- Zustinator, on 01/26/2008, -5/+576Fantastic article. It's great to see good people out there. Great (and entertaining) read...
- morningmatters, on 01/26/2008, -2/+299"It's good to know there are some honest people left in the world."
I once have left my bag including a laptop at a shop in JFK airport between connections. Some guy working at a local shop actually ran to the terminal where I was boarding and gave it to me back. Say what you want about New Yorkers but there are many of them who are who are very honest. - DonJohnTom, on 01/26/2008, -1/+257wow forget being a lawyer this guy should be a friggen detective
- Static88, on 01/26/2008, -5/+189Every once and a while, a story comes a long that restores your faith in humanity. Dugg.
- iDoraemon, on 01/26/2008, -3/+161Man, what an awesome story. It's rare to find people willing to go that extra mile or two for a stranger. I wonder what would happen if Hollywood caught wind of this story...

National Treasure: Camera of Secrets - baldgye, on 01/26/2008, -36/+158he's a better man than me, i would have kept it.
- bivouac, on 01/26/2008, -1/+115There are most certainly honest people left in the world. While hiking the Appalachian Trail in '06, I lost a journal in which I had recorded the first half of the hike. A gentleman found the journal on the trail and carried in his pack for over 100 miles. He asked around for me all the way up the trail and finally found me at a trail festival weeks later.
If anyone is a long distance backpacker, you know what it means to carry an extra ounce. Over a beer, he shared with me that while going up every hill he cursed my name for those extra ounces. - h3lx, on 01/26/2008, -1/+112Honesty like that should be contagious.
- BleedingEars, on 01/26/2008, -1/+96It's really good to see there are people out there who will go out of their way to return lost property to complete strangers.
- Stevanoski, on 01/26/2008, -17/+107Agree Zustinator, wonder who/why someone would digg you down for making your comment? Oh, well, gave you a digg to get you above 0.
- Whackly, on 01/26/2008, -1/+89And put into a biochemical weapon and dropped on washington.
- yfguitarist, on 01/26/2008, -6/+84Talk about "Luck of the Irish"!
- orangefly, on 01/26/2008, -3/+64yeah....i'd try but probably not that hard....
- samfishercell, on 01/26/2008, -0/+56Great story! However, from the description and the thumbnail, I first thought it was a child abduction story.
- Neiby, on 01/26/2008, -1/+55This reminds me of something that happened to me once. I found an old scrapbook from the 70s at an antique sale. I felt bad knowing that someone else's memories were being sold like that, so I bought it and tracked down the original owner. Actually, I found that the person who made the scrapbook had died just a year or so earlier, but I was able to return the scrapbook to her family across the country. It was actually a lot of fun to play detective for a week or so and her family was extremely grateful to have the scrapbook back in their possession.
- nikkesen, on 01/26/2008, -0/+48Good people who would make great detectives.
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 01/26/2008, -0/+44at least you're honest
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -2/+44Bullet or money, tough choice.
- Ica7us, on 01/26/2008, -6/+43thank god I was getting bored with the scientology nonsense.
- sagat, on 01/26/2008, -5/+42Murph was just happy he still had the 'other' SD card not the innocent one in the camera.
- pezoamo, on 01/26/2008, -7/+42Pictures are priceless
This gave me hope for humanity - wafflez, on 01/26/2008, -4/+38-1 for basing your comment +1's on a person's political affiliation rather than the actual comment.
- webcrumb, on 01/26/2008, -0/+34Most people are like you. It's just the dicks who aren't, and they're the ones on TV.
- Supernova36, on 01/26/2008, -1/+31Trying to distract us with heartwarming tales..
- Zustinator, on 01/26/2008, -14/+42Maybe because I'm a Ron Paul fan?? Haha, I don't know, I guess people don't like me too much. Strange... But thanks for digging me up!
- joepeg, on 01/26/2008, -8/+36Like calling people *****?
- toddkay, on 01/26/2008, -0/+26When I left my $400 Sony Ericsson k800i in a Chicago cab New Years eve, the next guy in the cab called a buddy of mine with it, and the next day I had it back! Certainly not as epic as this story, but I love that feeling of knowing there are still good people out there.
- PooPsnooP, on 01/26/2008, -2/+25It's frustrating to think that I probably would not do the same.
