- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+73The cell phone was probably too busy making calls to pay attention to the road.
- gr3yn3t, on 10/10/2007, -1/+57none. it's advertising.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+51Wow an article about a phone, .....but not the Iphone. Never thought Id see that on digg.
- Nobiting, on 10/10/2007, -10/+48DUPE http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Weird_accident_caused ...
- hammerpants, on 10/10/2007, -6/+31Yeah, but don't we appreciate it when talented artists get to display their work, even if it is in an ad? Lighten up. At least they didn't call you in the middle of dinner or something.
Dugg to piss you off. - LaueOfficer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21NOWAI! It was on purpose?!?! Unpossible!
- SlvrEagle23, on 10/10/2007, -16/+30Stop it! STOP IT!!!
This is an advertisement. A blatant, obvious advertisement created exclusively to prey upon people's apparent need to be manipulated by corporate forces. This latest round of RAZR ads is meant to suggest that the phone is as "sharp" as the object for which it is named...and this is just an oversized extension of this. There is a billboard right next to this staged area, and the whole setup screams "viral ad" at every opportunity.
We are a society that is completely averse to advertisement. Ads piss us off. Here on the Internet, there was a time when a pop-up and banner blocker could lay waste to the presence of advertisement...that is, until companies realized they could manipulate the very dumbest part of us that is attracted to shocking or disgusting or outlandish things for their own nefarious gains. That is exactly what this is...it's blatant, obvious manipulation and it pisses me way the hell off. Get this off Digg's homepage. - deborah195, on 10/10/2007, -14/+27Wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it! What are the odds?
- Verdanic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14In all fairness, you can read it as quickly or as slowly as you'd like.
- itseffinkasey, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16I buried you just because you don't know how to spell "the."
- HairyGrapeNuts, on 10/10/2007, -12/+20Great success! (Borat voice)
- choppinbroccoli, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm officially retarded. It's definitely viral marketing.
- Disease, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Even more ironic is if the pictures were taken with a Razr 2 camera.
- elvenseven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thank you, Captain Obvious!
- saifatlast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Interestingly, I read it as fast as well.
- Jews, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5*T-mobile jingle* HELLO!? YEAH I AM IN MY CAR!
I miss trigger happy - kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7yeah id have no problem with it being a dupe had the other one not made it to the front just last night. but that's not the case... buried!
- Kamill85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No way!!! Did you have some kind of brainstorm with your friends before coming to this shocking conclusion?
- Calculon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Seems like just yesterday I was reading the SAME STORY.. oh wait i did. I like how top 10 digg stories are 5 of the Engadget top 10.
- aguraki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Seriously, you *****, it's fake. Motorola did that on purpose. Its not a real crash.
- GhostSniper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Weird_accident_caused ...
- objectcode, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9my ***** is huge
- choppinbroccoli, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I thought it was some sort of viral marketing at first... They are marketing the phone like it is so sleek it cuts things up... I guess a Mercedes was just the next logical step.
- GhostSniper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I see what you did there....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The RAZR's what?
- nakile, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I was expecting the cellphone to have shattered and the car to be without a scratch. Crappy RAZR's.
- obehere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2OK, then ...... Irony is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is a gap or incongruity between what a speaker or a writer says and what is generally understood (either at the time, or in the later context of history). Irony may also arise from a discordance between acts and results, especially if it is striking, and seen by an outside audience. Irony is understood as an aesthetic evaluation by an audience, which relies on a sharp discordance between the real and the ideal, and which is variously applied to texts, speech, events, acts, and even fashion. All the different senses of irony revolve around the perceived notion of an incongruity, or a gap between an understanding of reality, or expectation of a reality, and what actually happens.
- TripcodeMel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Obvious ad - Car's got no license plates. Also, buried for dupe.
- thunderer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I disagree! The blame clearly lies with the camera CCD's grain causing decreased visibility.
- jp3550, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They probably canceled their verizon contract.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Motorola should spend more time fixing its ***** OS and UI and less time dicking around with advertising.
- arjie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm just curious. Perhaps you thought that everyone else thought that a real giant phone went flying through the air and smashed into a parked Mercedes? I don't know where you live but that doesn't happen here. I won't be buying a Razr, but it's always nice to see interesting ways of advertising. Hence, I shall digg the article.
Oh, and I don't know why, but the first four letters of your username, they make me laugh. - GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hello, Moto?
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The reason nobody got it is because you forgot to change it to bends. ;)
- Majorkerina, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I thought those size phones died years ago.....
- whisperedlie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I hate these sorts of advertisement campaigns
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll take the over
- ReapZor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thats odd, because the article surely suggests it... this is a twice dupe anyway. buried
- da_bradler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1who cares, shouldn't we be supporting cool things that make us laugh? you can't avoid all advertisement so why not support the stuff that we like?
- flangepiece, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You forgot to close your tags.
- blackmage439, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Gotta watch out when it's Razeruses mating season... I hear it's a nightmare.
- Universal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Gives 'car-phone' a whole new meaning.
- Satanael, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3How genius would that be for viral marketing?
- Pinkertinkle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4It's an AD!!! AN AD!! BURIED!!! Don't be a tool of Motorola!
- da_bradler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2lol if this was the iPhone it would be getting praised as the more brilliant marketing move ever, but since it's not everybody is busy bitching about how it was stagged.
- variable, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Enormous RAZR cuts into Mercedes."
- tucktan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dugg for description
