- Akaji, on 10/26/2007, -4/+50"Oh, what a terrible thing is wrought by organized religion." If by "organized religion" you mean "an inbred family of retards that started a 'church' in the sense that satanists have a 'church'", then yes.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+47Fred Phelps is such a scumbag,
- spinchange, on 10/28/2007, -1/+44The Church (read: 75 person Fanatical Fringe Cult) is the organization actually organizing theses demonstrations. They're totally insane. See the sign in the FA. They have their kids actually hold signs up that say stuff like "Thank God for Dead Troops" and "Thank God for 9/11" out side of funerals and churches were soldiers are being laid to rest. Why? Becuase in their words "God Hates Fags" (!?!?) They're totally senseless and insane. It's not a normal denominational church by any definition.
- ReligionOfPeace, on 10/27/2007, -14/+54Oh, what a terrible thing is wrought by organized religion. Fanatical fundies of any stripe should not be tolerated in any society.
They should all be exiled to a place far away where no need here their insane utterings. - aliengoods, on 10/25/2007, -0/+31The sign said "Thank God for dead soldiers"!
How is it that people who protest the war get more ***** than those *****? - jstepno, on 10/26/2007, -3/+30Whats wrong with being gay?
- tomokatsu, on 10/26/2007, -1/+26Even though I am not particularly religious, I will say that these people are not a "church" calling them so is only lending far more dignity to their "cause" than is justified. They are nothing more than glorified psychopaths who brainwash their children with hateful beliefs. (all in the name of God, of course)
Don't use then to characterize religions (including Christianity.) - Pebbles329, on 10/25/2007, -2/+26it seems the church promotes the protests to "spread it's message". it's pretty disgusting.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/28/2007, -0/+22There is a fine line between a church and a cult.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/26/2007, -3/+25nothing, and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
- sazai, on 10/25/2007, -0/+21It's about damn time.
- doshindude, on 10/30/2007, -2/+21To be honest, I as a Catholic am disgusted by what they did.
This action that that church committed was horrible, yes, but it SHOULD NOT be used to stereotype all of Christianity, so I'd be much obliged if everyone just STFU when it comes to slurs like that. - CaptainNoPants, on 10/27/2007, -1/+18These people are more than likely in-breeders. They are, each and every one of them, completely sick. Paying them no attention is the best way to go.
- zyklon, on 10/25/2007, -0/+17Westboro Baptist Church = Filthy.
I'm glad they're finally getting sued. The only lawyer that they could hire is Shirley Phelps herself, and she's the famous psychotic that showed how insane the church is nationally on Hannity and Combs and the Tyra Banks show. There's not a chance in the world this will go over well for them. - dreagen, on 10/25/2007, -3/+20Love the Sinner not the Sin.
- imightbewrong, on 10/28/2007, -3/+19these people are the Christian equivalent of suicide bombers on crowded buses. stupid. and literally one in million
- matthewdestroys, on 10/25/2007, -0/+16I live in Kansas... some friends and I are going to throw the biggest party when Fred Phelps dies. Everyone is invited!
- BinaryFragger, on 10/28/2007, -0/+16They certainly tarnish the reputation of Christians, just like how Islamic extremists make Muslims look bad.
I hope people remember that these 75 bigots don't represent Christianity in general. Real Christians don't go on hate-filled crusades, just like how real Muslims don't fly 767s into skyscrapers. - romistrub, on 10/25/2007, -0/+16Aren't there any good assassins in your country anymore? ;)
- SOS84, on 10/27/2007, -0/+16Unfortunately, even freedom of speech (and religion) applies to these fools.
- notthemama, on 10/25/2007, -0/+15I wonder how they'd feel if someone were to protest their protests, or funerals of their members, with signs such as "Thank God for Dead Westminster Baptists" or "God Hates Westminster Baptists".
- Buelldozer, on 10/30/2007, -7/+21Phelps group isn't "Christianity" in any modern sense of the word.
- stealthrocket, on 10/25/2007, -0/+14I don't even understand the basis of their protest. They protest soldiers' funerals because of gays in the military? Am I missing something here, where is the connection?
- aspec, on 10/25/2007, -3/+16Religion.
- norman619, on 10/25/2007, -7/+20Organized religion all too often means organized stupidity.
- nestcrw, on 10/25/2007, -0/+13I was hoping to add something with "ignorance" and "cult" and "they suck," but I believe that you guys have covered it.
- iFungus, on 10/26/2007, -7/+19You have a strange definition of fact.
- gomezfreak, on 10/26/2007, -1/+12Yeah it just burns you up to see an atheist who lives a more moral life than a christian.
- nblsavage, on 10/25/2007, -3/+14how are the wingnuts talking about "islamofacists" any different? Personally, I think anyone who believes in a benevolent sky-god has rocks in their head but I'm certainly not going to say one is worse than the other.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -2/+13@betterth: What the hell is organized Atheism? Please enlighten me?
Atheism is a statement about one specific lack of belief in a deity, nothing more. It does not state anything on anyone else's philosophical or moral underpinnings. You can be a Atheist Buddhist or Atheist Rastafarian.