I'd probably make two phone calls. If that didn't work out, then tough. - HayString, on 01/26/2008, -9/+32You're an *****.
I've happened to find two wallets on campus in just the last few months and I couldn't even bring myself to see how much, if any, money was in them. Why? Because it was none of my business, and it didn't matter anyways. I simply opened them and looked at the IDs to see if I happened to know the person and then brought them to campus PD.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." - Istrancis, on 01/26/2008, -0/+21Yeah, I've had the same experience with a laptop bag, phone and a handbag in the last three weeks. It's a pain, but hey, you do it because it's right. You've gotta remeber too that not only are you helping a person find their missing things, but when you hand it in you're restoring someone else's faith in humanity as well.
- Istanbullfrog, on 01/26/2008, -1/+21This isn't JUST about honesty, this is about somebody going above and beyond to find the owner of this camera. The work involved with this must have been tremendous. THAT is the true story behind this story. Great article :D
- Matt2k, on 01/26/2008, -0/+18That sounds like an amazing experience. That's it. I'm leaving friends and family behind and hitting the trail.
- Versh, on 01/26/2008, -0/+17Cue Nick Cage searching online and posting on craigslist.com with dramatic music blaring in the background then some terrorist-villain character shoots the computer monitor from across the street. Ducking under the desk from the raining glass and more gunfire, he quips to the sidekick nerd, "Dial-up will kill ya!"
The audience groans. - rentmitchum, on 01/27/2008, -1/+17You're the type that kept my girlfriend's engagement ring when she left it in the bathroom for 2 minutes. When she went back, it was gone. Thanks. Think about what you're ***** doing to people.
- fabianp, on 01/26/2008, -1/+15Well, you _are_ the RIAA.
- JrGhoull, on 01/26/2008, -3/+15""I owe you one," he wrote to Ascher. "It's good to know there are some honest people left in the world.""
are you f***ing kidding me? this goes soooo beyond "being a good guy" its not even funny. The guy who lost the camera, despite the fact that 99.9 times out of 100 you dont get whatever you lost back, should have at least called the cab company in ny and filled a lost items report over the phone.
in my book a "good guy" calls around a little bit if he can...to the point thats reasonable. spending a month looking is something else. - stopple, on 01/26/2008, -0/+12Obviously, you are not a long distance backpacker.
- NextGenXbox, on 01/26/2008, -0/+12I experienced something similar... while working at a retail store I accidentally gave a person more change than they were supposed to get and when she noticed, she came back and returned it. She saved me from getting a warning for being short at my register. -- It was nice feeling to know that there was still honest people around.
- endlessoul, on 01/26/2008, -0/+12pfftBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh man, that was the funniest thing I've heard all day. - thekronz, on 01/26/2008, -0/+11Man, that was a great article. It was an adventure!
- rentmitchum, on 01/27/2008, -0/+10Not everyone has a pristine iron-trap of a memory. Douche.. Name one person that hasn't left their car keys somewhere, or their wallet or locked their stuff in their car. No one has a good enough memory to have never done any of those things, and if you haven't, you will. Honest people fix it, by allowing you to get your important things back. Dicks like you make otherwise good days into heartbreak.
- DeadFox1, on 01/26/2008, -3/+13same here. it was getting overwhelming.
- bs0l, on 01/26/2008, -1/+11-Black and white-
*Looks through shades on window. Talks to self.* - vernsan, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9So you wouldn't of gave the camera back?
- FatLoser, on 01/26/2008, -1/+10No but u can digg him down for being a thieving *****
- Hoogs, on 01/26/2008, -5/+13It would be nice to see more stories like this and less about Scientology, bashing politicians, etc.
- Locke23, on 01/26/2008, -3/+11Entertaining read, all throughout I wondered what I would've done myself. A classic example of being noble and giving what you expect in return. Still, It had a moral, I'm keeping a closer eye on my own Nikon D40x
- Hoogs, on 01/26/2008, -1/+9Nah, it would have to involve saving the world somehow, otherwise it wouldn't work.
- Istrancis, on 01/26/2008, -0/+8You've gotta remember that there's good and bad in every community. My guess is that there's more good than bad, much more. Sure it might seem like there're more bad ones, but they're just louder, that's all!
- DaffyDuck, on 01/26/2008, -1/+9Then you suck.
