- CapEnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36This is sad, this man done a wonderful job to make the infancy of millions around the globe more happy, for then grow as better and more health adults.
Thanks Joe for so many years of sweet dreams.
Rest in peace, we will miss you. - 1021, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17This truly fits the use of the phrase "The End of an Era." If only I could count how many times I saw Barbera splashed in front of my eyes after a cartoon!
- BigKitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I was a regular watcher of Yogi Bear and other Hanna-Barbera cartoons during my childhood, so I know how you feel. Joe will be missed.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'm glad he lived to see his work respected as a classic and invaluable contribution to the world of entertainment.
My advice? As a tribute, go buy your kid or nephew or whatever a nice boxed set of Tom & Jerry cartoons. They're still as good as you remember them, and it's important to pass these things on to the new generation. - Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Zoiks :(
- daleksarewimps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9oh man. Joe Barbera and Bill Hanna created half my childhood.
rest in peace, to the both of them.
:( - dagooh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I still watch Tom and Jerry everyday before going to sleep (I work nights and T&J starts at 7AM here in Argentina) the original run directed by Hanna and Barbera is the best and it just doesn't age, I still laugh like a little kid every time Tom steps on a rake, gets hit by Spike or anything that happens on those episodes, they're just fun and so well animated and directed that you can't help but have a good time watching them.
Joe and Bill will be missed, thank you for so many good times. - NV0U, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sorry to hear this. I was, and still am, a big fan of this stuff. I still crack up every time I think about "Calling all cars... calling all cars... be on the look out for a large, male go-rilla."
- cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4:( Seems all my childhood heroes are passing away lately. To brighten up things for fellow diggers, anyone remember "The HairBear Bunch" ? :)
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I watched all his cartoons here in India too. The good old days of Cartoon Network, when no ads aired and TNT took over at night. You'll be missed, Mr. Barbera.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I suddenly want to watch Boomerang
Damn, why isn't it on more cable networks! - kettlechips, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Jabberjaw especially.
- Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Holy crap...he was still alive.
I thought all the good guys were long gone.
RIP man
Exit stage left..err UP....... - kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3R.I.P.
Had many a day watching such great cartoons. - Atom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I grew up on his artwork and I'll make sure my children do too. He will be missed.
- supersirj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. Tom & Jerry was the funniest cartoon on television and still is. I still watch when it comes on on Cartoon Network. RIP Joe Barbera :(
- GameNasty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hanna-Barbera cartoons were my favorite as a kid, Captain Caveman, Space Ghost, and the Flintstones...
As I'm reminiscing it's hard for me to remember a cartoon that was not a Hanna-Barbera cartoon
Even Charlotte's web was produced by Hanna-Barbera
here's a link to all their toons

Goodbye Joe - DeltaX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Quick Draw McGraw was one of my favs.
- joshuastarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I remember getting up early every Saturday morning to watch cartoons, most of which were Hanna Barbera productions. Joe will certainly be missed, my childhood is officially over at the age of 26.
- gmprunner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1T'is a shame....
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@devindotcom
"They're still as good as you remember them".. its a good chance the US Censors got a hold of them and hacked them up. 50+ years of running great cartoons... and then suddenly the US Censors decided toons are too violent, to racial, blah, blah. The end result... your favorite toons are cut down all explosions, violent gags, racial references are all gone.
I haven't seen a Tom & Jerry toon in years with Mamie in it. They slaughtered Tex Avery toons. I just watched
"Droopy's Good Deed", and a number of scenes were removed... (example: cabin burns down with Spike burnt
up... and Droopy opens the ash door and says "Hey Blackie, got anymore babes in there?") - DenTPuzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He will be missed.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you Mr. Barbera. RIP
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another legened from the golden age of animation. Since Chuck Jones and Virgil Ross both passed as well, there's not too many from that period left. Geniuses all of them. They will be sorely missed, but millions will enjoy their works and their vision for years to come.
- baaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From Jonny Quest on,..
A true master of his passion. He will be well remembered - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hanna Barbera is now no more... Its sad... to me they were the top of the heap on number of toons produced. I even enjoyed their Live action shows and "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Theme Park" (Yes they did that movie).
Anyone know if a painting was done of all the Hanna Barbera characters in it missing the two, the way they did
one for Mel Blancs' characters when he passed? - fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sad
you can see alot of the intros and 70s shows hear
http://www.retrojunk.com/ - ajwashere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I lost much of my productive holidays due to this guy :-(
Rest in peace Joe..........He was smm-aaarter than the average cartoon producer! - Antebios, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Come on, Johnny Quest was the best. Now we have the Venture Brothers !!!!!!
- martin993, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So what if he was 95 years old? It would be kinda silly to start saying RIP while he's still alive, don't ya think? Should we all start doing it in advance now for really old people?
It's cool that he was 95 and died with his family around. The guy was awesome. - frositay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Omg. He will be missed :(, I grew up watching the majority of cartoons created by him, especially 2 Stupid Dogs. RIP.
- bluemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I loved The Jetsons and Scooby Doo when I was a kid. Granted I was a late 80's/early 90's kid those seemed old (our local TV had reruns), but really the best cartoons are from that era. I just can't see the magic of modern animation as much, but maybe that's because I'm adult already. I'm sure a lot can relate to me that the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons are some of the best of our time.
- LordDshyzL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1one of the two men responsible for televised animation, RIP- You will be missed
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sad day for budding young animators too.
:( - scoobydiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very sad day for cartoon lovers like myself, His great work will live on.
- Sethbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Born in 79 so got to watch most in repeats during the 80's
Great cartoons for sure, and someone who for sure contributed to the pop culture memories of millions.
Damn I wish Time Warner carried Boomerang up here, we have it on the rival cable co up here but they dont service out here in the boonies :( - awhite2600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Along with the Warner Bros shorts they are my favorites. These cartoons are SO much better than the crap that is produced today.
I had the opportunity to meet Joe Barbera briefly many years ago. He was at a display of animation cels in a high priced art store in Atlantic City. Too bad everything was out of my price range. I consider this meeting to be one of my most cherished memories.
You will be missed Mr. Barbera. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He was a great man who helped raised millions of children around the world through his wonderful works of art. RIP
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I liked the Superfriends as a little kid. Thundarr the Barbarian, Godzilla, Spaceghost.
Wow, all the memories that guy gave me... - Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I remember watching his shows and they were fun when I was a kid but I outgrew them pretty quick. Thanks for the laughs Joe. Hope you're able to still laugh wherever you are.
- kaboomski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RIP- Joe Barbera, Other than my grandpa, this guy told the best stories to me as a child. Sad but true. You will be missed.
- kudzu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is some Hanna Barbera cartoons.
http://www.miniclip.com/toons/en/hanna-barbera.php - spira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Barbera was certainly better than the average bear
- SpookyET, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is really terrible. I've watched Yogi Bear, Flintstones, Ton and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and many others that I don't even remember. He will be missed.
- Pericle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Respect!
- MrSpock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for giving myself and millions of others such wonderful memories! They sure don't make 'em like they used to.
RIP - alperea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've always thought Yogi Bear as unfunny. I was so happy when I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEJ_aY8RxLI
- jme73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rest in peace Joe, on behalf of my generation thank you for all the laughs
- jmbarbera, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It would have been nice if Mr. Barbera received 1/100th the news coverage as Anna Nicole Smith did.
