- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+34I actually had a relative who supervised bottling at a Coca-Cola plant in India and you wouldn't believe how strict they are with regards to what goes into the bottle. Water goes through a process of being distilled many times before it is used in any drink. The Coca-Cola company takes it's formulation very seriously and why would they tarnish their brand name by using running water? Drinking Coke is probably one of the safest things you can drink in India, apart from bottled water. Just make sure you don't mix it with ice, lots of tourists fall for that trap..
- Shivalyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Well, it may not be healthy for me but at least I'll be free of bugs.
- barichardson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Water...like from the toilet?
- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25and because, "Things go better with Coke."
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21The phosphoric acid probably kills them (that's the same ingredient in most sodas that is used commercially as a rust remover, and that will also dissolve bones, as it reacts with calcium.) And people actually deliberately drink that stuff!!

There, just for you Akaji - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21"In regards to environmental issues in India, there has been a controversy over pesticides possibly showing up in the product..."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Coca-Cola_Company#Criticism - IareKEVLAR, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21Not about cocaine.
Story does not deliver. - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Someone needs to watch the episode of Mythbusters where they test all of these alternative uses for Coke. The only one that wasn't busted? Chrome cleaner/rust remover.
- strikes12, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15"someone told me that coke contains pesticides. So we started using it, it seems to be working." just me or is the world we live in very f^ed up?
- billraydrums, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Other uses for Coke-
Toilet cleaner: The carbonic acid will eat anything off porcelain. Just dump a can of coke in your toilet and in the AM, give a flush. Clean toilet bowl. BTW Add a little water so that it raises the normal waterline and that will get the ring out.
Bolt loosener: hen I was a kid and working on my bicycle, a mechanic neighbor taught me a cool trick- if you have a sticky bolt, crack open a can of coke, drip some on the frozen part and give it a few minutes. That bolt will break free no problem.
I'm sure there's a website somewhere giving the "101 uses for Coca-Cola" but those are two real-life instances I've used the stuff, other than drinking it. - Rekzai, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Coke > Pepsi
- overtoke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10what next? poisonous cat food?
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Coke is no more adept at cleaning battery terminals than baking soda.
- Dhruv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This is total ***** , nothing like this happens in India. Coke is still costly then pesticide and less effective (even if it is effective in any way). This is example of rumor on steroids, every Indian like me knows no ***** like this happens here. Farmers are not idiots to spend their fortune on coke to spray it in fields , some random guy did this what you are reading . Like always , someone is using the power of internet to spread bullcrap.
- MikeDugg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10My friend from India told me about this a year ago, I just didn't really believe him.... wow. No wonder my doctor told me I should never, under any circumstances, drink soda, not even Diet.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9And Coke is no more adept at cleaning blood off of roads than is plain water.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Yes, it's showing up in the product because it's bottled there, with the water. They might as well just spray the water, that is the source of the pesticide.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yep, ive used it on an old Motorcycle i bought, the Exhaust pipe hadd all rust spots coming out all over it. Got some Aluminum Foil, and poured some coke over the Pipe, gave it a scrub, and was totally impressed with the result. got rid of ALL the surface rust.
- CyanSnowHawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The poison is in the dose. All naturally occurring chemicals will find their way into your body. How toxic they are, depends on the quantity within you. At a high enough dosage, water is poisonous as samdu says above.
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Let's use your reasoning in other areas of life:
1. Zikes! Did you know they use water to wash out the clogged pipes at sewage plants? Why do we put this stuff in our bodies?
2. Yowsers! Did you know that oxygen reacts with vegetable oils and makes them rancid. I can't imagine why people feel safe putting this stuff into their bodies. - jsg7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But do the insects prefer Coke or Pepsi?
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Y'know what else is deadly? Water. Better strike that from your diet, too. It'll be best for everyone.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I havent had coke for about a year.. I dont even like the crap. Lemonade is the way to go.
- greenjohnsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Coke has also been plundering India's water reserves.

Just do a Google search for India & water & coke - JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7omfg thank you for the idiocracy comment... IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE to notice this. "Its got Electrolyte's!"
- TroubleInMind, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Also, keep in mind that saliva causes stomach cancer - but only when swallowed in small amounts over a long period of time...
/nod to George Carlin - thePavelish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5cleaning it?
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, I don't know if the insects can tell, actually. When I worked at a Soft Drink manufacturer, we would sometimes spill the syrup boxes, for soda fountains like at fast food joints, outside in the loading area by dropping it off of a fork lift or something. Anyhow, the yellow jackets loved it, and would drink it up, and they seemed to actual prefer the diet products. I sometimes wondered if they would later die of starvation, since they weren't actually getting any energy from the syrup, but were filling up on something non-caloric.
- geojams, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Coke is the new Brawndo.
- fgsfds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Caffeine is a potent neurotoxin, and one to which humans have an impressive resistance. However, insects have no such luxury and thus end up twitching as their nervous system destroys itself.
This is why Coke and Pepsi are an acceptable pesticide while not being particularly harmful to humans - not all lifeforms are poisoned by the same things. - howdareyou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I did an experiment once to see which liquid was best for your plants. I used water, coke, vinegar, orange juice and nothing. The plants were identical except what they were given to drink. The plant that seemed the healthiest was the plant given coke. I figured the high amounts of sugar and Co2 were beneficial to healthy plant growth.
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So ***** what. Sugar water has long been used as a pesticide ( http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=2&cat=2,51555&p=10298 ). Another good bug killer is beer.
- Cockdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Someone should leak that drano whitens teeth. Hopefully we can knock a few of these retards of our planet.
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@idonthack: Have you ever heard of reverse osmosis and/or activated carbon? Not only can you remove chemicals from water, but combined with an ion exchange resin you can have water that is MORE pure than produced by distillation. You should look them up sometime. I have an R/O system with a deionizing resin bed under my sink. You can test it with a conductivity meter any time and will always read around 20 megaohms.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@rm999, communist controlled south? i dont know where you got that from, there is only one southern state that has communists in power, and that is the smallest southern state too
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4my throat hurts
- overtoke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i hear the coca-cola from mexico contains cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.
maybe the fact that more and more corn is being used as fuel will affect the amount of corn syrup that "poisons" our foods today. - toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@graemee
"electrolites"
Really?
Talk about Idiocracy. - dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey remember the have a coke and a cancer ad?
- Disfnord, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6And tooth free, too!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Christ you people will belive anything as long as its anti-corporate. This is pure *****.
- dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If it don't have sugar alcohol caffeine or chocolate in it why would I want to eat it? You are not going to live forever and, I don't want my last thought to be gee I should have ate that donut today.
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Interesting link.. why they need to color danone with crushed insects is beyond me.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1playthev
It is also where all this controversy is stemming from. If it really bothers you, ignore the communist remark, but my point still stands that this is pointless propaganda (regardless of who is really fabricating it). - CyanSnowHawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Probably a good idea to stay away from diet soda. The artificial sweeteners are little understood. Not too fond of the high fructose corn syrup either, it's not like real sugar.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The original cola: Coca-Cola. What can't it do...
