- simplenation, on 10/12/2007, -16/+86in Soviet Russia, buses stop you!
- SlipStream89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22is it just odd that some of the bus stops were in the middle of no where?!
- GreenLantern33, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Very creative.
Who is going to be the first to make the joke about "In Soviet Russia...."? - fudgeigor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19So, I was thinking just this but then I realized that most of Russia is the middle of no where.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14hmm, "alicam" and "alistercameron.com"....................
stope spamming us with your ***** website. - uberchaoslord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I, for one, welcome our new pigeon overlords. I would like to remind them as a TV celebrity, I can be helpful in rounding up humans to work in the birdseed factories.
- RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10AWESOME! Half way down the page I won a 42 inch plasma Samsung HDTV!!
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8In Soviet Russia, roads find you!
- boberto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's just an issue of money. Obviously in a communist society there were plenty of funds for social projects such as nice bus stops. Many Germans when asked 20 years after WW2 would say that times were easier when Hitler was in charge. Iron-fisted leaders bring in more money and prestige, I guess.
- CrushThemTorg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Since no one else has tried, lemme see if I can pull of a successful Smirnoff Reversal:
In America, you have bus stops. But in Soviet Russia, bus stops you. - xstnothing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8All Hail the Giant Pidgeon!
- CyrusG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Both Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are former Soviet Union, so that doesn't contradict the article's title or summary (which never mentions Soviet Russia). And in that time, both Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were dominated by Russians, so our /hilarious/ jokes are also accurate.
In Soviet Russia, parade rains on you. - Kitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11they sure kick ass over my bus stop!!
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think I like the hammer and sickle covered bunker the best. There's no way it can NOT be a soviet era bus stop.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6One of these was in a recent Fark photoshop contest:

Possibly more background that you need:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakov_Smirnoff - fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Anyone wondering why all Soviet Russia topics make it seem like Russia was better off when Stalin was around. I mean when you look at it now its abandoned schools or run down bus stops. What the hell?
- digtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3knuttz suckz. ads everywhere!
love the bus stops. Like something out of Planet of the Apes. - docsimmons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Imagine being lost in the middle of nowhere and finding one of these bus stops
- thelastcivilian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice to know that they let horses take the bus.
- wheresmysocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That one caught my eye too. But only because the hammer and sickle template they used kinda looks like it belongs on some Communism 2.0 website.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2theyve transplanted one of them to cental london
http://www.photo-transport.co.uk/buses/vauxhall/ski-slope.jpg - uberchaoslord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hrm they seem to have immortalized James T Kirk on the side of one stop there.
Some cool architecture overall - pretty interesting set of photos. - DJcrayon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some of these bus stops seem to be in the middle of nowhere.
Usually people walk to bus stops to take the bus, but since there is nothing there, who will ever need to get picked up/ take the bus there? - NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Much like in Poland, only bus stops look like bus stops. The situation is changing, but back in the days few people had cars, so bus routes would cover just about every obscure area you'd want to go.
- liquidjamm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3These are not your normal in-city bus stops. These are shots of the transit stops between the cities and towns.
You should smell them... - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I've heard so many different versions of the Soviot Russia jokes, some good some bad. But where did the joke originate?
It took me until the joke became unfunny for me to see the South Park episode with the underpants gnomes' steps to profit. - halosniper7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"handmade-looking"
i cant do that :( - brad77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those photos were taken by Christopher Herwig (http://www.herwigphoto.com/). They originally came from Polar Inertia, I think (http://www.polarinertia.com/jan07/bus01.htm).
Just giving credit where it's due. - ck01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is too funny!
- mattabb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was thinking exactly the same!!
- seajayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the page is gone :^(
- M1THR4ND1R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty cool and innovative actually.. Reminds me of the Paris metro where almost all the stops are different and have some kind of a theme.
- diggenerate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That crazy Russia it's like another country.
- kkDonut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1pictures 5 and 13 actually look fairly modern... very cool
- valorekhov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sorry to rain on everybody's parade, but the depicted bus stops actually originate from Central Asia and not "Soviet Russia". The two likely countries are: Kyrgyzstan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyrgyzstan); Kazakhstan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazakhstan). Granted, these countries were a part of the Soviet Union.
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's what I thought when I saw the pics. Those are Central Asian steppes and architecture. They look pretty run-down and ghetto.
- brad77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can find them here:
http://www.polarinertia.com/jan07/bus01.htm
This is where they came from originally. - bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, art happens.
- jameszhao00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why are they all out in the middle of no where? lol
- RJNavarrete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the one with the stairs leading up to the 'door.'
Lawlz. - shaun944, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3In the 7th pic down, there is a bus stop, but apparently no road.
- mcd9236, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ah, soviet public works projects... Soviet Russia produced some AMAZING art!
- Skab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it all started with horrible comedian yakov shmirnov if thats even how you spell his name. It started i think with either soviet or communist russia i forget, these are much better than his jokes. his were more drawn out, ala in AMERICA men shave back, and SOVIET RUSSIA women shave back. Something like that. But now Yakov spends his time in Branson Missouri, the hick vegas of america. Don't go thier it's literally hell on earth.
- HELLtoupe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is that spock in the mural on one of those?
- pinehurst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Argh. Just another lame ad site (site) hoping to generate revenue by collecting other poeple's work & photos. Stop digging this stuff...
- black296tuuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@thelastcivilian
The horse is not riding the bus. The horse is the bus. - johntwoods, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no wonder they lost the civil war....
- basebaII, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1These are really strange, not the best art I've seen, but it showcases the isolation back in the USSR days.
- dagonweb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The penetrating stench of urine.
