- suxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23"The Diggers were a group of sixties radicals and performers whose formula for building a new society was equal parts utopianism and indulgence" - doesn't sound like things have changed much!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Australians consider 'Diggers' those who fought in the trenches in the war. Lest we forget.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16I thought it was just a way to kill time at work.
- Dillinger71, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14The original Diggers were a bit earlier than the 60's though... 1649

feels good to put others down, doesnt it? basic human needs here on digg. - pizzler, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Great quote from the article: "So cynically, you could say that the mainstream can promote cultural rebels like the Beats, but not political rebels like the Diggers."
- wattznext, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Let's not forget Digger Phelps and his amazing Tielighter
- mrgreenjeans, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"...I think young people are telling us that they don't have a lot of hope they can change things. When I see a kid walking around with pins through his nipples and twelve rings through his eyebrows, what it makes me think is that he's in a great deal of pain; that's what he's showing me. They've come up against a culture so monolithic that all they can do anymore is reflect how it feels."
This is so true. (Dang Emos) - ONELOVE23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Mirror? I remember them well. My family lived in the Haight in 66. Cheap rent. Wild times for a 14 year old! Diggers passed out food, helped those on bad trips, did street performance art, etc. Cool guys. If you visit the Haight today bring your own flower to wear, cause of you buy one there it'll cost $10.
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Dude, less espresso.
- keane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5the shambala sun is awesome! it's a great magazine, i need to order a subscription.

- ThePerkins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Buddhism is an intellectual, mind-altering philosophy more so than a faith-based religion. Maybe you should meditate yourself and at least experience it before writing it off as lame. Enlightenment might cure your small-mindedness.
- kenrufo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why is it that people who don't try mediation so often consider it lame, and people who have tried it consider it extremely valuable? Sigh.
An interesting link, spoiled by a rather unfortunate link synopsis. - MaximumPig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3billy bragg wrote a song about the Diggers:

- Dillinger71, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The version by Karan Casey is better :)
Neither of them wrote it though, as it says in your link it was written by Leon Rosselson, in '75.
Fantastic song though :) - KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Forget forgetting, I never even knew.

http://digg.com/tech_news/Who_were_the_Diggers - wholly2b, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I dunno, man, what do you think all the Ron Paul buzz on digg is about? If you're going to say spam then don't bother replying.
- ezstan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Great Digg.
The "lame Buddhist medatation" comment I don't agree with. But that's just me.
I'd take the Buddhist philosophy over faith based crap any day. - MonkeyKing27, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"some lame buddhist meditation site"
outta line man, simply outta line. Still, I'm sure billy graham needs some more bloggers on his site in case you're interested. - borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2You thought wrong!!! A revolution is upon us and we, the United Diggers of America, shall rise up against the tyrannical and hypocritical government to preserve the freedom we deserve!
- LordSlashstab55, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0It's the new commerce!
- gordeaoux, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0you're thinking of http://www.dailykos.com
- wholly2b, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4No, they're people who want a world without Christian fundamentalist crooks running the US government. In exchange for, you know, living under the Constitution.
- Piedramente, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Wow, now THIS is news!
- nullx42, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1WHAT THE ***** DID YOU JUST CALL ME?!?
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -13/+10Digg's diggers aren't radicals or performers, they're teenagers who want society to give them with a world without consequences or price tags. In exchange for using digg.
- Scheissen, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Who cares, they're aussies.
