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's because Google isn't one server, but many servers. When drawing the map, Randall just plotted the IP address that he got at the time of trying (see blag.xkcd.com), but Google (and most other high-traffic sites) will give you a different IP address when you look them up at different times. And of course these will get plotted at slightly different points.
-- Hourann (maker of the map) - FrankTheTank9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Neat idea.
- JesusFaction, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Halp
im in various registrars - earlgreyrooibos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8LOL. This is so much fun! Now I am going to have to read xkcd . . . .
- nphp20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Notice how the box your dot is located in is labeled "U.S. & CANADA." (The ampersand is a little difficult to see)
Same thing with me, I live in Florida but I'm near the bottom of the US and Canada box, so I first thought it said I was in Canada. - bobbygeorgina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Some sites are pre-marked on the map (for example Google). However, when I locate Google it is not in the same place.
...Very odd. - RPharazon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I live in Canada, but why does it say I'm in the U.S?
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It depends on who your ISP is.
- RpgActioN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Enzyte?
- Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm right between DISA and Cable TV. My god, I'm in spook land (DISA, UK MOD, DoD Intel).
- thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was horribly wrong: http://kagan.com/archive/kagan/2001/07/23/kbb0723-8.shtml
But that's cool, I learned something neat. Thanks Digg! - StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I applaud your genius. Could you also list all open ports and what software you're running on those ports? Maybe even link to some exploits for said programs?
- BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Neat, but why is all the "land" white and all the "water" green?
- aaronm67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The "Last 1000 visitors" is pretty cool. Look how crowded the "Cable TV" box is.
- wtcajesuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://xkcd.com/ rawks my sawks. =) The fact that I get 90% of the jokes helps. The warning at the bottom of the page says it all:
Warning: this comic occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors). - andrewry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It seems like a lot of people live near me (assuming IP's are structured differently for places in the US).
- thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My ISP is Mediacom, yet I'm in IP space of Bell Labs? interesting. AFAIK Mediacom and AT&T have no connections.
- 4UIDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It thinks I'm in Canada... WTF !!
- StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The intarblags are a polluted place, my friend. Very polluted indeed.
- 10001110101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Broken - I ran it, and it said I was in "loopback".. What country is that?!?
- halosniper7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3127.0.0.1...
- elck03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1one word: CIDR
look it up - Sphonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oddly enough, this IP (the IP of the school I work at which is essently the IP for the entire NSW Department of Education and Training) seems to inidicate I am in North America, when I really come from the land down under, you know, where women glow and men plunder.
- evilgod69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hmm, maybe you should do a little more research. see http://www.spamhaus.org/statistics/countries.lasso
- daBosq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Was the red dot on the edge of the "loopback" square? If so, you really belong in the square next door, and it's just because of a charting inaccuracy. (The map is hand-drawn, so the dot placement is a little rough -- the faint blue circle shows my guess of the error area.)
The other way to tell is the label: you belong in the square marked by that first number before the dot. So you should be in the 127 square only if the address in brackets begins with 127, as in "You (127.0.0.1)". But that shouldn't happen, because addresses beginning with 127 are reserved for loopback, i.e. connecting back to your own computer.
-- Hourann (maker of the site) - SpacemanSpiff01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm closer to google is than they are, weird.
- stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1check out "loopback"
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why is USA and Canada on the left and North America on the right?
On nevermind I forgot there are multiple internets. - somon90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm between Europe,US department of defense,Japan INET and Loopback
- wadem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That'll teach me for trying to be smart and dropping in 127.0.0.1 :P
*yawns* getting images from xckd, and overlaying what a lame idea. It's not even a complex diagram that requires overlaying. - buttpope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey lets all bitch about small inaccuracies!
- 314159271828, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This sucks, I am at 169.232.125.176, located in Los Angeles, and the map places me in "various registrars". Not very accurate at all...
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm very close to the right of flickr.
- shanaravendare, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I seem to be almost directly on top of Ebay! Very strange.
- bensmawfield, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Buried for making no sense.
- Klostrophobic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Nah, just your mom.
- whymanwhy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Damm MIT has as big a space as google and other major corporations. They are the plumbers of these pipes that we call the internets.
- bellisland, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Im down the street from google.
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2*goes to ban all non-english speaking countries from forums*
Wohoo, no more spam! - thisisjason, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0xkcd punched me in the face!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2ok well i thought i knew where i was, but after doing that, i think im lost
and btw jesusfaction, it looks like you were being sarcastic and using an "a"instead of "e" in "help". If you were, then you should know that the fact is that RegistrArs is the correct way of spelling it. -
