- Civil44, on 02/04/2008, -3/+40I've seen it in person before and have to say its a pretty amazing piece of art.

- Civil44, on 02/04/2008, -2/+14they polish it weekly I believe
- pbaehr, on 02/04/2008, -1/+11Yes, yes it is.
- yournightmare, on 02/04/2008, -0/+9"No public funds were involved; all funding came from private donations (individual and corporate)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_Gate
- Vapor17, on 02/04/2008, -1/+10electrify it
- floridiot2, on 02/04/2008, -1/+10I'm curious, but I just cannot get the strength to click on that at work.
- kaffein, on 02/04/2008, -2/+10Flight of the Navigator?
- Joeymarshmallow, on 02/04/2008, -3/+10the bean
- supremebeing18, on 02/04/2008, -3/+10That is exactly what it is.
- Innisskillin, on 02/04/2008, -5/+11Was the name "Mercury Turd" already taken?
- andrewsp88, on 02/04/2008, -1/+7Silver Surfer took a ***** in the middle of Chicago!!!!
- slimjim85, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5I think the best shots of it are at dusk/night.
http://www.worldofstock.com/slides/AAB1557.jpg - SublimeRuin, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5Civil is right. It is rather awe inspiring once you are standing at it.
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -2/+6first thing i did when i moved to chicago was take a picture with the bean . . . and then the giant faces
- JamesLee007, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4And I thought polishing silverware sucked. I hope they have a huge buffer to shine that bean.
- Waskonator, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Yep, thousands of people have this exact same picture.
All staring up, disoriented. - ClavinJ, on 02/04/2008, -8/+11looks like an upside down bed pan
- SkippyDoorknob, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4How do they keep morons from scratching stuff into it?
- csw3190, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4[At Millennium Park]
This is infinitely better than the goddamn face fountain. I hate that thing...makes me paranoid. - clarkd, on 02/04/2008, -2/+5I hear you there. It makes NYC look like a dump. Although flying over Manhattan makes Chicago look pathetic, but it's probably because you can't see the trash that litters every NYC street.
- LiquidIse, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Isnt it about time OpenGL catches up to the IRL frameworks?
- LogicBomB, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4I bet that thing is fun in the sun.
Imagine driving to work hung over and then you are hit in the face with sun like a bat directly to your brain. - kettlehead, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2YES! I loved that movie!
- wimmers, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2This was voted the #1 strangest jobs in the us...The dude that cleans that thing ALL DAY LONG... Everyone just HAS to touch it and smear fingerprints on it. its pretty cool artwork though.
- AwsmGy, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Everyone that goes there takes the same shot from underneath it.
- martyFREEDOM, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2I like the face fountains better.
- mt4055, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3What is the point of any art? Makes life interesting.
- SteveA, on 02/04/2008, -2/+4I doubted you at first when you said "crazy" but you win
- xeomage, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2No one comes out, the liquid steps come down so David the Navigator can get in and time travel back to 1986.
As a Chicagoan, I really like the chrome bean. - yikiad, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3looks like a giant, chrome kidney bean
- bannus, on 02/04/2008, -2/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_Gate
- thebarry2001, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3oh, the bean. Just classic art in Chicago.
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -0/+2Pretty cool.
- centran, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Stainless steal. Very highly polished. Was a bitch and a half for the workers to polish out the seams.
- dumpling, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3I immediately thought of goatse. God damn you internet.
- metalgel, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2i love living in chicago :D
cept for the uhhh... blizzards. - jj101, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2at least its cool - theres been worse spent money sure...
- rudezombie, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Ah, I love the bean. Cool pictures, but nothing beats seeing it in person.
- yournightmare, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2So THAT'S why it says "The Bean; Chicago, IL; August 2007" after the bottom picture.
- 80hd, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2I've never been there and not seen guards - or oodles of tourists taking millions of pictures
- lightningrod220, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Don't. It's crap right now with all of the snow and the fact that the stupid city didn't try to clear the sidewalks at all after last night's storm. I was heading back from the train station, along the river walk, cursing the city because I was walking through 6 inches of snow and my rolling suitcase wouldn't actually roll. They don't even bother to clear it, but the private businesses don't have a problem clearing it. The amount of taxes I pay should get me better work than this.
/rant - centran, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2I think they count partly on the public as I don't see a lot of security during the day. There are just too many people around and the vandal would be severely beaten by the public.
During the night they do have security patrols and you are not allowed to linger in the park. - piccols8, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2it's a bean.
- centran, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2No.... It's the "Cloud Gate"
but yeah. sorry sculptor Anish Kapoor. We rejected your title. It is now "The Bean" -
