- mourningdove, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12As a Christian raised in a fundamentalist background, I'd really like to apologize. Not all of us are like that, and some are actively trying to stop those people from doing more harm. It's so insane to say, "this world is not my home, so I'll just trash it as I'm passing through." It gives God and Christianity a bad name and makes life harder for everyone else. So on behalf of all the fundamentalists that may never pull their heads out of their Bibles long enough to see what's happening- I'm sorry. I'll try to change what I can.
- othersomethings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I don't feel so much the need to apologize as to simply be as active as I can in proving the rule and not the exception.
I've noticed that If I make a comment on here that indicates any kind of Christian view I inevitably get dugg down, and I can only assume it's on principle because it's certainly not based on the content of the comment itself.
I'm not leaving though. Even the most intelligent Christians (especially leaders) tend to get their knickers in a knot and cry "persecution" if someone disagrees with them. Outside of religion, only idiots feel persecuted when faced with mere disagreement. I don't know why religious leaders choose to portray themselves as these idiots, and yet they do again and again. I'm no leader, but I can do something. Even if it's making a few comments on digg...a site I'd be at everyday anyway.
As a friend of mine used to say..."With out Fun you're just a damentalist." - populist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11i don't think you need to apologize, but do understand. i hope that most people realize that these types are really just fringe groups - and don't represent the religion as a whole.
- populist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Josh - an interesting point there. I think history has made it quite clear that people in power have often times used religion to ensure a subservient population...
sorry about putting this reply in the wrong place! - UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9no, appleann, I worry more about the enemy that lives among us than I do about the enemy that lives across an ocean.
- RossEwidge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8As opposed to the "right" ones? Ah, the joy of being a nearsighted, reactionary, thoroughly despicable conservitard.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Whether or not most Christians are like this is not the issue. The issue is that many of the religious leaders are like this and they promote extremism within their congregations.
Fundamentalists are usually idiots because, fundamentally, everything they stand for, usually, goes against all the precepts of their religion. - UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5No, unlike most religious sects, I feel no need to kill all my enemies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm conflicted, though, because it *is* in our best interest to keep these people as ignorant and deluded as possible. Just have to work on the relegation part.
- unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed!
For Democracy shall not perish, but Authoritarian Fascism and radical extremist MUST! - jetsetgo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@TheCo1onel
A Christian doesn't have the right to say what they believe about God. It's a responsibility. In fact, everyone who can think for themselves has it. - UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2^^^One of the best Digg comments I have ever read. You should have abused the system and first comment replied with that one!
- poornbroken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you don't need a religious sect to want to kill all your enemies. ask polpot, idi amin, stalin etc. all you need is an intent, time, and place.
as much as the religions seem to be wanting blood... it was christian peoples that tried to regulate the conduct of war.
religous groups are as prone to violence as non-religious groups... but religious groups usually believe in the after life, and that there are consequences for the things they do. - dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I noticed the _2 in the url and found http://www.digg.com/world_news/Christian_Fascism , posted only 8 days ago. It's an entirely different article though. These articles are becoming more common.

Fundamentalism and totalitarianism are not really fascism, but that doesn't make me feel any safer. - SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2the enemy that lives among us
so are you ready to kill the believers? - poornbroken, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4yeah.. i'm sure chrisitian/buddhist/hindi/jewish/amish fundementalist will send planes into buildings, bomb u.s. embassies, refer to non-believers as "pigs" or "dogs" and threaten non-believers, advocate the overthrow of the u.s. government...
or will they? - appleann1, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5Aren't you people worrying about the wrong fundamentalist?
