- nihil, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Just another liberal attempt to "help" you "improve" your life by making it all but impossible for you to engage in an activity you might enjoy but is "bad" for you.

- DanThePainter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Did anyone get a comment from Senator Clinton? Her husband can't like this.
- JohnReb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Obviously this is an attempt to bankrupt Fred Thompson's campaign. :-)
- KMye, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The comments are right there for everyone at the bottom of the story, and more current than your post will be. Unnecessary, and annoying.

I didn't know that it was Congress's job to put people out of business. Taxes and politicians , we can do without both.
by TOM 07/17/07 08:53 AM
"Here's the source of the controversy: The Democrat controlled Congress." What other public good taxes have the Democrats got in store for us ?
by MOIRA 07/17/07 08:49 AM
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER WAY TO OVER TAX WHEN WE ALREADY SPEND 93 DAYS A YEAR TOWARDS TAXES,NOT TO MENTION ALL THE DAY IN AND DAY OUT TAXES. TAKE NOTE, CONGRESS IS GETTING GREEDY AGAIN. WHAT NEXT??
by Ken 07/17/07 08:47 AM
I quit smoking a few years ago, but I find this proposal entirely insane. Tea Party, indeed. Except, we had real leaders back then.
by Joe 07/17/07 08:45 AM
Tax and spend. What else did you expect from the Democratic Congress? This is extortion.
by Dave 07/17/07 08:44 AM
Instant black market.

I AM A 65 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO'S FATHER USED TO ENJOY A FEW GOOD PUFFS ON A CIGAR OCCASIONALLY TO RELAX AND REFLEX. WE CHILDREN ALWAYS KNEW THAT WHEN FATHER WAS ENJOYING A DRAG OR TWO OF HIS CIGAR HE WOULD BE IN A GOOD MOOD.CONGRESS IS OUT OF CONTROL.
by Brad 07/17/07 08:41 AM
Don't worry, El Rushbo will get this defeated.
by Fred 07/17/07 08:41 AM
What next? $10 Big Macs? There are work-arounds to social engineering--it's called organized crime.
by Jake 07/17/07 08:38 AM
I did not vote for the tax and spend democrats. Did you? Did Mr. Newman? Some fools did. But there is some justice. Congress has an approval rating of just half that of the president's rating.
by Nathan 07/17/07 08:38 AM
Disguise the shackles of oppression with a cute and cuddly outer appearance. This is just another play from the fascist Democrat hypocrisy machine.
by Max 07/17/07 08:37 AM
Obviously you folks have never been to Ontario where a good puff can set you back $50. Those who do appreciate cigars will spend more for them.. Although 10 bucks per stick tax is a bit extreme.
by Al 07/17/07 08:37 AM
(sarcasm on) It's for the children! (sarcasm off)
by charlie 07/17/07 08:32 AM
liberalism is the bain of society, the scourge of the earth. I hate them. If it passes, I hope the black market prevails and the govt ends up with less taxes. I feel for the legit cigar people though.
by Steve 07/17/07 08:32 AM
Instead of retiring here in 3 years. I'll move to Belize or Costa Rico or any other place where I can enjoy the "freedom" of smoking a cigar.
by BG 07/17/07 08:30 AM
Can anyone say "Tea Party?"
by Dave 07/17/07 08:27 AM
Just another example that the liberals are Socialists in Democrat clothing.
by Don 07/17/07 08:26 AM
Well, this explains how they were going to pay for the socialized medicine. I think its about time for another revolution, lets throw politicians into Boston harbor this time !!!
by Luis 07/17/07 08:25 AM
Cigars are in the same category as wines and single malts: Celebratory, enjoyment, relaxation. Please leave them be.
by Mike 07/17/07 08:11 AM
Our Federal Representitives just don't get it. We need those that support tax increases to be replaced with those that call for tax reduction. If 75% of us believe congress is doing a bad job then locally we need to find new represenitives.
