- Arbus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+71Her name is Wendy. She makes all the male dogs her bitch.
- sanman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+59Heh, reminds me of that show Tiny Toon Adventures, where they had this musclebound dog with the Schwarzenegger accent.
- Al3x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+57Here is the human equivalent to the genetic mutation that caused this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5278028/ - fava, on 10/11/2007, -3/+60its not steroids, its a genetic mutation.

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+49*****.
- dwbell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37Even crazier when you consider that's a Whippet not a pitbull!
To see what a whippet is supposed to look like:
http://www.justusdogs.com.au/images/whippet.jpg - NickyBatts, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33Well let's see it man!
Lazy bastard! - DroidBlender, on 09/18/2008, -1/+33Holy *****. I bet the owner's mail man has to deliver mail to his house with an armored truck.
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Since it wasn't photoshopped, the only thing obvious here is that somebody's a know-it-all
- dpcdomino, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33-"Spike...Fetch"
-"Owner...***** off" - TheNik, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33It's ironic because that breed is generally really skinny. :P
- chowdah, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25it's a female
- cugar, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25ive seen some pretty big pitbulls in my day, but this little whippet could probably body slam any one of them
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20I never thought I would feel immasculated by a dog. Let-alone a female dog.
- berryhill, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19No, it's a rare genetic mutation, read it here: http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/story.html?id=67f15c17-2717-4022-bb76-1b982456e793&k=94653
- spargett, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Wendy is a 27-kilogram rippling mass of muscle. Forget the so-called six-pack stomach: Wendy has a 24-pack. And the muscles around her neck are so thick, they look like a lion's ruff.
"People have referred to her as Arnold Schwarzenegger," says doting owner Ingrid Hansen, stroking Wendy's sleek black coat and white chest.
Wendy was recently part of a genetics study done in the U.S. on mutation in the myostatin gene in whippets, which resemble greyhounds in appearance. The National Institute of Health study reported that whippets with one single defective copy of the gene have increased muscle mass that can enhance racing performance in the breed, known for speeds up to 60 kilometres an hour.
But whippets with two mutated copies of the gene become "double-muscled," like Wendy. It has been seen before in one human, and also in mice, cattle and sheep, says the study.
The uber-muscled whippets are called "bullies," not because of their nature -- Wendy likes nothing better than a good back scratch and isn't shy about sitting in your lap to ask for one -- but because of their size. She's about twice the weight of an average whippet, but with the same height and small narrow head -- and the same size heart and lungs, which means she probably won't live as long as normal whippets.
Hansen has had Wendy, now four, since she bought the dog from a Shawnigan Lake breeder when she was eight months old.
Wendy landed in clover. She lives on an acreage, runs around with other dogs and horses, sleeps on Hansen's bed and pretty much anywhere else she wants to.
People are often afraid when the muscle-bound dog runs up to them on her dainty whippet-thin legs, but they soon realize she's friendly, Hansen said. - sandfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15... believe it.
- FadieZ, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16The dog's a she??!?
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14At least try to read the submission.

I have tried to post this 4 times but having some strange issue - JohnboiWaltune, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13There is a human who has the same mutation, a kid in Germany. It is likely he is a product of inbreeding:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5278028/ - SurrealDream, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15AND ON THE FRONT PAGE, THE DOG COMES OUT ON TOP OF THE CAT!
It's all over folks. - s0nicfreak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12um... are you saying that most of the time dogs hump your legs because you want them to?
- aDJsavedmylife, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Insert ***** Internet joke.
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11They were all posted by numpties who couldn't be arsed to read the submission and were therefore a waste of everyones time.
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Was his name John-117, aka Master Chief?
- merrickx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13So there was that kid on digg a few weeks ago that had this same mutation. It's extremely rare in humans but slightly more common in dogs and whatnot. A mutation I almost wish I had to a certain degree. The kid, if I remember, had absolutely nothing wrong with him. He was super strong and even his bones were more dense.
- chowdah, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11You must have weird taste in women...
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Have you seen the movie "Gattaca"?
- ROFLance, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12We should make him fight against the cat on the front page. :p
- ate50eggs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I don't think it was the mad scientist from Southpark...it doesn't have 4 asses.
- cjpro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9The owners are probably 90 pound weaklings.
- insecuregirl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8It is not about injecting steroids. Scientists have found a mutant DNA segment that blocks production of a protein called myostatin that limits muscle growth. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5278028/
The news comes seven years after researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore created buff “mighty mice” by “turning off” the gene that directs cells to produce myostatin. Muscle wasting also is common in the elderly and patients with diseases such as cancer and AIDS. “If you could find a way to block myostatin activity, you might slow the wasting process,” said Dr. Se-Jin Lee, the Johns Hopkins professor whose team created the “mighty mice.” Lee said he believes a myostatin blocker also could suppress fat accumulation and thus thwart the development of diabetes. Lee and Johns Hopkins would receive royalties for any myostatin-blocking drug made by Wyeth. Dr. Eric Hoffman, director of Children’s National Medical Center’s Research Center for Genetic Medicine, said he believes a muscular dystrophy cure will be found, but he is unsure whether it will be a myostatin-blocking drug, another treatment or a combination, because about a dozen genes have some effect on muscles. He said a mystotatin-blocking drug could help other groups of people, including astronauts and others who lose muscle mass during long stints in zero gravity or when immobilized by illness or a broken limb. Eventual health problems? Researchers would not disclose the German boy’s identity but said he was born to a somewhat muscular mother, a 24-year-old former professional sprinter. Her brother and three other close male relatives all were unusually strong, with one of them a construction worker able to unload heavy curbstones by hand. In the mother, one copy of the gene is mutated and the other is normal; the boy has two mutated copies. One almost definitely came from his father, but no information about him has been disclosed. The mutation is very rare in people. The boy is healthy now, but doctors worry he could eventually suffer heart or other health problems. In the past few years, scientists have seen great potential in myostatin-blocking strategies. Internet marketers have been hawking “myostatin-blocking” supplements to bodybuilders, though doctors say the products are useless and perhaps dangerous. Some researchers are trying to turn off the myostatin gene in chickens to produce more meat per bird. And several breeds of cattle have natural variations in the gene that, aided by selective breeding, give them far more muscle and less fat than other steer. - yoshitomi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Why, is the dog Soviet?
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7She is a whippet, not quite as fast as a greyhound but same type dog.
- MsAdamWe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I love you so much for reminding me about that character.
- MasterThief117, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8*****, something tells me that in a few years, people will pay big money for their kids to be implanted with this gene.
- procopio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7And possibly break your leg in the process.
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yeah I'd say this dog has a bit of trouble moving too fast, but keep in mind her heart and such are still the same size. This isn't the result of conditioning so I doubt her body would take the strain of going too fast.
- crawf061, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"runs around with other dogs and horses"
I'll bet she resembles the horses more than the other dogs - scabbers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Look at a leopard, and take note of it's relative lack of insane muscles.
- slicedoranges, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6What is "Southpark"?
edit: Sorry, I was watching Thesimpsons and didn't realize what you were saying. -
