Chicago cougar's final resting place: The Field Museum

chicagotribune.com — The final resting place of the cougar shot last week in Roscoe Village may be far from his home, but at least he will be among relatives. A cousin found in 1961 in Surinam. A puma from Peru, 1955. And the skin of a Florida panther from 1895, cataloged by legendary zoologist Charles B. Cory.

  • inactive, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2I'm still not sure why they had to shot the animal. It doesn't seem completely unreasonable to bring it back to its natural habitat.

  • lschofield, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1I think its natural habitat was probably unsafe as it was apparently comfortable in the city. I don't know if it would be inhumane to have contained it in a zoo. I would have ordered for tranquillizers rather than bullets had I been in charge, and at least had a little while to make a decision without killing the thing.
