- Ocelot13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25is the divide between "service" and "unavailable"?
- TheOther1, on 10/10/2007, -9/+27Looks like the Chavez labor reform is coming along nicely.
/sarcasm - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17well, at least they're not homeless... I guess...
- irvman21, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15People in poverty here have a television with cable, a cell phone, car, and AC and are overweight because they have more than enough to eat. Kinda puts it in perspective.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -0/+9Whenever the supposedly upcoming "Photo" feature is incorporated, it should have an auto-mirror feature, because anything with IMAGE in the title is always down when I click it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -17/+25Poor people are like rabbits, as long as there is food they'll produce an unlimited number of little poor people.
- crapmatic, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11If the United States housing market bubble fails to burst, I'm pretty sure I'll be living in one of those shacks when I retire. If it does burst, well, I'll probably be living in one anyway. *****.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11god damnit! :@
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Reminds me of Atlantic City. Pretty scary when you get a block away from the boardwalk.
- nunzi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6MIRROR (kinda):
welcome to caracas, venezuela
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1388/1115860400_fe990c012c_o.jpg
the buildings on the left are called ranchos (ghetto shacks) and surround most parts of inner-city caracas, the capital of venezuela. the contrast is incredible.

- n8f8, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12Just like I remember it. This is what happens when the government fails to control development and encourage economic development. No magic hand waving of Mr. Chavez is gonna fix the problem. In fact, his anti-capitalist actions are strangling their economy.
- CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7dude, have you ever been to miami? there are literally people starving here.
i went to downtown miami for jury duty last week.
there are so many homeless people in downtown miami that if i had a 20 dollar bill in ones i could hand out a dollar a person and be out before reaching the courthouse steps.
its like night of the living dead.
it makes you afraid to give them a dollar or some spare change because theres so many homeless youll get rushed. its like the chicle kids in mexico. - seanc6610, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Tijuana, Mexico is the same thing, except the rich and the poor are separated by only 30 or 35 feet across a dirt road. I was there for a week building houses and driving down roads like that are the most depressing thing ever.
- multitude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Why is this Chavez's fault? He has been at fault for some things that may have infringed on the rights to free speech, but you should understand that he was elected, as a strongly leftward-leaning president, because people were angry about the poverty around them. His entire platform has been dedicated to fighting that inequality. You can't expect to turn around years of abuse by the businesses and governments of rich countries in a few years under a new administration, though.
- Darkjedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Or just automatically link to duggmiror.

- ccheath, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6OH PLEASE
moveon.org supports the democratic system we have here in America and is not trying to overthrow the govt
(unless by 'overthrow' you mean 'vote against in the next election') - frascellyboy273, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5i guess you guys think im kidding...
- ScienceDoc, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11Looks like Washington, D.C.
- orvtech, on 10/10/2007, -9/+13If only the Dicator (Hugo Chavez) would stop giving the Venezuelans money away to other countries (Jamaica, Haiti, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Iran, El Salvador, Cuba, Belorussia, Trinidad, Caribbean islands, etc), if only he and his people would stop their own corruption and advocate to the Venezuelan society at least half of what he claims he does... Here more pics about the situation that is going on in Venezuela http://www.noolvidaremos.com/Fotos.html . you will see that the democratically elected Dictator does not care at all about his fellows Venezuelans in fact he care more about castro-comunist Cubans which BTW it is not really communism it is Capitalism of State.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Reminds me of the border of Mexico.
- jackflack, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Which house did Sean Penn stay in when he visited?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4In Australia Waldo is called Wally
- shiv68, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I went to Caracas years ago, I'd rather be dropped off in Detroit in the middle of the night carrying a Confederate then go there again.
- Tagaiz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4im digging you down just cause of your name
- jonr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Wow. Chavez must really get a beating in the US media...
- multitude, on 10/10/2007, -8/+11This has nothing to do with "Socialism". Venezuela has been a struggling capitalist country for years before Chavez took power. What you are seeing is not his doing whatsoever, it is the result of decades of unfair policies and "development" programs from institutions like the IMF and World Bank that really just benefited the rich countries. Not Socialism, but years of being savaged by rich, capitalistic countries.
- Proctor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4mirror?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Let me guess multitude.... you are one of those that believes that socialism works......it just hasn't been tried by the right people yet.
Socialism, by its general term, does not encourage people to strive to do their best. "Everyone" is the same, regardless of how smart you
are, how dumb you are, you get the same treatment. Now, if you are a "worker" say in whatever field you are in, why would you knock yourself
out to do a better job, when your coworker does just enough to get by. Why "knock yourself out" to do better? It won't do you any good.
That breeds a lazy attitude in which sloppy work causes the entire machine to bog down. I know the anti-capitalist on digg would love to have
their "socialist utopia", but in reality, it will never work. Just get over it and move on. - Metalmoon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5If there was a TV station supporting a coup against a democratically elected government in the US, how long do you think it would be before it was shut down?
- Kazanoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Try 'Unwitty comment in bad humour'
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Yes, of course Caracas's shanty towns are the fault of the US. Only the US, of all the countries of the world, holds the keys to every countries success!
- orvtech, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6that sounds fair. you are right, lest do like chavez... lets talk s1ht about the US and keep selling them OIL and other goods. that will teach the "First World" a lesson.
- CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8thats exactly what the wealthy want miami to become. it's already well on its way.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3improved literacy rates, set up farming co-ops, improved access to free health care, draft a constitution by mass referendum and allowing the lower class who constitute the majority of venezuelans to participate in the democratic process for the first time in the nation's history?
it must be terrible that the poor aren't marginalized for the benefit of the privileged ruling elite anymore, huh? i guess you probably supported the media-backed military coup that tried to remove the constitution drafted by the people and replace chavez with an appointed dictator favored by the rich? - zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5This site's hosting is being managed in one of the houses on the left.
- BabyWookie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Do you realize that the shanty towns existed longs before Chavez came to power and that the poverty rates have gone down since?
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Shhh...socialism is good. Ignore all facts and history.
- nakmario, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5YEAH! If socialism can't cure poverty in less than 10 years then it obviously sucks really bad.
/sarcasm - DiggsOnlyJew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2When was the last time you were there? It's been heavily cleaned up in the past 10 years.
That said, still a true statement back in the day. - irvman21, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Make the generalization that Marxism is doomed to failure? Yes. I will always do that.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Or if Socialist Health Care is thrust upon US citizens.
