The thumbnail really ruins the surprise.- LastHand, on 04/19/2008, -4/+1I can has a cube?

The only good Rubik cube is a smashed Rubik cube. - jjustice, on 04/19/2008, -6/+154Aw, thumbnail gave it away. This is one case where I'd say it's OK not to select the thumbnail. But u may disagree with me.
- twertyto, on 04/19/2008, -19/+1?? Gave what away? That's the story. You can't miss it when you opent he page.
- ayeroxor, on 04/19/2008, -2/+2opent? For the love of Christ...
- ligyron, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3I didn't even need to click the link to get the joke to this one. People, take note
- ostracize, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5Sometimes the thumbnail serves as the only mirror
- staffell, on 04/19/2008, -3/+2Let's be honest, that's hardly solving the cube is it?
- shadeOfGrey, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5It's the Bush strategy for solving it. Let's see the terrorists hide in that cube now.
- decyx, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2I knew something was up when I noticed the hammer.
- ayeroxor, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1.
- fuzzybeard, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Buried for using "u" instead of "you".
- twertyto, on 04/19/2008, -19/+1?? Gave what away? That's the story. You can't miss it when you opent he page.
- wynja, on 04/19/2008, -6/+132I found in my youth that pulling the stickers off and rearranging them worked much better. It's called thinking outside the box.
- techresearcher, on 04/19/2008, -2/+6You're not the only one.
- Myztry, on 04/19/2008, -1/+8Really? I thought the Digg number was just how hard someone pressed the button...
- DeskFlyer, on 04/19/2008, -4/+19Damn things don't have stickers now, they paint the plastic. Sucks because now I can't solve them anymore. :(
- TomFrost, on 04/19/2008, -0/+30You can still cheat! Turn one side of the cube 45º so the corners are sticking out. Now press one of the corners up away from the cube as hard as you can. It'll feel like it's breaking, but keep pressing -- it's not. As soon as that corner pops off, the rest of the pieces will loosen up and come apart too. Now you can snap everything back into place, solved!
Note that it IS possible to put the cube back together in an unsolvable position. That's never fun, but can be hilarious when you know someone who can actually solve the things fairly readily.
And as a side note, setting aside an hour or so one night for Google can teach you how to solve them yourself without such methods ;-) It's actually pretty easy when you know how!- consoneo, on 04/19/2008, -0/+26You comment is probably the best comment I have seen on digg in a long time. You address the problem, "cheat to win with painted cube," with a solution, give a helpful hint, and then tell a way to solve the problem without cheating.
Simplicity always works well :) Bravo! - chedabob, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5You could just buy the replacement sticker sets.
- 1randomnumber, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Swapping a cube to make it unsolvable is pure evil. *shakes fist*
Though you can usually figure out one's been switched pretty quickly, as soon as you get to that layer (or whatever other method you're doing) and realize that it can't line up.
- consoneo, on 04/19/2008, -0/+26You comment is probably the best comment I have seen on digg in a long time. You address the problem, "cheat to win with painted cube," with a solution, give a helpful hint, and then tell a way to solve the problem without cheating.

- badmephisto, on 04/19/2008, -14/+5Yes, you are so clever for figuring that out, congratulations. As someone who can solve it in 18 seconds, I cringe every time someone tells me they peeled the stickers off. There is always at least one tard who does it in a group of people.
- ligyron, on 04/19/2008, -5/+2Then why not just re-solve it for them in front of their eyes? After all, it'll only take 18 seconds of your time
- qwerty314, on 04/19/2008, -6/+3I totally agree with you. I, too, can solve the cube (though I'm around 40 seconds average). I hate it when people say they peeled the stickers or broke it apart and put it back together right. When are people going to realize that if they have an ounce of patience, they can learn to ACTUALLY solve it?
- Whaines, on 04/19/2008, -3/+6Could you be any more of an elitist?
- sephiroth965, on 04/19/2008, -2/+3I agree. It really doesn't take long to learn the algorithms. I started just a week or so ago and I can solve it in about 2 minutes. It's just stupid to take the stickers of and put them back on, because you ruin the stickers and it takes a hell of a lot longer than just solving the cube normally. Also, EVERY single time I take a rubik's cube someone tells me they just take the stickers off. It stops being funny really quickly.
edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsQIoPyfQzM- sephiroth965, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1off*, take out*
- wynja, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1I was also only 11 years old, and had very little patiences. Now that I'm an adult I could care less cause I solved it by cheating. I learned a valuable life lesson from that experience too. Cheaters always win.
- brianbb98, on 04/19/2008, -0/+6no, its called thinking outside the cube.
- rodbotic, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- cheekdog, on 04/19/2008, -0/+3i used to rearrange the stickers too until i realized that eventually the sticky wears off. then i figured out how to pull it apart with a spoon and snap it all back together. 25 years later i still can't solve the damn thing!
- dougdiggerton, on 04/19/2008, -5/+1on a scale of 1 to autistic how autistic are you?
- wynja, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1That would be a zero. I'm compulsive. There's a huge difference.
- techresearcher, on 04/19/2008, -2/+6You're not the only one.

- blumer, on 04/19/2008, -2/+33Dude, you must be *really* slow with a hammer.
- oneoverzero, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Thats around where I was when I decided that having a life was more important than breaking 30 seconds.

- SteveHamn, on 04/19/2008, -5/+0hahahaha hilari-not. Better solution is to take the screwdriver and take off one of the side panels and unscrew it, then put it back together. That way it actualy look like you acomplished something. Buried.
- luckyzzkl, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1there are no screws on the rubiks cube :P
- santixar, on 04/19/2008, -3/+1If it was an animated gif it would be completely a 1988 story.
- gtlogic, on 04/19/2008, -6/+1I just peel the stickers off and rearrange. No fuss, No mess.
- rodbotic, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2and no stickers left
- mfratz, on 04/19/2008, -4/+2It doesn't even end with the Rubiks cube being solved...at least add one step showing the cube put back together and solved. What laziness.
- panpizza15, on 04/19/2008, -3/+0Switch the stickers, its the solution to everything.
- BKred, on 04/19/2008, -1/+5Honestly, if you get that frustrated with a Rubik's Cube that quickly, you might want to see a counselor or something about anger management issues...
- IWDA4, on 04/19/2008, -2/+2So he solved it by breaking it into pieces?
- nhammond, on 04/19/2008, -3/+1http://rubikssolver.com/ has really good diagrams that are more elaborate and for real, haha. Funny stuff though
- anononon, on 04/19/2008, -3/+3Don't open the package.
- digitallysick, on 04/19/2008, -1/+5My rubik is in my desk at work, i tried to solve it on my own, without cheating for years and it just hasn't happened. I feel like an idiot for never finishing it.
- Pritchard, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2There's nothing special about Rubik's Cubes though. It's just something most people don't know anything about, whose soul purpose is to impress people or give nerds something fun to do. The math behind the cubes can be fun, but to be honest, it's not challenging enough. Memorizing the "algorithms" can take some time, but that's about it.
- Miamisun, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2Tyson from beauty and the geek (forget which season) on Anderson Cooper trying to explain and show him how to solve the cube blindfolded
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lACH1zHDVTo - Krovvy, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1Actually, you can just take the screwdriver and pop off one of the cubes. Then take it apart and put it together, simple. :R
- r3negadeX, on 08/11/2008, -2/+2I can't imagine what kind of person would actually digg this garbage...but if I ever met one of them I'd be sure to throw a punch square to their face.

- vidorian, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1I was a kid when they first came out i worked on mine for about 10 minutes then realized i could take it apart and put it back together in the right order.
