inaccurate, pictures cant make websites - HunterTV, on 10/11/2007, -6/+58"This picture has made the front page before."
Ahhhhh, maybe so.... but did it have a clever title paraphrasing a crap movie in an attempt to be clever?
I think not, my friend. I think not. - DigitalN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20I do believe people have used the word comment abuse so much that they have forgotten what it means.
- chicoer2001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1711 million cars? That's not much considering the country has more than 1 billion people.
- FloppyLlamaDigg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Try a parking ramp instead of a roundabout.
- FuzzyBunny89, on 10/11/2007, -12/+27bury me please.

- Elias1, on 10/11/2007, -15/+26Not in my world.
- mygrayarea, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14"Take a closer look, and you should be able to discern cars parked on sidewalks. And if you look really closely, you might be able to pick out cars double-parked on sidewalks"
At 468 pixels wide that picture takes up a tiny corner of my screen. I'm not going to be able to see any parked cars. - jhnewt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11No, that would be the Lexus, not soviet russia.
- snoogan5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10"Can you zoom this in 400%”
“Wait, I think I see a reflection on the license plate”

“Yep, that’s the guy were looking for.
“Now I need the satellites repositioned so that we can follow this car”
/Thanks CSI and 24 - finista, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Could they make the picture any smaller and ask to look for something something??
- aguita, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9The article is completely inaccurate. They are saying this is a parking lot, with things being double and triple parked. This is clearly a roundabout with a high ratio of buses in the picture.
- othersomethings, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9no.
- hambend, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Traffic in China is absolutely insane. I think it comes from how quickly their nation's infrastructure developed. Over here in the western world cars developed slowly, and we had plenty of time for everyone to learn how to get along on the roadways. In China, the government laid out the roads, handed out the cars, and told the general public to "just go nuts".
They have road rules, but they're impossible to follow when no-oine else is following them. Right of way at intersections is basically just a game of chicken. If you want to drive past another car on a multilane highway, you need to lean on the horn so they don't carelessly try to merge into you. "One way" is more of a guideline than a rule.
I remember once we were driving on a country road, and our guide went to overtake a bus. We were just coming up to a corner, and sure enough just as we pull into the oncoming lane a couple of cars appear, heading right for us. Completely unpeturbed, our guide just pulls even further to the left and lets the oncoming cars go between us and the bus. Scared the bejesus out of me, but none of the drivers seemed to care. - tuxidomasx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10direct:
http://www.treehugger.com/china_468x312.jpg - Waredgo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Dude, that is WAY better than what I've seen in Jakarta! Even the traffic here in Brazil is worse than that.
- KidVicious, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Now that bicycle-centered China is turning into car-centered China, I think we'll be saying goodbye to the world's oil supply pretty soon.
- Onyxblaze, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4wow. Umm I think I'd park in that parking lot at the lower right corner, but that's just a guess
- KyleGoetz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's a bit upsetting that the title and summary here on Digg miss the bigger issue -- the article was not really about bad traffic in China; the important part of the article was that democratically-elected homeowner associations are influencing the central Communist government in the country.

number 1 would be cars
But you should also notice that its about half buses, good use of mass transit! - kitwaites, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@yongke
Every country has traffic, but most countries with roundabouts know how to use them - e.g. you dont pull out and block the exits, or else you get gridlock like in the picture. - xmuzik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2you'd be better off walking
- stevenvh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2And your point being?
- montescue, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3They're using the roundabout wrong. The trucks that are blocking the exits for everyone should not be in the outside lanes if they don't intend to take the next exit. This case of gridlock would be easily solved with a little education.
Do they need to take a test for a drivers license in China? or is it just a matter of applying? - Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Corrected Title:

It's not really that hard to park here in China, cause people park wherever the hell they want. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Looks like any major metropolitan area.

- ohnos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1that pictures from shanghai, and its not even the busy side of town; its on the east side that's still developing.
- Phyrefly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's the roundabout right under the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai... patrolled by traffic police 24/7 due to the tourist crowds.
There is no way for cars to illegaly park on a sidewalk without being fined within five minutes... - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Interesting how the left lane (top left) and the right lane (top right) are completely empty.
This traffic isn't that bad. I'd been driven around in Cairo before, ***** insane. Stop on green, go on red... that's if there are traffic lights. No lanes. Sometimes they post a traffic cop at intersections, but no one listens to them... good thing too, they're usually clueless.
Though, I'm sure there's way worse traffic in China elsewhere. - rholloway, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2irony alert: 3 of 4 exits from that roundabout are blocked COMPLETELY by buses.
- rholloway, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@dragongirl
I remember the days in Park Slope when you had a good chance to park in front of your building--or at least within a block--everyday of the week. Then, people started figuring out how cool PS was, then you had to stop taking your car out past 7. Now...I finally had to move. Vomit on all those entitled little ***** who moved in there now and absolutely destroyed a beautiful neighborhood. Was over at Aunt Susie's Restaurant with my wife for some nostaglia and it took us 20 mins to find a spot 5 blocks away. - fugazi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Sounds like someone is a Chinese nationalist...

@rholloway
Hey dawg,
u's guys don't need no car in PS... u all got "car service", the subway, taxi or u can walk across da bridge to the City...
just kidding... my kid sister has been living there for 25 yrs and all though I haven't visited in 20 yrs. she backs u up.
move out here to the "left coast" we got lots of room. - edebolt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1it's not that hard to park in China except in downtowns of central cities etc. China has a huge and growing infrastructure. Latest estimates are that China uses about 40% of the worlds cement. They have very wide roads and plenty of places to park.
I don't find the air quality in China to be very bad from transportation. The air is very dangerous from industrial output and coal electricity power generation. In many major Chinese cities internal combustion motorbikes are banned and most use electric ones these days. It's true the use of the pedal bicycle is rapidly declining in China. For now there are still very wide lanes for bicycles and even lanes or sidewalks for walking. I would imagine in time some of those lanes might be switched over for motor vehicle traffic.
If you want to talk about a difficult place to park then Singapore is fair game - srilabs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0This is not a big thing for me,coz in Sri Lanka it is same as China.
