- DragonGirl724, on 10/11/2007, -3/+44first cats..now cardboard...
whats next? cardboard cats...? - gopher043, on 10/11/2007, -2/+42"Most people can't. It fools the average person," the maker says. "I don't eat them myself."
Of course he doesn't eat them. He just softened up that cardboard with caustic chemicals. - gamer31, on 10/11/2007, -4/+306 to 4, or 3 to 2 if you like simplifying things
- Obligation, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Not that you shouldn't pay attention to what you're eating, but, unless you order your Chinese food from street vendors in Beijing, I think you'll be ok.
- str3ama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18There's very little meat in these Gym Mats.
- CuriousDonkey, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21So much for cat being the main ingredient in Chinese food...
Hideous. - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+16MMmmmm....apple cores and Chinese newspapers....
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Looks good cant wait for them to deep fry it.
- phatphil, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I nominate dema for math star.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Recycled bun??
- anachronaut, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Places in the US like Little Caesar's and Dominoes has been making their pizza dough out of cardboard for years. What's the big deal?
- yzhang3, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Well, at least it may help curtail the population growth. disclaimer: I am actually Chinese, and I do not approve of these actions. Ultracapitalism as it is right now in China is going to destroy everything.
- Y0tsuya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Just eat your candy without unwrapping it.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I like to call it uncontrolled capitalism.
- incubowski, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12I always told me friends who were weary of eating Chinese food not to worry what was in it and just eat it. I am going to have to rethink that strategy.
- 5Twelve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Mmmmm Hmmmmm getting hungry just thinking about it. All it needs is some soy sauce.
- cardyology, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6dema, you have to be THE most stupid digg user I have ever encountered.
- chopenik, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I'm so not giving up my General Tso's Chicken. I'd rather live in denial.
- orlyfactor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5meat tastes good. why the hell would i want to be vegan?
- valehru, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6ummm....I live there. I was wondering why my stomach has been so screwed this week. Oh well, at least we still have cheap DVDs.
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Yes i would much prefer to eat a disease bird to one that has been given antibiotics.
- KhanneaSuntzu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Behold the face of the future, if oil runs out.
No more cheap food = all kinds of bastards cutting corners to make a quick buck. - Tearlock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4This is worse than that American company that upped the fiber content in its bread by adding sawdust. Remember that movie "Soilent Green"? I just wonder when those reports start coming out. Remember these people often live in their workplaces, they probably die there too.
- Wonderkind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"Of course he doesn't eat them. He just softened up that cardboard with caustic chemicals."
About four years ago I met a man who grows chickens for Tyson's, according to their feeding plan.
He flatly stated he would not eat that chicken. They're fed chemicals and growth hormones. - voidvector, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The original Chinese TV report (in Chinese of course):
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4527072429462215530&q=%E7%BA%B8+%E5%8C%85%E5%AD%90&total=3&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1 - kasama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4As long as the cardboard is non toxic I don't see the problem. Might even help the overweight, as there is less energy in it, while still giving the filling sensation.
- jm1234567890, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4msg makes it taste good : )
- Y0tsuya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's obvious the Chinese don't want to eat cardboard baozi either. That's why the police shut down the factory. You're saying like it's a good thing.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_hydroxide#Food_preparation
"Industrial chemical" is such a sensationalist term. Caustic soda is used in food preparation in many places around the world, and the results are delicious. - orlyfactor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3But you get your daily amount of fiber in one dumpling!
- HPSauce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'll have you know that cardboard tastes great with a bit of Caesar dressing.
- darkstar949, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3About the only thing that I can think of as truly American food in reference to the United States would be Southern cooking and perhaps New Orlands style cooking. For the most part all of our recipes are imported from other cultures.
- MBHoy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3McDonalds does Chinese now?
- profOblivion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This piece of news is actually from the Associated Press, and if you RTFA, you'll find that the story originally aired on Chinese state television. I don't like CNN either, but get your facts straight.
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3dihydrogen monoxide is the worst, and it's unbelievable how many supposedly 'healthy' foods it's in.
If you're looking for more info here's a good place to start: http://www.dhmo.org/ - cyberdork, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Isn't it funny how Americans complain about Chinese food like we Europeans complain about American food?
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I just can't believe the whole time they were right.
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Worse! It's toilet paper!
- tomjunlee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2China had the Health Inspector too. Except that he was beheaded for massive corruption scandals recently.
- rebopper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Unless you are 5 years old, that is really sad.
- positron, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Nobody is *making* them eat it. It's not like they are being strapped down and force-fed cardboard (note: this sentence applies to the customers, not prisoners of the Chinese government). Ideally the consumers have access to information about what is in the food and have made an informed choice.
- nwoantibody, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If Chinese folks who eat those bread buns quite often couldn't tell the difference and actually enjoy them... then a foreign devil such as myself is condemned to find that cardboard ***** delicious...
- edzilla, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4By making chinese eat cardboard to reduce costs?
- Kilik123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2are you stupid or are you ignorant? the article says "Countless small, often illegally run operations exist across China and make money cutting corners by using inexpensive ingredients or unsavory substitutes. They are almost impossible to regulate." don't go generalizing all chinese foods as that crap. ever thought of what was in American fast food?
- Wonderkind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty sure it isn't cats or cardboard, but does anyone really know what goes into chicken nuggets?
- LeeSoong, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes, and they made a ''Mashed Potatoes'' sewage machine too...
1. Raw Sewage
2. Large Processing Machine with treatment, additives, and cooking...
3. Output: looks like and tastes like mashed potatoes.
Not targeted for human consumption - to be used as animal feed. - Wonderkind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2After reading a few books on the topic, my wife and I are gradually switching to organic.
Somehow, despite what claims are made, I don't like the idea of eating sulfur dioxide, a common food color preservative. - LeeSoong, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I prefer the 5n5 recipe:
50 percent cardboard
50 percent horse.
To become vegan:
Watch HOT DOGS get made from start (slaughterhouse) to finish (packaging & shipping in trucks). YUM! - astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Talk about bio-recycling... just don't order the "Poo-Poo" platter because now we know whats in it.
