- tlmac59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I may be more worried about the people who want "holy water" from the snake. . . .

- Mooseknuckle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Very good point. Snakes are not "friendly", or smart animals at all. Reptiles are relatively stupid when compared to mammals. They can tell a human from a chicken, or goat, but it doesn't mean that they would never attack a human.
I owned this exact type of snake (Burmese Python) for about 6 years, and watched mine grow from a hatchling to about fourteen feet (mine was a male, the one in the video was female). I, and my friends would hold it every day, and it was just as "chill" as the one in the video. I kept it well fed on rabbits and chickens, and it had a happy life.
Then the time came when I had to sell it for personal reasons, and I sold it to a pet store for about 25% of what it was worth, because that pet store promised to take really good care of it. Well, they didn't. I went and visited my python 3 years later in that pet store, and it was anemic looking. Underfed, and never held. I asked the guy working if I could take him out of his cage, and he replied that the snake was mean, and would try to bite whoever took him out.
So, snakes can unlearn their docility, and become intrinsically hostile, especially when not fed. I doubt the snake in the video will be a problem though, as he seems to get a lot of attention, and looks plenty well fed. - Aamir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2saw it on the news..

http://students.washington.edu/mardavis/Pictures/Bath.JPG - EdLesMann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am glad things are going well for the kid and glad for an update! I have been hearing about this kid for several years now ( short google search returns articles for the past several years, like this one http://www.strangezoo.com/content/item/10121.html ).
I think it is interesting how a "wild and dangerous" animal can be tame when in the right situations. I also think its interesting how that python cares for the kid and plays with it. Not exactly the first pet of my choice for my son...but maybe that's just me :-D
Thanks for the update! - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ALSO FROM REUTERS:
