- nmalhot, on 04/26/2008, -10/+79felony on an 8 year old??? the world just get's more stupid day by day :(
- EntropyFan, on 04/26/2008, -1/+42The sad thing is if the teacher had restrained him, the parents could have sued the teacher for 'abusing' the kid.
The system is insane, with no one in clear control.
I wonder what kids are learning from that? - dondara, on 04/26/2008, -5/+43In Florida? What a ***** surprise. I am 44, when I was in grade school, we got in fights on the playground everyday. The teachers would pull us apart, make us shake hands and that was the end of it. So now it's felony charges? The teacher was injured by the 8 yr old? *****. See, this is what you get when you don't discipline your kids. Charge the parents, they are to blame here.
- TheThirdLevel, on 04/26/2008, -8/+42We charge felonies on 8 year olds and taze people just for the hell of it....what is this world coming to?
- HydrogenOxide, on 04/26/2008, -7/+37"If he was overpowering her that much, I feel like she shouldn't be in that line of work," his grandmother, Dorothy Williams, tells the station. "If she can't deal with him, put him in someone else's classroom. If it's a male, whatever, and let them restrain him," she adds.
This pretty much sums up my thoughts - diggit08, on 04/26/2008, -1/+21punched his teacher? What the hell are they putting in those crayons?
- mancat, on 04/26/2008, -2/+21charge nobody, give the kids the paddle.
- gh0st3000, on 04/26/2008, -3/+22So what next, are they going to arrest 2 year olds throwing tantrums for "disturbing the peace"?
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -1/+20I can see it now... 20 years into the future.
Job Interview: We've gone over your resume and although you look like a great candidate and fit for our organization, we do have one concern about this felony conviction over a crayon fiasco. How do you explain your actions? What would you have done differently, knowing what you do today? - keyvoh, on 04/26/2008, -5/+22And yet 3 cops go free after 3 unarmed guys in a vehicle are riddled with 50 bullets.
- therealkdog, on 04/26/2008, -2/+17Let me spank the kid, and we will call it even.
- smacksaw, on 04/26/2008, -4/+18I guess Floridians have never heard of laws governing youth offences...you know...where you don't charge them because they lack the capacity to be tried like an adult...
- Nachoes, on 04/26/2008, -6/+18wtf?!
- Enjia, on 04/26/2008, -1/+13anyone remember the 6 yr old who got sexual harassment for kissing the 5 yr old on the playground?
- Radan, on 04/26/2008, -0/+12How is this even possible? I didn't even know it was possible to press charges against a minor in the US. Here in Sweden, the parents are responsible for their children's actions up until the children reach the age of 15.
- Smoov, on 04/26/2008, -5/+17This sort of evil insanity worries me more than the Iraq war and global warming combined.
Mass insanity is a scary prospect. - RustyJ, on 04/26/2008, -1/+12Man, if they pressed charges for every time I was a little ***** as a child, I'd be on death row by now.
- DigiRaven, on 04/26/2008, -3/+14Correction: The World is getting more stupid day by day.
- rblancarte, on 04/26/2008, -2/+13IMHO this is the wrong attitude. In fact, this is exactly what is wrong with the situation. Clearly this child doesn't have any sort of realistic home guidance. This is the grandmother that is supposed to be teaching values to this child, and what is her response? Not "I am not doing a good job at home" but "let [the teacher] restrain him". *****. This is a problem that needs to be dealt with at home. Sharing, not hitting, etc. Not jobs of the teachers, jobs of the family.
Now granted - felony charges is WAY over the top in this case, but still 8 year olds shouldn't be acting like this. - smacksaw, on 04/26/2008, -3/+13I also agree that somehow the RIAA caused this child's behaviour issues, probably something to do with suing him over sharing crayons.
- cyranthus, on 04/26/2008, -1/+9can the article be any more vague?
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -2/+9Put that scum in for life.
- lazyrussian, on 04/26/2008, -5/+12Police State.
- diggit08, on 04/26/2008, -1/+7wrong topic
- loroleg, on 04/26/2008, -0/+6Correction: The stupid are getting more stupid day by day and everyone else is paying.
