They were unobtrusive and I felt it was helping Digg out by occasionally clicking one that genuinely piqued my interest. They got blacklisted again immediately after switching to the current ads.
          Seeing stuff like this just makes me glad I don't get it shoved down my throat on a daily basis.

These ads are just not a good fit for a site that consists mostly of geeks. Advertisers usually target their audience better than this. For instance, ever notice how the target audience for TV commericials during Wheel of Fortune is borderline-retarded people, with products like Head On and "financial services" like J.G. Wentworth ("Got an annuity? We'll give you money NOW!")? How many Diggers are so concerned about wrinkles that they are going to fall for an ad like this?

I used to run them both, but with the latest additions to Scriptblocker, I just run it to block flash animations. Flashblock is still installed, but I currently have it turned off.

I know that sites require ad revenue, but there comes a point where they annoy users or gross them out to the point that we just bypass them. I was waiting for something to happen at work on another computer, so I hopped on Digg to be grossed out by some nasty zits. Non-obtrusive text based Google Ads still show up with the ad blockers running, as they are harder to block, but I don't mind and even click them because they're usually pertinent. I don't know why Digg doesn't just adopt them.

On the other hand, if I block them I'm not helping the websites I visit, so either it sucks. Bottom line to advertisers: Make the ads relevant to your product and make them far less annoying, maybe then I will give them a look and not just completely block out and ignore them as I have built up an immunity to.

If they did, I want to kick them right in the nuts really hard...hard enough so when they see the ad, the have to push aside their nutsack.   • dood, on 01/29/2008, -1/+20It's one thing to have generic every day ads, but this ad is particularly insulting. This company expects us to believe that they have a magic cream that can remove all wrinkles. Digg might as well have penis enlargement pill ads. It's all the same thing: 100% *****.
    I usually only block ads if they are offensive or annoying, because at that point I can safely assume that the site's owner does not care one way or another about the quality of their site. Not to be melodramatic about it, but with this and the zit one, I am awfully close to hitting the ABP here.

  • reverland, on 01/29/2008, -1/+16I don't mind viewing ads for sites that I like, I just wish Digg took the view that Penny Arcade has. They just don't advertise anything on their site, they advertise what they like and what they believe in.

    I have been seeing those pictures for weeks on Digg and was hoping it would make it to the front page one day. The advertising is horrible. If it were a great product the least they could do is use real people. Not take someone that is 20 and make them look 80 and pretend that their product makes that person look 20 again. If there was a product that could do that they wouldn't need to advertise on Digg that's for sure
