- Gwyddyon, on 11/13/2007, -25/+488Uhhhh...how would having a gun prevent this from happening? Planning on shooting the cop that arrests you? Because last time I checked, they usually aren't that crazy about allowing inmates to carry handguns.
- NikoKun, on 11/12/2007, -28/+318Another victim of the drug war...
This war on Marijuana, does far more harm to people, than the drug itself could ever do. Certainly the punishment does far more damage to the individual, than the drug itself does... So why are these prohibition laws allowed to continue? - DeviantDragon, on 11/09/2007, -14/+230Title is wrong, it wasn't just possession. He's in jail for delivering marijuana which I guess is interpreted as trafficking. Doesn't really change the gist of what the article or the submitter is getting at, but I just want to clarify.
- fixedcoma, on 11/12/2007, -64/+232This is the ***** that helps create murderers and seed many more!
- MikeonTV, on 11/09/2007, -22/+163I've heard it's a gateway drug, but never thought this could happen.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -20/+130Nothing you say on this issue can be trusted, as you seem to think owning a gun will keep you out of jail for marijuana possession. Such a stupid, incoherent thought should exclude from any and all discussions.
- NightOwl4, on 11/09/2007, -45/+154marijuana does NOT destroy familes, it being illegal & putting non-violent people in prision destroys familes. marijuana brings people together, too bad more people didn't smoke, this world would be friendly place. i believe alcohol, overuse of prescription meds, infidelity & even MYSPACE destroy more familes & relationships than pot! just like prohibition, there is going to be a crime element when something is illegal. REALIZE & LEGALIZE! we're spending millions (5 million on operation alesia) on a senseless war, kind of like Iraq! you cant overdose on pot, alcohol & tabacco are both legal, yet they kill thousands every year! not 1 death has been linked to the use of marijuana. read the facts & maybe TRY IT before you criticize it!
IM DONE - whatthefu, on 11/09/2007, -8/+105Submitter, I'm pretty sure it's a better idea to copy and paste a paragraph from the article instead of adding your opinion to the description.
- Hetman, on 11/11/2007, -27/+121Sweet and if everyone thought like that we would still have slavery, segregation, no women's rights, monopolies and still be a part of the British empire. Seriously that is the lamest excuse ever.
- MattL920, on 11/09/2007, -4/+81Is Raped@Jail like a less successful version of Folding@Home?
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -35/+99Am I the only one who gets chills and/or nervous whenever I see a cop, anywhere? All because me as a dumb 15 year old got arrested for having maybe a gram of weed on me, living in fear sucks.
- DiggzDE, on 11/09/2007, -1/+64Where he would only get raped by pre-approved violent inmates.
- RetlawST, on 11/09/2007, -5/+67Guys, they've been saying this for years! MJ is a gateway to worse things. First you're gonna try a little bud, next thing you know you're getting raped.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -8/+70So the problem is marijuana laws and not the fact that we as a society condone and allow rape in prisons. Because rape is okay if you're behind bars.
- slashbot, on 11/09/2007, -11/+69Makes you want to buy a gun? wtf?
Even if you owned one..... you won't be having your gun in jail. This wouldn't have helped you.... - Jargonaut06, on 11/09/2007, -10/+65no, most people are nervous around cops.
- offspring06, on 11/09/2007, -10/+64A gateway to ass rape.
- TritonX, on 11/12/2007, -6/+56$$$
- sqwirl, on 11/09/2007, -13/+59Yeah, we should all forfeit our free will for the sake of not going to jail over unjust laws.
/sarcasm - 1jaxstate1, on 11/09/2007, -17/+61Well, I guess the jail sentence did it's job. I bet he'll think twice about having weed. Just kidding, it's crazy to be put in jail with violent criminals for having weed.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -16/+59you're right/smart to be nervous. cops are the most dangerous
and unpredictable people walking the streets, and they've got guns AND power.
a friend told me a long time ago that the police are the enemy
and damn if he hasn't been proven right over and over and..... - StudsTurkel, on 11/09/2007, -10/+51It would help him get into a more secure prison. Drugs + weapons is far more serious than a baggie of weed.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -4/+42Well considering you can't bring your gun to jail with you I really don't see the purpose of your comment in the title.
Furthermore, I doubt being raped in jail makes people decide to murder other people (with the exception of your rapist).
While it's sad when anyone gets raped I still have to wonder why the same people saddened and disgusted by this are the ones screaming to send other people to PMITA Prison all the time.
Here is an idea for those of you that think it is wrong to send people to jail for using/distributing marijuana. Talk to your congressman, other local politicians, etc.
Don't be so smug that you think just because you THINK it should be legal that it is. It is currently illegal. While I, myself, disagree with that I also do not use marijuana. It's no different than DUI. I drink. I also know that driving drunk is a crime so I don't do it.
As it currently stands, using, selling, transporting marijuana is a crime. Don't do it if you are not willing to pay the price if you get caught. In the meantime get the laws changed if you feel they should be changed. - Shorties, on 11/09/2007, -7/+44Well maybe next election we might have a candidate with the balls to end this war on americans.
