- inio, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35Um, that's Frank Gehry's "Ginger and Fred" in Prauge. He's also responsible for the Guggenheim and the Stata Center at MIT, among many others.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Gehry - bullsfan03, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32Looks more like an earthquake just owned some buildings
- sherifftruman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Great. Where is the house?
- BiteTheHand, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10The second pic is Stata Center at MIT, home of the computer science department (but technically I guess its a house because I live there)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stata_Center - bimtott, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10No. Do you?
- AlrightMister, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14Frank Gehry is the most overrated architect ever. His designs are garbage.
- feckineejit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6He was on the simpsons, the design for the simpsons symphony hall was to build a normal building and then whack it different places with a wrecking ball to get "the signature Frank Gehry look".
- missingeyes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5old news! these designs have been around for years.
- jsmcclellan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Totally agree with AlrightMister. Frank Gehry is a sculptor. He makes crazy sculptures and then has his "assistants" who are the real architects try and make them work. If they don't work, then they just try to get them as close as possible to the wrinkled up piece of paper he left on their desk to work from.
- sirenscout, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's one way of viewing it, but it would be unfair to say that he's not an architect. Prior to designing his house and making the "crazy sculptures," Frank Gehry was what YOU would call an architect, and nobody cared. There's a reason why he has such a popular firm with so many assistants, namely that he's very good at what he does.
- gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You know, animators used to only draw a couple of frames (key frames) per every second or so of animation and assistants would fill in all of the other frames in between, yet the animator is the one who got the credit for the work.
The concept is nothing new, it happens all the time in a number of professions, such as animation (like I just said) and other forms of art. - j1a1g1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Actually you can meet him... in his documentary "Sketches of Frank Gehry"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446784/ - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What the.....
- PatoLucas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I guess crack was cheap when that House was designed
- jmchez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's the way he designed The Simpson's Springfield new Music Hall. I laughed out loud when he was shown doing that.
- LaRockus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey... I have a great idea... lets get ***** faced smashed on a ton of drugs, design a building, eat some Oreo's watch some Voltron, and a... call it a day.
- thephanatik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My dad does.
- Akram, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1First one is in Prague, Czech Republic. It's called the Dancing Man and Woman. Its just a bunch of offices.
- jarbarf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Warning: This has NOTHING to do with Michael Moore or iPhone.
- Pelo1968, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In a documentary on Frank O'Gehry, the mayor of Prague says that he specificaly asked Gerhy not to build another 19th century building, they had enough of those. and he was satisfied with the building.
- ZebZ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Gehry is overrated.
His latest project is designing a new wing to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The only catch is that its under famous front steps with no exterior views... it's completely hidden from the outside world. He said it was a challenge to create something from an interior only. God only knows what kind of impractical unuseable dreck we'll end up with. - ShAd0wS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2heh i was up near the ripley's believe it or not museum about 2 weeks ago, they got a mechanical guy climbing the walls and its pretty cool...
- Mr.Scientist, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4It's in Prague and is also known as "the dancing house" or "Fred and Ginger" (as in Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers).
Frank O. Gehry also designed the Art and Media Center Rhine Haven in Duesseldorf in a similar style:
http://www.fotoausflug.de/en-germany-duesseldorf-media-harbor-gehry-buildings.html - jkleinfeld, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i was there only a few months back.
prague's a great city, i'd really suggest people go visit
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j38/jamie-kleinfeld/DSC00745.jpg - daeus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I saw it 2 weeks ago when I had a stag do there, was in a taxi and was like "hey I've seen that on the net" - I seem to see everything cool on the net these days before I see it in real life - thanks Digg.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, Howard Roark was the rationalist, while he was rebelling against the mere copying of older traditions without coming up with superior traditions. Gehry's buildings are irrational and extremely wasteful.
- arbouler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i hate most frank gehry's works. but then again he did go to my school so i guess i have to be proud regardless
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Frank Gehry's buildings are total *****. I can't for the life of me understand how people who are otherwise rational and want to reduce our environmental waste at the same time like his *****. Seriously, if you told me to make the most resourcefully wasteful, minimally useful building, I'd subcontract Gehry to build it in his "signature" style. Get past the shiny metal, and it's total crap. The guy is a fraud like Picasso. Some of his buildings were causing the sidewalks to be over 120 degrees from the reflective sun, and neighboring apartments had very bright glare. Then another building allowed ice to slip down and fall on the sidewalk, putting pedestrians at risk. I feel like Frank Grimes when people praise Gehry. Christ, look at his "sketches" of buildings. God damnit is the whole world insane? Jackson Pollock is a mental case and Frank Gehry is overrated. Oh, and the emperor is naked.
- drexl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Looks like something Tim Burton would have come up with!
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Speak the good english, you do.Why no one digg your three news because no one speak the good english. Not visit, me not.I seen no questions to your answers.Hello.I like it too.Hello.Spaces after fullstops are not the right answer.Me visit more often and post more news too.Digg me please, I not here very often.Hello.
- danpat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Interesting guy, crap doco.
- danpat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If you're going to post to Digg about "Crazy House Design" do your homework first. Frank Gehry is not some unknown architect. You're just uneducated.
- Darel99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0explain?
- Mr.Scientist, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2People seem to like them though, which is kinda important, don't you think?
- anteyekon4myst, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Frank Gehry is one of my heroes. So yes, I would like to meet him.
- DokGonzo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Um, actually, it's by Vlado Milunić in co-operation with Frank Gehry...
- DeskFlyer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Mr. Tyzik unavailable for comment.
- franklin64, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0yes, much better if you enjoy buildings that look like they were plucked out of a Russian slum... are you serious?
- gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1You forgot the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A. (the one they had to sand down because it reflected light so intensely).
- tempest256, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Actually the bottom photo is a picture of the Ripleys Believe it or Not on Clifton Hill in Niagra Falls, Canada. Coincidentally I was just there for the first time on Monday. That whole street struck me as something straight out of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
- fprintf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Something a bit more reasonable, perhaps, yet still quite architectural & modern? This is one of my favorites: http://www.stevenholl.com/PT186_1C.htm
- bdkvxd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1no.
- mattva01, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I used to live near the top house, it's located in Prague,Czech Republic.
- huiezer, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Looks like a Howard Roark.
- sanj0hn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0So true. And yet, those pics make it to front page every time... Are there so many new diggers ?
Oh and btw, last time there was like 10 pics... now only 3 ? Nothing new here, lets just move on. - 35chililights, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1no you dont. i live there.
