- Hawker400, on 10/17/2007, -13/+171It's amazing how a small personal sacrifice can have such a profound effect on someone else's life. Unfortunately, the major news networks are so caught up in sensationalism and negative news that they fail to highlight the many stories like this that occur each and every day.
- vulcanius, on 10/17/2007, -4/+140So sad.
Lake Fenton High's 'King Eli' loses fight with leukemia
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/highschool/news/sto ... - procopy, on 10/16/2007, -11/+130Selfless acts. So rare these days. My prayers are with Eli and his family. Kudos to the Lake Fenton Five.
- jessdub99, on 10/17/2007, -13/+96A true act of kindness would have been him ***** the prom Queen.
- ssravp, on 10/17/2007, -3/+85Dugg for a good story even though they should have just linked to the original story.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=30591 ... - WNW3, on 10/17/2007, -5/+85Once one guy said he wouldn't run against him it was all over. Could you imagine being the holdout? "No way! I wanna be the king! I ain't steppin' down!" You'd be the most hated person ever.
- UoMDeacon, on 10/17/2007, -6/+49I'm sorry that someone forcibly made you click the link, and then coerced you into reading the article.
Oh wait, no one did that. - frostmonkey, on 10/17/2007, -0/+42Actually no, she only won because she has elephantiasis. They just felt bad for her too
- technogenius, on 10/17/2007, -9/+50We did this with our Prom queen, She had MS. It was pretty much unspoken that everyone was going to vote for her, we all did though.
- lostarchitect, on 10/22/2007, -5/+46While I agree that this is really sweet and that I would like to find out about more stuff like this, it's the last thing I want on the major network news. They should be showing real, major stories that affect the nation and the world. Some news outlets would probably love to fill their broadcasts with feel-good puff pieces instead of telling us how many American soldiers and Iraqis died today.
- Sengwad, on 10/17/2007, -1/+39This is a great story. I lost my older sister to Leukemia when I was in high school, just as she was graduating. Teen Cancer is an important issue for the obvious reasons, but more importantly there is a gap in adolescent health care. If you are a teen with cancer, you either get put in a drab adult ward, or the children's ward filled with sesame street characters. In addition, treatment regiments are not developed specifically for teens. As my sister Melissa was dying, she urged us to make a difference for other teens with cancer. As a result we started Melissa's Living Legacy foundation and Teens Living with Cancer (www.teenslivingwithcancer.org). It is our goal to increase awareness of teen cancer and to bridge the gap in treatment. We run workshops for hospital staff to help them communicate with teenagers and run www.teenslivingwithcancer.org to provide teenagers resources to deal with their disease. Everyone can make a difference just as these high schoolers did. Great job!
- kraniac, on 10/17/2007, -6/+41If I was that kid, I'd feel degraded by the entire school for winning a popularity contest simply because I had a disease. How terrible it would feel to have your entire personality reduced to a disease you had no choice in contracting!
But, I'm not him. If he enjoyed it, then good was done, and I certainly won't take that away from the people that tried to help. - GeneralFailure0, on 10/22/2007, -3/+34It's illegal to have sex with robots?
- Mila, on 10/17/2007, -3/+30It is always nice to hear about the good things teenagers do and not just all the bad.
- mrjit, on 10/16/2007, -3/+29Why can I totally picture the girls doing it though?
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -1/+27I don't know, just program it to lie about its age.
- brianbb98, on 10/17/2007, -4/+29I know.... Take a look at foxnews.com.. It might be different now but earlier the main headline was about when we could legally have sex with robots. I'm not even kidding...
- h4mx0r, on 10/17/2007, -2/+27so if I built a sex-bot, I'd have to wait like 16-18 years until I'm allowed to use it?
- allywilson, on 10/16/2007, -4/+28That's awful. At least he was King for a day. Thoughts and condolences to his family, friends and schoomates.
- TheDreadDiggerD, on 11/09/2007, -2/+26Because women are evil, mostly.
- Myonosken, on 10/16/2007, -5/+29Not in a topic like this. Please.
