- darthsand, on 07/17/2009, -9/+313America: ***** YEAH!
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -4/+202In Detroit, you buy AK-47, steal free car.
- DrLeePhD, on 07/18/2009, -4/+128Buy an AK-47, get unlimited free cars!
- Dimensio, on 07/17/2009, -9/+104Mr. Jonhnston's concerns are entirely irrational. AK-47-styled firearms typically available for civilian purchase are not "assault rifles" and serve a number of legal purposes such as hunting, defense and recreational target shooting.
- Duffle, on 07/18/2009, -2/+96I'll just buy an AK-47 without the car.
- ripple123, on 07/18/2009, -0/+86I CALL SHOTGUN!
- Stormwern, on 07/18/2009, -4/+86We call it the "drive by package".
- Rezistik, on 07/18/2009, -0/+78You need the AK to leave your house here in Detroit.
- O8SERVER, on 07/18/2009, -5/+82I highly doubt this promotion is for an "assault rifle."
Assault rifles are select-fire rifles capable of burst or fully-automatic fire.
This is clearly for a semi-automatic AK-style rifle, not an Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947 assault rifle. - Smyley, on 07/18/2009, -1/+61because that's $550 more?
- D4RK354B3R, on 07/18/2009, -6/+63How about giving us $1000 vouchers so we can buy AR15s instead?
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -0/+54Depends on the model of the car I suppose.
- coraleaterlinda, on 07/17/2009, -21/+72This can't possibly go wrong.
- wannaBdug, on 07/17/2009, -18/+67"I would not encourage people to get an AK-47," Gabe Johnston, of Jasper, Mo., said. "I'm fine with a rifle. But maybe not assault rifles ... I don't see the purpose of those guns." This man terrifies me.
- Dimensio, on 07/18/2009, -10/+56Mr. Mullen has offered such a promotion in previous years. Given the lack of incidents resulting from this promotion, it would seem as though your prediction is reasonable.
- JasonCox, on 07/18/2009, -18/+64I saw this on CNN today, ended up shutting it off not even half way through the interview because the CNN gal started to go off on this anti-gun rant.
- EnTaroTassadar, on 07/18/2009, -4/+46You forget, an AK-47 is one o' them thar terrist guns. It ain't yer grandad's gun. *****'ll blow your freedom to smithereens!
Go buy one of them cars and get them terrist guns before the terrists can get 'em! - crackyflipside, on 07/18/2009, -4/+45I'm not going to lie, guys. This is pretty awesome.
- bixby1, on 07/17/2009, -5/+45win win
- Super6, on 07/18/2009, -1/+36Here are my problems with this:
1. There is a college called Caltech, but the gun manufacturer is called Kel-Tec, epic fail
2. The quote from the guy in the article saying rifles are OK but we wouldn't recommend an "assault rifle." That's *****. An assault rifle has multiple fire modes (single, full-auto, and often 1 or more bursts), the AK-47's sold to the public don't have this, they're single shot (unless of course you get a class 3 firearm but that's not what we're talking about). So, what makes these so much worse than any other rifle? Well the wood grain, curved clip, and the the name "AK-47," of course! - TheRedNewt, on 07/18/2009, -4/+39Kind of has a right to be annoyed if the INTERVIEWER was on an anti-gun rant. So much for journalism.
I didn't see the interview, so I don't know. However, given how interviews are done on cable networks normally, I wouldn't be surprised. - skyfyre, on 07/18/2009, -1/+34Gabe Johnston apparently has no idea what he's talking about. I guarantee that his idea of an "assault rifle" would include hunting rifles with "assault rifle"-looking parts. The "AK-47" they've got in the pawn shop/gun shop there is a semi-automatic, 7.62mm rifle that LOOKS like its fully auto brother.
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -0/+30700 Billions could have bought us 100 hot-dogs each.
WHERE ARE MY HOT-DOGS!
WHY DIDN'T OBAMA BUY OSCAR MEYER! - Joemedic, on 07/18/2009, -1/+30^^Common sense he has it^^
- Alegoo92, on 07/18/2009, -0/+25I miss when Digg's comments were filled with witty one liners. Thanks for the nostalgia.
- palehorse864, on 07/18/2009, -3/+28Yeah but it LOOKS scary!
- DrLeePhD, on 07/18/2009, -1/+25It's headin' right for us!
- FervinsUlterius, on 07/18/2009, -4/+27Stupid. I'm glad you don't live in the USA also.
- drazen77, on 07/18/2009, -1/+22Unfortunately, there's been a run on AR-15's as Obama was getting elected. Now I gotta wait.... /sigh
- DrKnowitall, on 07/18/2009, -11/+30With the AK-47 you can get a free car! Better deal.
- thatonekid393, on 07/18/2009, -0/+18...AK-47s are only $450?
- ganymede2010, on 07/18/2009, -2/+20"So what they do, go and ban the AK? ยท My ***** wasn't registered any ***** way"
ICE CUBE - NoNotReally, on 07/18/2009, -0/+18Max might be small town dealership guy,
but his marketing and publicity skills is massive.
The right marketing for the right demographic =] - Lightnin4000, on 07/18/2009, -5/+22The perfect deal for that cash strapped gang-banger that's sick of doing drive-bys in his mom's car with that rusty old .22 rifle.
- Keggluneq, on 07/18/2009, -3/+20@Dimensio,
Great point. By the same token, North Korea has had nukes for a few years without incident, so it's probably a good idea to let them have more. - GreenNoise, on 07/18/2009, -0/+17In Mogadishu it's only $15
- darkciti2, on 07/18/2009, -2/+19I'm going to respectfully disagree with you.
Handguns belong in the nightstand(safe) and are used to keep the bad guys at bay long enough for me to get to my assault rifle.
Anyone entering my home illegally better hope that I go down before I reach the AR15. Otherwise, I win and I will have reduced the criminal population by the number of bodies I've painted onto the first floor.
note: they make rapid access nightstand safes and I wouldn't keep a gun if it wasn't stored properly and safely:

Having said that, I think this is a dopey car sales gimmick. - tymme, on 07/18/2009, -1/+18One-upping last year's promotion. Next year, it's the BFG9000.
- FervinsUlterius, on 07/18/2009, -2/+18actually, gang bangers typically commit crimes with large caliber handguns
- Samurai77, on 07/18/2009, -3/+19Wow somebody is pretentious.
The Swiss have nearly a half million FULLY automatic rifles in the homes of the militia, along with approx. 300,000 converted to semi auto, and still they have a very low gun crime rate.
The real problem is people and their mentality, education, and training. - ThreeDee912, on 07/18/2009, -1/+17Here we go again...

Whatever happened to the marketplace of ideas? - justinbaker, on 07/18/2009, -2/+17im glad you dont live here either!
- fury420, on 07/18/2009, -11/+25I'd be much more terrified of people who advocate everyone owning an AK-47 & give them away for free than people who don't see the purpose of owning those guns.
- Smyley, on 07/18/2009, -0/+14You already said something like that.
- palehorse864, on 07/18/2009, -1/+15You just wanted to say hoplophobic.
People who drag out rarely used words just to say them and show off should be defenestrated. - bermudianguy, on 07/18/2009, -1/+15Don't get pissed but I think Conan O'brien may have stolen your joke.
- hyperlogi, on 07/18/2009, -1/+14No, that was a .44 Magnum
