- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -16/+64HDR is becoming the equivalent of the flashy "Chrome Rims" of Photography. these people don't understand the concept of restraint ..quality photography should look organic and unporcessed
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36"quality photography should look organic and unporcessed"
Thanks for sharing your opinion. But don't forget it's just an opinion. In my opinion I like art for art's sake. I don't care how the artists arrived at the final image, if it appeals to me, then that's good enough. And I do like these images. - SirNoobius, on 10/12/2007, -12/+36so can we see the REAL pictures?
- electronaught, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26that hut would probably cost at least $300k in southern california :p I love those pics though, awesome imagery!
- Sp0rAdiC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Looks like it'd be a sweet video game.
- Crossing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The first few pictures remind me of a goth-like shire in Lord of the Rings
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Dugg because "amazing" was nowhere to be found in the title/description.
And because the pictures are sweet. - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14good HDR photography doesn't draw too much attention to the processing
This reeks of Photoshop.
Looks like what a screenshot of Ravenholm in Half Life 3 might look like. - theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i was thinking The 13th Warrior personally
- Joe091, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yes
- BlueLander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The site says "they are processed", so I guess they did have some enhancements done to them.
- nadadingsda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Looks very different than Ukrainian Village in Chicago, who would have thought that!
- digg-dugg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Actually, photography is whatever you can do with a camera, sometimes with minimal post-processing.
This is overprocessed-photography.
...and does anyone here actually know what HDR means? A lot of people have just been thowing the term around, when only one photo from the group used the technique. - Essefgy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Or Gilliam's "Brothers Grimm"
- smith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah and that's a bargain, I'd flip that hut and make a cool $100K.
- spanner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ahh peasant life, old buildings, poor heating, bad food, diseaes, sickenss, poverty, death
Isn't it nice to see such quaint scenes, just as long as someone else is living there. - macdaddydwj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Isn't any iconic replication of something art... I mean photo or photo with special effects... still represents the same thing. If you don't understand the difference, try watching porn in black and white, watch it in color, then have sex, then maybe you'll get the idea. Who cares what art looks like, as long as it inspires you to experience or at least appreciate the experience of what the artist did.
- Zephyros828, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What? No lens flares?
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What about waht Ansel Adams did? He took post-processing to an insane extreme. Added in moons and stuff like that.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So sad that these are such low resolution.
- MarkCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5These look right out of the Middle Ages! Incredible pictures, shopped no doubt, is it that HDR effect that was on Digg a few weeks ago?
- Tordenflesk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, they would've made great wallpapers etc.
- digg-dugg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, its a bloom-effect.
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fire in the hay!
- hobbla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks a bit Resident Evil 4ish to me.
- mkporwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In the lower right corner you can see the word "Wiedzmin" -- these are sceenshots from a Polish video game of the same name. Wiedzmin translates as "The Witcher" or "The Hexer", and is a popular Polish fantasy series by Andrzej Sapkowski. More info about the video game is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hexer
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well, Ukraine has the 31st largest economy in the world, coupled with 12,196,319 people legible for military service, and spending over $617.9 million (US) on defense annually, with currently 303,000 people in the Ukrainian armed forces sporting 100's of T-84 main battle tanks, MiG-29s and Su-27 Fighter jets.
i think they stronger than you think
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_Ukraine - kuribo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I couldn't stop thinking of Resident Evil 4.
- konspence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like this is a village that was abandoned during the Chernobyl accident. It's in the same area, I think.
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Vhatt!? Ukraine is game to you??

Splat! - aoe2bug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Amazing pictures, First thing i noticed though:
There's a woman's face in the sky of the second image. - ideasware, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sleepy Hollow meets The Nightmare Before Christmas...
- sloof70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They may be Photoshop'd up the ass, but damn do they look fine.
- Magnes, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1No, they are not.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I looked at those I almost expected to see Vampires swooping down from the sky....(van helsing style)
- naisanza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks kinda photoshopped
- lydia1013, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand what's so wrong with owning something by Thomas Kinkade? I don't (really, I don't) own anything by him, but I've seen it.
My opinion is that art is in the eye of the beholder. If a person sees Thomas Kinkade's work and it evokes a desired emotional response, why not own it?
I know that art is sometimes classified as "bad art", but, ya' know, unless you're a real art snob (of which there are relatively few), you are going to put on your walls what makes you happy or sad or whatever. - jmontes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I can only imagine the positive comments here are all by people who own works by Thomas Kinkade.
- AnthonyA7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK, I think in 2006 (almost 2007), everyone has the capability to post pictures of a resolution higher than 1024x768 (never mind 700x525 or whatever those pictures are).
I mean, my computer is running 1920x1200 and I purchased it 2 years ago; these images are basically medium sized thumbnails on my screen. No camera now a days takes pictures at such a small resolution, and the physical size of the picture probably isn't prohibitive (< 1MB).
Call me a whiner, but I think it's a shame that that my appreciation of the pictures is reduced to only a fleeting observation- instead of a continued appreciation through a berth on my desktop. - iamdan1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Took me a minute to find it Dan, but I found it.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its a yurt!
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this site here gives you detailed information about the numbers of tanks, planes, and ships the Ukraine has at is disposal:

- x00x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of the time blog-hype never approaches the reality of what gets posted but these images are truly breathtaking spectacular, stunning!Wow!
Thanks. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
The line between kitsch and art is very fine one...
Typical examples are Thomas D. Mangelsen and Wyland galleries around the US.
If you want to see some real art... please visit your local museum...
For other "Art" - your local downtown shopping mall. - OrlyonokEaglet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1low pass filter can result in a similar effect, well in Corel Photo Paint anyway. There are a few examples of High Dynamic Range images on wikipedia.
- digg-dugg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Relax pal, its a joke; dont you watch seinfeld.
watch the video above.^
Im sure they have a wonderful army - Pile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Thomas Kinkaid.. my thoughts exactly.... gaudy and obnoxious. Crank up the contrast, create unnatural colors and people think they're seeing something special. It's basically a color optical illusion to simulate contrast levels they're not used to seeing because in real life, eyes don't work like that, so people think... OMG that's awesome... it's the color equivalent to dogs playing poker.
- jovada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1#
This is fake. Wiedzmin is not Ukrainian name, it is Polish and stands for “Witcher”. Witcher is popular fantasy book and moovie in Poland as well as Russia. The Witcher computer game coming out next spring, ans some of the architecture in these images is VERY similar to screenshots of the game. So this most likely is concept art for game.

Comment by Viskas — December 24, 2006 @ 12:17 am - digg-dugg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Actually the only photo that used HDR would be the one with the windmill in the background.
The overwhelming bloom-effect in the rest of the photos is simply created by blending a duplicate of the photo by 'overlay' -- then blurring the 'overlay'. The guy just learned a new trick, and killed a bunch of great photos in the process. -