- irvman21, on 11/11/2007, -104/+139This is why you don't break a law that can get you sent to jail, even if you think the law is stupid.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -6/+39It's "for the children". We have allowed the federal government to get out of control. It's time to reel it back in.
- mrvalue, on 11/09/2007, -0/+33I would assume fixedcoma, who both left the first comment and more importantly posted the story with a description including the line, "This disgusts me utterly and kind of makes me want to buy a gun so it doesn't happen to me."
- Chestnut3499, on 11/09/2007, -4/+36"Only outlaws are nervous around cops."
I contend this point. I personally spent six years in Texas prison for a crime that I not only didn't commit, but didn't even know had been committed until I was arrested for it months later. Regular law-abiding people have a lot of reasons to feel nervous when around cops. Cops frequently abuse their power. Innocent people frequently go to jail. These are both facts in the U.S. in 2007.
We should be quoting the constitution in cops faces and even more so into the faces of our elected "representatives".
Even though I came out of prison with a lot less emotional scarring than many I met, this false conviction will still have ramifications for me for the rest of my life. - HappyScrappy, on 11/09/2007, -15/+47for "delivering MJ, a felony offense"
He wasn't put in there for possession. Buried as inaccurate. - rsklnkv, on 11/11/2007, -3/+34As if rape in prison should be a given if you go to jail...On one hand you justify the system by implying that if you do the crime you should expect to do the time. Being raped is not part of the punishment society generally sanctions as part of the punishment, right? If this man were killed in prison would this be, according to you logic, because he broke the law by possessing pot and therefore punishment was just? Would it be fair if you were put in jail overnight for some minor offense (maybe you are innocent) and you were raped overnight? I'd certainly never wish this on anyone, but I have to wonder if you're opinion of the system would be influenced by something like this that happened to you. Maybe you think it could never happen to you...
How you can support the system and it's failure in the same sentence is quite amazing.
This man was sentenced to jail, not rape. - plncrzy, on 11/09/2007, -6/+36The dirty cop who arrested you for..... illegally having drugs?
The bastard. Hide your drugs better, maybe. - swoopdog, on 11/09/2007, -1/+30Thank you for this. Honestly its tough to explain about classism in this society and how it is linked to crime and when the rich steal from all of us we just send them to white collar resort prison not federal pound me in the ass prison.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -7/+36"Only outlaws are nervous around cops"??? *****. They carry guns and most of them are outlaws themselves. You'd be wise to be nervous around them. A uniform and a badge does not guarantee a level head. I've never taken a swing or been disrespectful to the police, but I've met plenty who are perfect *****.
- heartcoldfusion, on 11/09/2007, -4/+33CAPTAIN OBVIOUS TO THE RESCUE!!!!
- Sle3per, on 11/09/2007, -6/+34To cops, everyone around them is an outlaw and a potential source of revenue.
- Rockout, on 11/10/2007, -1/+29Bad choice of words... sounds like you want to legalize what his cell mate did to him.
- diggSJaustin, on 11/09/2007, -2/+30And to think some people think smoking marijuana causes paranoia.
- cyberwiz01, on 11/09/2007, -3/+31You're assuming Cops always obey the rules but sometimes they don't. That's when it's important to know your rights and not just accept everything the cop has to say as law.
- dcmjzero, on 11/14/2007, -10/+36Ron Paul?
- slamtv7, on 11/09/2007, -4/+28Dude.. you didn't get the joke did you -.-
- WiseWeasel, on 11/10/2007, -0/+21Maybe he'd rather die in a gunfight with law enforcement than get sodomized in prison? I dunno, didn't seem to make much sense to me either...
- rokinroj, on 11/09/2007, -7/+27This just in....
Prison sucks! - soomprimal, on 11/09/2007, -3/+23The drug war causes overcrowded prisons by crowding them with offenders who have no good reason for being there in the first place.
- airforceteacher, on 11/09/2007, -6/+26But the "system" should be doing a heckuva lot more to prevent prison rape. It's a damning statement on our society that we see this happening and turn a blind eye, or even make jokes about it. Some rehabilitation it turned out to be for this kid.
- sqwirl, on 11/09/2007, -4/+24Thanks for dictating our lives for us. We really needed that. Free will is overrated.
/idiocy - inactive, on 11/09/2007, -7/+27***** that. The only way to get rid of "stupid" laws is to fight against them outright.
It's called Civil Disobedience.
Rosa Parks, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela.... would you have had them tuck tail and obey the laws they did not agree with?
Grow a backbone and defend what you believe, not what you are told to believe.... - cyberoptic, on 11/09/2007, -36/+56you know i found this great way to avoid getting arrested for possession, STOP SMOKING WEED
- louiedog, on 11/09/2007, -4/+23Good idea, then you can go to jail for the rest of your life and get raped once a week until it ends.
