- UnFriendlyFire, on 07/10/2009, -1/+18I call shenanigans. These are not old dumpsters. They look brand new. Old ones would be dented and rusted.
- Krakerjax, on 07/10/2009, -0/+16Its likely filled with chlorine, it's probably safer than your shower.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+12hmm... so dumpsters make good hidden underground grow rooms AND good swimming pools... now i just need one more for a house and im set for life.
- Smokeydabear, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8So if some kids to this to a truck in Alabama they are hillbilly rednecks, but is some Brooklyn folks do this to a dumpers they're visionaries?
- pegothejerk, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7You might be among the first to perish in the event of a global calamity given a continued attitude like that one.
- Narcism, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7Worst. Concept. Pictures. Ever.

http://www.inhabitat.com/wp-content/uploads/dumpst ... - cygnus2112, on 07/10/2009, -0/+6I wonder what the neighbors think. Or if they can't say anything because they have a sofa swing.
- pegothejerk, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5It's hard to tell how they are keeping their system filtered. It looks like on the bottom right side of the main photo you can see one of those surface sweepers, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyone know if you can drop a filter system on the bottom without cutting through the liner/steel?
- drachemorder, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5According to the article, this took place in Brooklyn. You may not have noticed, but rednecks don't really tend to hang out in Brooklyn too much.
- cplusplus, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4Since its in Brooklyn its cool. If it was in the Midwest it would be white trash.
- A5204, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3I'm sure they went out of their way to find some of the nicer used ones. I don't think they just randomly grabbed the first ones they came across.
- pegothejerk, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4I am reading this in Walmart right now.. which aisle is the dumpster aisle?
- 4degrees, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3dont forget the dye that turns the pee red. :-P
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3dumpters are much stronger. shipping containers crush when they are buried.
- cheddaro, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Wouldn't a shipping container make more sense, if you were going to bury it?
- intekra, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Every aisle is the dumpster aisle at WalMart...
- cam0man, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4that will be clean for about 1 day then it will be absolutely disgusting....there's a reason pools have massive filtration systems in them and cost a fortune.
this is cool if you have access to everything right now, but it's def a more complicated process to maintain as a long term solution. - mikemehak, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2you can buy 18' x 4' deep popup pools with pump and ladder for $200 at walmart.
- U2groupie, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I made a jacuzzi out of an old plastic dry ice shipping container... I think this is my new project.
- ChaosProfessor, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3Rural town's usually don't have dumpsters that big laying around
- STPZ, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I just got the greatest idea for a fort
...and now my motivation is gone. Damn you interwebs! - graemee, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Keep smoking that stuff you're smoking.
- cheddaro, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1What would this cost I wonder?
- brutalentropy, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2I was just thinking the same thing. Shipping containers are bigger, and probably not quite as dirty from the start.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1So the loser makes a sweet party area for all this.. But is such a loser that nobody is there and has to photoshop a party in the last couple of pictures? Cool idea, but man, get some friends..
- crapolatime, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1To drain pool at the end of season, open rear door.
- timeshifter, on 07/10/2009, -2/+3Inabitat - design will save the world:
"While dumpsters are not generally destined for the landfill, their point is to use something that is already made and available to create something new."
Exactly how does this "save the world". Dumpsters don't wear out. They're not littering the countyside. They're buying NEW dumpsters for this. Sigh. - KSUdesigner, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1If it were in the midwest it would be an extremely beat up dumpster, and they would've just filled it with water, without a liner or anything.
- SauceSpot, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1looks like they have an external filtration system as seen in the picture to the right with water shooting back in probably from the filters
- DAILYCROW, on 07/10/2009, -0/+120 thousand $$ for an upscale in ground pool system,
In Southern California where you NEED it.
110° all week here in Palm Desert, Ca.
Code officers would be buggy about this option as well.
I love it, though., Out in unincorporated county you get away with it. - banderwocky, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Clever idea.
- DAILYCROW, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Body shop and paint
- maddprof, on 07/10/2009, -0/+0And how do you think "regular pools" get their massive filtration system?
That's right, someone installs them. Not to mention, most home pools filtration systems are below-surface installed (those openings at the sides of pools that your always pulling plants and bugs out of are the intakes to the filters). These tub-style pools would be even easier to install a filtration system to; cut a hole, install intake, run piping. - theonlywizdum, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1It looks like the dumpsters are the large industrial kind, that are about as big as a shipping container. Plus, shipping containers don't open on the top, you would have to cut it.
- zazie09, on 07/16/2009, -0/+0 You can see a video about it here on Babelgum: http://bit.ly/3OiFu
- MrDoug, on 07/10/2009, -2/+2That CAN'T be more economic than buying a regular pool. They aren't that much money to begin with.
- appleseed1234, on 07/10/2009, -4/+1Dammit, the headline gave me the impression that they were converting dumpsters into submarines. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!
- ghatid, on 07/10/2009, -4/+1What do you call people who live in lower socio-economic areas of a city? What color are their necks?
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -9/+1Can you say " Redneck? "
- rlbigfish, on 07/10/2009, -9/+1Somehow, I could see the water becoming rusty.
- mwtapp, on 10/11/2009, -14/+1I would definitely take a shower after swimming in that pool.
