- reeder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34***** AT&T.
- siszam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29AT&T helped the government set up a massive internet wiretap operation to spy on Americans. So censorship not really a big surprise.
- PerennialTears, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21I was there and Pearl Jam put on phenomenal show. As people filtered out of Grant Park Pearl Jam and Non-Pearl Jam fans were all saying what a great show it was. They converted all four of my friends that night. I know they get bashed for whatever reason by people like elcaminos, but after seeing that show or any show for that matter, you can't deny that they are something special.
- Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17SO let me get this straight.... we initiate a breakup of AT&T in 1984... by the U.S. Department of Justice antitrust suit against the telephone monopoly... and now they're back together??? ACTING AS A MONOPOLY and promoting SPYING and CENSORSHIP!? OMG WTF BBQ HAX!!!?!?!?
- kmadigan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Good to see there are good people like Pearl Jam using their power to change the world rather than just living it up in mansions with whores and coke.
- DFrag, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Freedom of speech. Why do you hate it?
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10***** you. Go back to listening to Britney Spears or Hanson.
- quacker912, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Dugg for Pearl Jam
- thelastcivilian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8there has to be a joke about wiretapping in here somewhere.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7We had a feeling this might have been what happened. ***** you AT&T!
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Welcome to Corporate America, where it doesn't matter what goes down as long as the people in power get a cut.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"Daughter" is performed with additional lyrics at almost every show. They're called "tags" and are either made up of other song lyrics or improvisational lyrics.
- bloodorange, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Pearl Jam are great, most of the people that hate them is because Kurt Cobain told them told to (do some research and you'll see how Kurt Cobain's comments back in the 90s have made a lasting impression throughout Pearl Jam's career, even today)
- charli2na, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually Iggy Pop and Patty Smith both played Lollapalooza this year so I guess they were engaged in a corporate relationship with AT&T as well?
- LeeMaple, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well at least you can be censored easily...
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3wow. You got owned.
Pearl Jam are hardly a bunch of corporate sell outs. Ditching their record label recently, remember the whole ticketmaster feud? How many music videos have they produced?
But... How many live shows do they do a year? Dozens. They make their money by bringing their music to the people that want to hear it themselves. They don't beg some label exec for a few more pennies on their next album, they go out and they ***** rock out on that stage for a few hours and make thousands of people happy, and begging for more.
Even their merchandise was reasonably fair. The two shows I went to were around $20/shirt, $40/hoodie and $25 for a print of a custom poster made for that particular show (CDN). Thats less than what you pay for "designer" ***** at the gap and places like that.
So please, ***** off, let me rock in peace. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Mmmm, BBQ
- oppositionrad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2anyone over seas should email the CEO of ATT and their Senator who voted for the crap spy legislation passed last week the following - from the the now very rarely seen dean at http://www.textism.com/article/546/ :
nato davos enron wto chechnya milosovic afghanistan cyberterrorism network terror waco oklahoma suicide bomber iraq iran ngo gmo homeland security ashcroft cia nsa fbi saddam hussein chemical weapon mass destruction bush cheney reagan hemp opium bin laden al qaeda andersen cocaine ecstasy anthrax bolivia black helicopters dirty bomb arafat khaddafi taliban. - bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They must have over 200 songs in their arsenal, and you're disappointed that they didn't play one particular song from their very first album that they play on a very regular basis? They put out a new album about a year ago, and put out a new single very recently, yah think they still might wanna reach out to their audience with a message pertaining to current events? Give em a break... Although, they do need to play less even flow.... they play that almost every show.
- CancerBomb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I was pretty close to the front for Pearl Jam's performance. I haven't seen the (supposedly) censored webcast, but Eddie Vedder did sing about George Bush during the "Another Brick in the Wall" part of "Daughter" (although to be honest it was a bit hard to tell what he was saying). He also ranted a bit about how we shouldn't support an oil company (the name eludes me at the moment) that wants to dump their waste into Lake Michigan and during the second encore he did a lot of anti-war stuff, even bringing out an Iraq veteran who was in a wheelchair. Given that the article doesn't indicate that any of this stuff was censored it's not terribly difficult to believe it was a mistake, but who knows these days?
- bytemynd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh crap, sorry I accidentally dugg this comment down, (I meant to digg down elcaminos comment), someone digg it up to rectify my oops
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So white boys with electic guitars... takes care of most of rock and pop... and pretty much country...
so that must leave what? rap, R&B, soul, club music?? that type of stuff?