- Rainemaker, on 04/26/2008, -3/+9FYI: Here is our (Floridians) law on agg. bat. You decide for yourself if an 8 year old could be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt of this:
784.045 Aggravated battery.--
(1)(a) A person commits aggravated battery who, in committing battery:
1. Intentionally or knowingly causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement; or
2. Uses a deadly weapon.
(b) A person commits aggravated battery if the person who was the victim of the battery was pregnant at the time of the offense and the offender knew or should have known that the victim was pregnant.
(2) Whoever commits aggravated battery shall be guilty of a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. [ยง775 (Sentancing guidelines) would be a non-issue as he is a juvenile, but the criminal elements are the same]
I blame the charges on the arresting officer. The "rule of thumb" used by arresting officers is "Did he hit you with an object? If Yes = Aggrivated. (In most agencies in FL, our law enforcement is only required to have a H/S diploma or GED. This is problematic.) - inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+6Have a seat over there.
- Silentnite85, on 04/26/2008, -0/+6Fine. Europe doesn't have the SAME kind of problems, but don't act like you aren't without your own. I've heard about some crazy ***** going on across the water, and this holier-than-thou attitude towards Americans for some crazy ass stories just doesn't make sense. Yeah we have quite a bit of ***** going on, but the problem is global, not just in America. Maybe if you realize that now, you might have a chance of fixing something in your own neck of the woods. Instead of letting it start the slide we did.
- Danktolker, on 04/26/2008, -3/+9This just in: Florida sucks.
- Gutterpunk, on 04/26/2008, -1/+6Funny how you say that there were fight every day when you were young and this was ok, but now you want to charge the parents. Weren't parents as responsible for the fights 30 something years ago? Or this is a case of "get off my lawn"?
- Puppetfunk, on 04/26/2008, -1/+6*We do not guarantee your child will leave knowing correct grammar.
- s14sh3r, on 04/26/2008, -2/+6That's not a bad idea ;)
- SebHughes, on 04/26/2008, -1/+5This has to be the biggest waste of police time ever.
- jrhelgeson, on 04/26/2008, -9/+13What is stupid is the reaction of the police. This is what happens when kids are not taught to think for themselves in school, then grow up and become police officers.
- Gutterpunk, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4To be charged with something, someone need to place a complaint. And thats not the police usually.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 04/26/2008, -2/+6Um, teacher "restraining the kid" generally winds up with a lawsuit. Teachers can't touch the kids these days for fear of getting sued. Sorry grandma, but the modern world wont allow for that.
- AceTheBathound, on 04/26/2008, -1/+5***** Me! When I was a kid in school here in Canada, when we got out of line like that, we had to face the folks...
Nobody wanted that: That's why we bdhaved like good little dirtbags when we got caught...
No matter if you had an unhappy homelife or not... - DigiRaven, on 04/26/2008, -2/+6got to dig you down on that comment. I'm sorry but its happening all around the world. They kill the kid in the middle east for doing something like that. Singapore they will cane the kid. The UK is becoming the Nanny state over everyone. List goes on. So no its not only in America where stupid and the ignorant lives. It turns out 75% of the worlds population is stupid and ignorant.
- plr4ever, on 04/26/2008, -2/+6Crack
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -1/+5But did you ever hit the teacher? Teachers have to walk a fine line these days. For every lil one charged with assaulting a teacher there is a teacher arrested/sued for assault when they touch the top of a students head.
- jp12380, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Yeah, you just have thugs that beat people to death that is all.
Not to say that I don't think this is ridiculous, it is. He maybe needs discipline at home or councling
ings but not a felony, next thing you know they are going to charge him as an adult. - DigiRaven, on 04/26/2008, -1/+5The kid should have been bitch slapped and have his parents called to take him home. Police was a waste of tax payers money for that stupid call.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Silent, didn't you know that it's "cool" to hate America now?
- LorrKcir, on 04/26/2008, -14/+18Only in america
- dondara, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Maybe a little. Yeah, I retract the "charge the parents" thing. Kids are going to act like kids. To expect anything different is crazy. Mancat is right. Forget the police, just spank the kid and call it over.
- TheMidnight, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Nah, he'll just live at home and pretend to be homeless four blocks away.
- sheki, on 04/27/2008, -0/+3That got a lol from me. Those cops should be ridiculed on their local news and in their daily paper for being dumb asses.
- Gutterpunk, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4yeah, how dare they not hiring teachers without a police/doorman background !
- colincornaby, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3I doubt it will be. He's a minor, so anything he would be charged with would be expunged, even assault and battery or even murder.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4Yeah i hate that *****.
