It's a number (yes, it's hex, but it's a number) It's for HD DVDs.
09 f9 11 02 9d 74 e3 5b d8 41 56 c5 63 56 88 c0 is the number they tried to ban (Inquirer)
"FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE [09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0] DOMMMMMMMMMM!"
It appears that the following set of numbers 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0. Is causing quite a stir. It seems that this set of numbers if the HD-DVD processing key you can use to decrypt and play most HD-DVD movies in Linux.
The simple act of posting this on Digg resulted in over 15,000 diggs and caused the poster to get banned from Digg. Stuff to Think About Blog

HOWTO: Play DVDs on Ubuntu http://ubuntu.org
This HOWTO is guaranteed to work on my system. Your mileage may vary.
Tested on a fresh install of Feisty (Ubuntu 7.04) Beta after installing all updates and rebooting.
I was able to watch a commercial DVD, including navigating the title menu, extra features, and subtitles.
Enable Extra Repositories
The extra repositories were enabled by default in Feisty. If you are using an earlier version of Ubuntu, you may need to enable these repositories.
System -> Administration -> Software Sources
Make sure that Main, Universe, Restricted, and Multiverse are selected, then click on the Close button.
Add the Medibuntu Repositories
The Medibuntu repositories include additional multimedia packages that are not otherwise included with Ubuntu.
First, open a terminal:
Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal
Follow the instructions on the Medibuntu website to add the repositories for your release of Ubuntu:
http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repository.php
The Meat and Vegetables
Open the Synaptic Package Manager:
System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager
Mark the following packages for installation:
libxine-extracodecs
totem-xine
libdvdcss2
Note: installing totem-xine will uninstall totem-gstreamer. This is OK, because totem-gstreamer has its own issues that may yet require years of therapy.
Click on the Apply button.
Note: when the updates are done installing, you may exit Synaptic.
You're done. Enjoy the popcorn.