First, ***** club music, that ***** is just obscene. I have a problem with any song that people feel they must play at max volume all the ***** time. 3 AM! Ohh! Some DJ just put out another stupid version of some 50 cent song! CRANK IT UP! ***** THE NEIGHBORS!.
rap? now I'm not knocking the people making it, There are a lot of talented people there especially the people that can rap on the fly. . But please. I'm sorry, me being a white, middle-income kid growing up in Canada cannot really relate to some dude sputtering words out as fast as he can talking about how big of a pimp he is, and loving his hoe's ghetto booty.
If you meant r&b, I have no problem with it. Gets my girl in the mood. What else can I say.
90's rock was incredible. You can take your racist undertones and shove them up your ass. - Newstedgirl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The oil Company was BP...does anybody know if they censored the the little oil company song they wrote too?
- sinrtb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ya theres 'The New AT&T' 'The Old AT&T' 'The newer but not quite newest AT&T' and a few other AT&T's but if you don't like them you can go with amped.
- GiggleStick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I WOULDN'T MIND IF THEY FILTERED OUT PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS!
- cptshamrock, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Last time i checked AT&T can do whatever they want with the rights they purchased to this concert, including editing it to what they deem appropriate. its Govt. censorship that people need to worry about.
- Sefus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4AT&T can do what they want with their stuff I guess. The fact that this made it on Digg.com is nice enough.
Maybe it was an angry editor or something, but someone removed those lyrics on purpose. No matter which side you are on, it should seem odd. - ucdbunny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2***** AT & T
- Jamfan16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, at least this unfortunate event happened to a band that can hold their own against BS like this.
BTW - My sis and I were both watching the webcast and IMed each other at the same time about how fishy the audio cutout was... who knew... - MSSS, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3THIS IS WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT A FREE, OPEN INTERNET IN CONGRESS AND THE FCC
- Newstedgirl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wish that AT&T would just say they censor the dang thing instead of making excuses, not that this makes censoring right its just owning up to your own decisions.
ps...I worked Lolla...I have several pictures of the PJ crowd from Backstage at http://www.thedeadhub.com - Sefus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm watching the whole video, uncensored, on my iPhone right now. Long live the Jam.
- PerennialTears, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Really? Damn I wish I would have made it to Daft Punk because I heard the same thing about them from another festival. And yeah, McCready kicks ass!
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And pearl jam kicks ass at it. Never seen a better band live.
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1***** yes. you should too.
- CancerBomb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Pearl Jam was pretty good, though the lack of "Jeremy" was disappointing. (I didn't know Mike McCready could play guitar behind his head!) The real winner for me was Daft Punk. I've never listened to their music before, but their live show just blew me away. Similar to your experiences with Pearl Jam, I overheard a number of people saying they were also very impressed with Daft Punk, as was everyone I talked to who saw.
- ReadItAndWeep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So you're a douche bag and a racist. White "boys" in the early 90's made a lot better music compared to what the black boys are making right now. Lets face it, black boys, digital sampling, and the 2000's in combination suck.
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I want to hear the song dammit!
- Randinn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Another pot calling the kettle black...
- theranbrig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the song against the oil company was against bp because they have been dumping mercury into lake michigan...also pj's set at lolla kicked ass
- rheaume, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Probably had to torrent it, then convert it, then upload it to his phone, wow that was so easy it makes me not want to get one
- charli2na, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The BP Amaco song was not censored at all
- knobtwiddler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i jsut wish they'd quit putting those big ugly beige boxes everywhere.. they should bury those damn things or something. its not like i'm not already paying out the nose for my service.. im sure they could afford it. maybe they could use some of their NSA payoff money...
- reaganluver, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1double burn
incinerator - Leviathan777, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dugg up for feeding the spook machine...
- CancerBomb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Their new ***** is pretty weak (aside from "World Wide Suicide" and "Comatose"). "Jeremy" is a classic and one of my favorite songs of theirs. Yes, I'm disappointed that they didn't do it, especially since they do it on a regular basis.
- kaifanun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0We need to wake up. Censorship is becoming more often. Almost every day there is a censorship story here on digg. This is very sad. Personally I don't think its companies like AT&T it is the government pressuring the companies. I can't believe AT&T would gave it to the pressure. Was it the money they got or kickbacks from the government?
- higgs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0There is a whole planet of music out there. Even a white middle income Canadian can "relate" to something like Konono No.1. It would seem that your neighbors are at fault for keeping you awake not 50 cent. You could also try to base your opinion of rap on something more than the one listen of a 2 live crew track that your ears where subjected to back in '93 between having to clean your drool off of Vs or Siamese Dream. As, for being a racist, your correct. I am. But I'd prefer it if you shoved your obviously small CD collection up your own ass. It would appear that it's small enough to fit.
- reaganluver, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Do you ever think before you write this *****? More wonderful music came out in the nineties and sixties than any other period in modern history! Of course, this time none of it was mainstream
- PerennialTears, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1um, how the hell did you do that? Hook it up Yo!