@norman: Your "agnosticism" is *****. Agnosticism is a statement about knowledge, not believe. Unless you can state that you believe in a God, you are an Agnostic Atheist. If you don't want the label of atheist fine but you're just being a dick to think that because you don't want that label that it makes you better. - zyklon, on 10/25/2007, -0/+10Those guys are definitely the direct opposite of the church. Simply thinking about them make me smile. I may not be very patriotic, but they make me love being American.
- phoofy, on 10/25/2007, -0/+10Free speech or not, what an utterly disrespectful way to send your message.
I wonder if any of these protesters were ever in harms way, would they deny the help of anyone who happens to be gay? - Eivo, on 10/25/2007, -1/+11As much as I hate the WBC and their insane and hateful views, I am not willing to see the laws bent or ignored. From what I gathered in the article, they did everything legally (but if they didn't, take every penny those ***** have). Just because their message sucks doesn't mean you can sue them. If that was the case, I doubt FOX News would still be in business. I feel sorry that the plaintiff had to deal with such retarded cow *****, but the law if there to protect everyone, even the WBC. Just my 2 cents.
*prepares for massive bury* - inactive, on 10/25/2007, -6/+16I wonder why they don't all just go off to heaven tomorrow if it's such a wonderful place to be and they really do believe it exists. Imbeciles.
- unorginalityftw, on 10/25/2007, -0/+9I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure people are dying because of bullets and explosives. Could be mistaken in the cause of death there.
- sfanetti, on 10/29/2007, -1/+10Sorry - your arguments are about 500 years too late to be relevant. Please try Googling The general Theory of Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, String Theory, etc. I know you might just think these things are "theories" but to Science, a theory is an exceedingly accurate model of a physical phenomena based on EVIDENCE. Scientists don't just image there is a magical man helping two opposite poles of a magnet attract. Science explains the actions of the photons exchanged in the electromagnetic fields of both magnets to incredibly exquisite detail. None of this is just based on random guess work - it is all based on observation, logic, experimentation and evidence.
The more we look at the world - the more we understand about the random, cruel, and extremely bizarre processes of nature - the more we understand that a magical external entity is just something tacked in to cover over ignorance. There is no need for a magic man and more than there is a need for a magical sky god that rides across the sky every day on a fiery chariot. Can you not see that your belief is just based on fantasy and irrational garbage your community fed to you since before you had the mental capacity to reason?
Do you actually HAVE the mental capacity to reason?! - RogaDanar, on 10/25/2007, -0/+9It would get them more attention. They would love it.
- raitchison, on 10/25/2007, -1/+9No as much as we detest people like the WBC, the KKK and the so-called "Truthers" we cannot, as a society stop them from being the ***** they are.
BTW I hope they get their racist homophobic assses handed to them in this civil case. - inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+9I disagree on this. The Westboro Church has every right to this obscene protests and their free speech.
Since they are lawyers, they have yet to call for violence which is illegal. Everything they've done is within the bounds of the law. We may not like what they're saying but they have the right to say it. - inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Wasn't that what I stated?
- Akaji, on 10/26/2007, -1/+9Because they won't be going 'up' when they die...
- rugrat54, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8They're in all the other countries right now.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/25/2007, -4/+11If I ever get diagnosed with a terminal illness, I'm gonna go on a mass killing spree of the Westboro Baptist "Church"
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+9And YOU are ignoring the Old Testament. There's more to Bible than God's Love you know. Ignoring all the genocide?
- quaxon, on 10/25/2007, -1/+8Yea honor societies and organizations dedicated to pushing the limits of technology, science (X prize foundation for one), and orgs. that send teachers to third world countries, etc. are "organized stupidity" correct? If that is stupidity in your detached world then i don't want to be smart. Organized religion works hand in hand with government to control the masses, and has done more damage to humanity than all other forms of organization combined. The problem is with the latter it's with religion.
"Oh as we've already seen, Hillary and Co are bought and paid for already. It doesn't matter what you believe in, todays world is ***** up by men, not by their beliefs in god."
Yes it does, the majority of americans wont vote for someone who doesnt wear their religion on their sleeve. Like i said before, religion is used by the powerful to control the masses - MrMischiefVIP, on 10/25/2007, -0/+7That is not what the Patriot Guard Riders do at all. Revving a V-twin would be much worse then the protesters. See the picture in the FA? Look in the background and you will see the Patriot Guard Riders doing their thing, without their motorcycles. The Riders just try to form a wall around the Westboro Baptists to block them from the funeral.
- gmiley, on 10/27/2007, -0/+7No he's insulting your hypocrisy. "Real Christians" do not condemn people to hell, they show pity and try to help people see the error of their ways.
- Elranzer, on 10/25/2007, -1/+8These people belong in an insane asylum, looked at through a very small window for the rest of their lives. Also, notice how they're all lawyers, "non-practicing" ones at that. They do these things on purpose to promote getting attacked, so they can then sue attackers and such for money. It all comes down to money. Fred Phelps doesn't give two ***** about Jesus or homosexuality.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/31/2007, -6/+12If he god is real and jesus is son of god.....prove it. And don't tell me they are real cause it says it in a book.
- graemee, on 10/25/2007, -0/+6Yep, you got it. That's about it. You just missed the crazy.
