- radicaldementia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33At least it wasn't a weed whacker, those things ruin lives.
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20He should join up with Paris Hilton. She loves blowing things.
- jdc760, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I hear those things are like a gateway to hardcore stuff like lawn tractors.
- revital9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Leaf blowing should be against the law and labeled as a crime against humanity. Stupidest idea of cleaning ever: Let's move the leafs from point A to point B. Tomorrow we will get them to point A again, and so on. And the noise! Death for leaf blowers!
- The_Dude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I hate all the noisy crap people do around their houses.
- Rfriaz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I'm probably broken: I didn't find the article very funny.
- aserer511, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Like to restaurants and (only sometimes) dinner parties.
haha - Vashinred, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Gold! Thats pretty funny. "Hi I'm [name] and I just can't stop blowing leaves"
"Hi [name]" - blurplevtx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They work great for drying off my motorcycle after washing, seriously though, I don't have a problem, I can quit anytime.
- Badspeller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Reminds me of the guy who lives across the street from me. He has a compulsion of keeping his yard looking nice and will be out 4 times a week with the loudest leaf blower known to man from 6pm to 9pm
- CDoug03, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I suppose it could only be worse if he was addicted to sucking from a vacuum.
- sodade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Agree 100% I used to live in the NorthEast and between 8am-6pm when the weather was good there was a 90% chance that some neighbor would be making some obnoxious noise around their house making the outdoor experience basically suck. I'm so glad I moved to New Mexico...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Makes my crack problem seem normal..
- grav3k33p3r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3errr...."I enjoyed blowing things, even though they weren't leaves "
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3At the top of the list of things I would like to have "univented" would be leaf blowers. They hurt more than they help. They are noisy and polluting and a rake is much, much better.
- Spamiclese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I don't get it.
- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That was insanely creepy. wtf?
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Is that a leaf blower in your pocket or ...
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Electric ones work great and are cheap. It's the 2-stroke gasoline ones that make all the noise and smoke. The only people I see use those are professional landscapers that don't have access to a plug on a lot of jobs.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You might be pushing it a bit too far there. There are good reasons to move leaves.
However, a leaf blower seems like a terrible way to accomplish it. They're $$expensive$$, extremely loud, require much maintnance, and appear quite heavy...but mostly, they seem to be barely more effective than a rake.
As long as the leaves are dry, a really effective and fast way to do it is with a lawn tractor that's got a bagger. It's loud but I've already got it and it's faster than anything else.
You know what else is loud? That ***** on a harley who woke and scared my wife by opening the throttle right in front of our house at half past midnight. Folks, loud pipes don't save lives...you don't hear them until they've _passed_ you! - TubbyCat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2He should have done something great with them.. like make a car powered off them.
- ricksite, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I understand some people probably go overboard with their leaf blowers but they aren't completely unnecessary as some would have you believe. When I used to use a side discharge mower, I would run it over the sidewalk and driveway to shoot the grass clippings back into the yard. With the mulching mower I use now, it just stirs them up. The leaf blower is a quick way to remove the clippings from the concrete. It is very difficult to do with a broom as the clippings stick to the ground. I use a small electric blower and it isn't annoyingly loud.
- ltchimpo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I own a lawn care company and when it comes to making a yard look nice, a leaf blower is essential. Brooms don't get all the dust from pavement, rakes are a waste of time. So yeah, when point A is a yard, and point B is the truck that goes to the dump... yeah, blowers are essential.
- signal15, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Raking my lawn in the fall takes about 2 days with both myself and my fiance working on it. It takes about 3 hours with a leaf blower, by myself.
Also, another great thing about leaf blowers.... they are great at supplying oxygen to firepits. Man, you should see those coals light up when I blow them lightly with that thing. You can't even look at them they get so bright, and people 50 feet away can feel the heat given off. Beer bottles melt completely within about 5 seconds. Oh, they work awesome for sweeping the garage, takes about 10 seconds.
Ok, I'm addicted too, but I'm lazy so I don't get up at 8am and use it. Get a Stihl, they have about twice the flow as any other ones on the market. - Aldhelm, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4That blew me away.
- bubbadoo989, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1This sucks. Shouldn't be on digg.com.
Not very funny at all. - crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1That was a disappointing article. I guess I should stop reading Bill Bryson, my expectations are too high for these kinds of things. :(
- TWillz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Meh - pretty lame. Can I have those two minutes of my life back?
- ArnoldLayne, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1That's a sad excuse for humor. It's certainly not clever.
- reduxion, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0I can't help but quietly replace the word "leaf blower" with "penises" ... this sound very dirty.
hahah, excerpt (with my mod):
I thought [penises] could be used for a lot of things and I wanted to use them for those things. Like recreation. I enjoyed blowing things, even though they weren't leaves and even though some of the things I blew didn't belong to me (like my neighbors lawn furniture, also once their cat, who was OK, not really that hurt, after the doctor patched her up). - reduxion, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0[couldn't edit fast enough, lol]
I have a problem. I think about [wangs] too much. I used to use them too much, when they weren't needed. At all hours of the day. The noise bothered my family and my neighbors.
I carried a [wang] to places that many people didn't understand. Like to restaurants and (only sometimes) dinner parties.

You know you're an addict when...
- forthegift, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1''leaf blowers brought to restaurants". i like that. you don't bring me my meal within 10 minutes and you're blown away. maybe it would work at dr offices, check out lines, at movies against people who talk, etc.
- LoneThistle0, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Waste of ***** time!!! This story blows ***** ass!!! Take this stupid ***** and shove it up your *****.
