- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+125That's nothing. You all should see what I can do now after watching ER for 7 years!
- aznewsh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+102Evidently didn't study hard enough!
- colin409, on 10/10/2007, -1/+65Too bad he didn't learn how not to get caught
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -2/+48As if it's difficult to rob a house?
- Cedargrove, on 10/10/2007, -3/+46I hope no one tries to put the blame on the show for this, or anything related. To take a show like this off the air is like not teaching our children about sexual education because they might learn how to safely have sex. It's about protection for possible victims of theft, not teaching others how to do it. The people who are inclined to steal will do so regardless, at least educate the people who may be their target how to protect themselves.
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42Thief: "Man I'm going to jail!"
Lawyer: "Wait a second, hold on there, do you ever watch the Discovery Channel?"
Thief: "Once in a while"
Lawyer: "What about that show 'It Takes a Thief'?"
Thief: "Hmmmm...Oh yeah I watched it once I think"
Laywer: "Well that's your case right there. The Discovery Channel taught you how to do it!"
Thief: "Brilliant!"
Laywer: "Billiant!"
Laywer: "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to work on these cases....Let's see, the guy who killed his wife that I'm blaming on the state Hunter's Safety course because they taught him how to use a gun. I also have the illegal fisherman that I'm blaming on the grandpa for teaching him how to fish. Oh! I know! The rapist that I'm blaming on the school system because they taught him about sex!!!" - schizogony, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38That's funny, all Discovery taught me was how awesome Mike Rowe is.
- Lorddias, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32Did he come back and try to install a security system?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31I learned how to fly into space from Discovery Channel. Mars is gonna be mine!
- PARAPA, on 10/10/2007, -4/+32It taught me how to do "it" like they do on the discovery channel
- acrodev, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21And we're worried about kids imitating what they see on TV?
- spearce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17I heard the two guys who host the show aren't actually convicts, don't rob the houses themselves, and at night they sleep in hotels.
- Koldkompress, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14It only works with documentaries.
For example, after Discovery's "Shark Week", I terrorized the local beaches and starred in a film with Rob Schneider. - labmouse42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12He should have also watched CSI to learn how to avoid getting caught.
- NovaPrime9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12No, he knows how to be boring as hell and have everyone say about him "Holy *****, is he still around?"
- SenorCardgage74, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11The key I believe is to keep from ejaculating at the crime scene
- DustPuppySnr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10If it's on a TV show, it is already known to some criminals. This is a great way to show people about potential vulnerabilities in their houses. True, that it shows some would be criminals things they don't know yet, but if they learn from TV and not experience, they will probably get busted. :) It's about the millions of house owners that gets educated. Hopefully they do something about it and not complain to the show producers.
- wassim2k, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I learned some stuff by watching porno movies.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11obviously he didn't learn how not to get caught...
- cphelps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Exactly. The problem with putting the blame on the show is that, if this guy had wanted to rob houses bad enough, he would have learned how somewhere else even if the show didn't exist. People are going to do something if they are inclined to, and they'll find the means to somewhere, no matter what exists as a tool for them.
- mt066, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9That sounds so easy but you wouldn't believe how difficult it is.
- CptCheerios, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Well, if those people had watched the show, they would have had the knowledge to stop this.
- rhettmaxwell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7obviously he didn't stay at a holiday inn express
- roodammy44, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You don't need a tv programme to teach you how to break into a house - here's a simple way:
1: smash a window
2: steal stuff
3: run away
It just takes a certain type of person to do it. - asaturn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6yeah, let's NEVER share information. SECURITY THROUGH OBSCURITY ALWAYS WORKS, RIGHT?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Most thieves probably learn how to rob houses by practicing on their own first. Maybe we should ban all locks.
- davidlow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It Makes A Thief
- Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And the Interwebs showed me how to make a bump key.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pwTVBWCijEQ - cesig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5We must stop educating people! As this shows, education is clearly bad and must be stopped!
- Nicksname1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Good stuff
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I thought this was a story about O.J.
- darkfire532, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yeah, I learned how to masturbate from those too
- Blisshead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Think of the children! The greater good! There oughta be a law....
Actually I agree with you, but I'm sure there are people spewing the above tripe right now in a letter to discovery networks. - drmangrum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This isn't about people taking responsibility for their actions, this is about lawyers abusing the system with ***** excuses to get their clients off the hook. Everyone is entitled to a defense. However, lawyers need to take an ethics class and realize that whoring yourself out for a few bucks isn't worth setting guilty men free.
- EdwardoTheGreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I fully agree, I love the show and do not see it as a training video for theifs.
- blackmage439, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3/Sarcasm: Yeah, and Beavis and Butthead taught two kids how to throw a bowling ball out a window and crush some person's skull. Oh, and every carjacking and/or murder in the world is caused directly by kids playing GTA. /end sarcasm.
When are these mentally deranged asshats going to start taking responsibility for their own actions, and when are right-wing overly-paranoid Evangelists going to stop blaming violent multimedia for every crime committed??? Only those pre-disposed to violence will have violent reactions to what they encounter/watch/play/etc. I have been playing bloody first-person shooters, games like GTA, and watching bloody, violent, action-packed movies since I was a baby. I have almost never harmed a person out of anger, and I would never consider committing any sort of crime, let alone a felony. Blame the parents and the people themselves, not the entertainment industry. - Metman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Less time on Discovery Channel, more time on Court TV?
- void, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thats not illegal.
- ericdano, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2House is the man!
- wbeavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Stop and think for a second. The show's premise is that the hosts are former thieves. I would assume that means they were convicted, i.e. caught. Kind of not the best people to get advice from. Especially since the cops are also likely to learn from the show too. The only thing the show can teach is what not to do.
- SSCrow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thats a good show.
I wish it was on air. - drmangrum, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Sadly, this isn't far off the mark. What a sad state our world is in.
- adoggz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3yep, and how to catch murderers from law and order.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hmm... This is why the hacker documentaries and magazines always include that obligatory disclaimer... "This material is for educational purposes only. This station and its affiliates can not be held liable for the actions of its viewers. If you're a moron, please change the channel now. Thank you."
- TjLAXattack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Learning how to do things from TV Shows isn't new. For example, I can tell you how to get (how to get) to Sesame Street.
- jason469, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Discovery Channel Taught Thief How to Rob Houses"
-Yeah, and Chuck Norris has taught me round house kicks to the face will stop anyone dead in their tracks.
-Grey's Anatomy has shown me that if you add a sound track to anything, people will think what you're doing is better.
-E.R. has shown me even I can perform surgery's within 30 mins (with 9 mins of commercials in between).
-Discovery Channel has shown me that in hand to hand combat...a lion would beat humans everytime.
-House(show) has shown me that you can get away with being an A-Hole as long as you save people.
:) - HigherLogic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, wasn't there a story recently about a murder that emulated some of the things on a CSI episode. Something to do with chopping the fingers off and removing the teeth. Could have sworn I read that some where, probably on here.
- LuckyNYC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, I have no idea.
- GolfDude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2discovery took the show off the air a few months ago.. they are no longer producing new episodes of it takes a thief..and dont want to air reruns of it...
- andrgo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh, funnay!
Gotta love the media. -