- xaogypsie, on 10/22/2007, -1/+24I am fighting Leukemia myself. It is good to see others rally around my sisters and brothers in the fight, though also sad to learn that he didn't make it.
- ArmyOfFun, on 10/17/2007, -6/+27So... when exactly did it say we could have legal robot sex?
- ghettodev, on 10/16/2007, -2/+22Sans blogspam: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=30591 ...
- Kinkistyle, on 10/27/2007, -3/+21A touching story. Welled up a bit.
Unfortunately Eli lost his fight with Leukemia yesterday October 14th. Here's the followup article from ESPN.com:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/highschool/news/sto ... - MicrosoftBob, on 10/18/2007, -5/+20One of these days you will regret making that comment.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/16/2007, -3/+18No, douches perform a service.
- h4mx0r, on 10/17/2007, -1/+16http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/highschool/news/sto ...
Unfortunately Eli lost the fight with leukemia on Sunday. Condolences to his family and friends. - inactive, on 10/22/2007, -25/+40SO is that why everyone voted for Bush the 2nd time then? Because of his learning disability and minimal intelligence?
- androo, on 10/17/2007, -1/+16its only legal if it consents and is of legal consent age (varies by state)
- Brodels, on 10/16/2007, -3/+17Nice story. Am I the only one that thinks it was really poorly written though?
- VyPR, on 10/16/2007, -6/+20I'd Digg it twice if I could
- BalsamLane, on 10/16/2007, -6/+20Good Karma.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -2/+15Not funny.
- SocialPoison, on 10/16/2007, -1/+13I think you were being sarcastic... but just in case.
Here's your ticket. - ridrifter, on 10/16/2007, -1/+13Finally a high school story that does not involve guns or drugs. Great story.
- MicrosoftBob, on 10/18/2007, -3/+15Then go back to your little Warcraft world and let the rest of us express some goddamn empathy. (I just *knew* the ***** would come out for this one.)
- TannerC, on 10/22/2007, -5/+17Dying boy article reaches Top 10 in All Categories on Digg.com homepage thanks to kindness of Diggers.
- tHePeOPle, on 10/16/2007, -1/+13Um... yeah... that headline is... er... sensationalist and... uh... so, exactly when can we legally have sex with robots then? A friend of mine wants to know...
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+13What a stupid comparison. This is homecoming, not government. It really won't hurt you to elect him.
- Bdog2g2, on 10/17/2007, -2/+13"They should be showing real, major stories that affect the nation and the world"
You mean like "Brittney gets back partial custody of her kids." ? - SilentJay74, on 10/16/2007, -5/+16This was a great post. It is good to see something other than bad news once in a while.
- MicrosoftBob, on 10/17/2007, -4/+15Cynical much?
- fmorel90, on 10/16/2007, -0/+11Proof that girls don't visit Digg: you're being dugg up.
- SocialPoison, on 10/16/2007, -1/+12Back under your bridge, Tehjarvis.
- DonKarnage25, on 10/18/2007, -1/+11You're an attention whore. You should see some form of counseling for that.
- sadsadrobot, on 10/16/2007, -0/+10I totally agree with Xedlos... just treat people nicely while they're healthy.
- MagicCake, on 10/16/2007, -0/+9@fmorel90
***** dude, even girls know most of 'em are evil. Just ask. - jdinatale, on 10/16/2007, -2/+11I would have dugg this, but they linked to their blog instead of the actual article hoping to make some ad money off the "digg affect".
- feoren, on 10/18/2007, -9/+18I know, it's so sweet! It's like saying "Normally you'd never have a hope at being popular, but since you're dying we'll give you the worthless non-honor of winning a trivial popularity contest (only for one day though!) so that all the girls at the school will think we're amazing guys and have sex with us." Awwwww. Give me a ***** break. The real heartwarming story would be if this guy's Leukemia magically transferred into these five douchy ***** who are going to graduate from their popular football highschool life to spend the rest of their worthless lives bagging groceries and wishing someone else they knew would become terminally ill so they could get chicks to have sex with them again.
