    of course LA isnt that close to the observatory, it is about 6 miles I think.

    It is just zoomed in making it look as if they are closer than they really are, they also use this techique in movies during action scenes(like someone running form a explosion) to make it look like the actor is much closer to danger than he really is.
  • Niacin, on 07/20/2009, -8/+19Optical illusion much? They're actually something like 1000 feet apart on the diagonal. The angle from the camera lens to the planes and their size disparity are what cause it to look as though they're going to crash.
