The glass will bow, but not break. Luckily I've now bouch a much lighter LCD, so no problems anymore.

I don't know if I'd go that far - tempered glass is extremely strong, but only on the flat surfaces. If you hit it even moderatly hard on one of the edges, it will blow apart pretty easily. If the glass is scratched or damaged, it does compromise the entire structure.

Tempered glass is glass that has been annealed for an extended amount of time, this can be for days. Annealing is when you hold the glass at a high temperature, why it's called "tempered". The longer the anneal, the stronger the glass, unless it is mixed with glasses with different COE numbers. The numbers correspond to the expansion contraction rates of the glass and all glass is different. If they are mixed, kaboom! Also, if the temperature of the glass is dropped to rapid after annealing, you can also experience a weakened product. I think somewhere in the factory in China, they didn't do something right....
