- mrgreenjeans, on 10/10/2007, -2/+99FTA: "Officers responding to a report of an exorcism..."
What's the police code for that?
We've got a 666 in progress, be advised suspect is hovering and dangerous. - Ventolin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33Useless without pics.
- toolegittoquit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32That's why you need two priests. When the "Power of Christ" isn't compelling the demon-possessed girl to be calm you need that extra priest muscle.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -23/+51an exorcism? seriously? how does this stuff happen in this day and age?
either religion naturally attracts crazies or naturally causes people to become crazy, either way it's a social pathology that clearly needs to be eradicated. the only way to do so is through fostering a culture that promotes free thought and skepticism. societies that embrace reason and are culturally progressive tend to be more immune to this dysfunctional institution.
if you need moral guidance, study the philosophy of ethics. if you want to understand the nature of being, study ontological philosophies. the reality is, if you want to discover truth, you need to work hard for it. it's difficult answering or even understanding philosophical questions, but when people seek to be given simplistic answers or explanations to life, they just end up abandoning reason altogether and start embracing irrational and unfounded beliefs, which is extremely dangerous. - kkeith02, on 10/10/2007, -7/+33Um... Exorcism is still a part of the Catholic Catechism and is still practiced today. The main difference between this article and the Catholic's take was the fact that her grandfather was doing it - not a priest.
And before anyone goes bashing the Church about still believing in exorcism, note that the Church would be the first one to tell you an exorcism is not the answer. They prefer to have all medical possibilities reasoned out before even attempting one (no, I'm not taking this from the movie). - JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Its fixed!?
- professor0fruit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Yep a naked teenager saying something religious is the key ingredient to an exorcism
They got it right finally - Burento, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24Damn that Bloddy spelling error.... grrr
- OneHine, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22Yeah, it's not like religion has done anything to warrant criticism. Like...result in the torture of a little girl.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15They were interviewing a priest on the news about this story, and he pretty much said that these people were nuts, although not in so many words.
- ChessPieceFace, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Awww Bloddy Hell.
- AtheistAcolyte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Stereotyping... by pointing out that the free practice of religion did this to this 3-year-old girl while her naked and bloody mother sat and chanted in the same room?
Of course, if this were a Satanic Baptism, you'd all be up in arms. - miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10See ya.
- Kratisto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9If it can't be proven scientifically by any means, it doesn't logically exist. If you can't prove that I'm eating invisible cookies, then I'm not. No matter how much I try to convince you that my invisible cookies are tasty as hell, they don't exist, and my saying 'well prove otherwise' is all a clever ploy to make you go out and find me invisible, tasty cookies. Damn... I feel like getting some invisible cookies.
- plnegative1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8And apparently, the grandfather must have been possessed....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Am I the only one that wants to see pictures of a naked 19 year old after this article?
- neoblaque, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This article is about a Christian getting killed. Maybe your articles are just, boring. You also need to work on your math, 74 diggs isn't "thousands"
- 28dayslater, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Do you considered it hate when they post about priests raping children? Does that offend you as well?
- TheSaladMan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8That's the point, you're supposed to enjoy it while you have it. Not just throw it all away because you think there's a party in the clouds waiting for you when you die.
- bclark303, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Dude, you need to learn to relax and live in the now!! If you're doing things ONLY to please god, then you're doing them for the wrong reason. Try starting a family and enjoy the time you have with them. Maybe there is an after life, maybe there isn't. The one thing we do know exists is the present, try living in it.
- AtheistAcolyte, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9It's true of course, we plan to take over the world and bring about the end of days and weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth with our ... best-selling books and fearsome biology and physics knowledge.
Get a clue. Religion exults in people following without question. Atheists may not be "pure as driven snow", but they're a damn sight better off than these folks. - TheSaladMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Not just the catholics do it other christian groups do aswell, someone very close to me from a baptist family was exocised for his sexuality.
- EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Quite the opposite!
We should focus and do so on a daily basis on all the absurdities coming out of religion, whether it's called christianity, Islam or something else. - OneHine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Hell, if you're going to use magic rituals, there's no need to be logical or reasonable or repeatable. That's why exorcisms fall in the religion category and not science.
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9There is no god, no supreme being (other than the 5th element, but I digress) no devil, no demons. The people who believe in any and all of this ***** need to remove themselves from gene pool or we are all doomed. We are not as far removed from the days of burning witches at the stake as people might assume. Seriously, if you believe in god or the devil or allah or jesus or muhammad or buddah or vishnu or xenu, etc, etc, you are just ***** stupid. Kindly drink the kool-aid.
- AtheistAcolyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah, sure, a Hindu-to-Christian convert being beaten to death by ex-fellow Hindus in a savagely religion-torn country is equivalent to a bloody 3-year-old child being choked by her grandfather while her naked and blood-covered mother sat nearby in PHOENIX, ARIZONA.
Drop the persecution complex. It doesn't fit well. - somaclast, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Cause of death: DEMONS ENERGY!!!!
How the hell do people in this century believe in ritualistic magic and demons and crap like that? - enginbeering, on 10/10/2007, -10/+16I'll probably get buried for saying this, but...
I don't get why stories like this make it to the front page of digg. This seriously seems like something I'd see on the local "news at 10".
I mean the world is ***** up. There are ***** up people. We really shouldn't be focusing on this kind of stuff. - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+6Says "Bloody" for me.
- GideonCDingle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Sober drivers are as pure as the driven snow. No sober driver have (sic) ever done anything like hate someone, hurt anyone or committed a crime. Yeah, right. Yet somehow we all survive without multiple, daily sober-driver-bashing threads. Go figure.
- grubworth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Maybe some good will come out of this,
like a decent horror movie. - giddytonk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7That poor poor girl. Old nut must have caught her reading Harry Potter.
- vagrantwade, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Religious Digg articles are like a battle between heaven and hell.I love reading the comments and seeing the + and - goes up and down as the Christians and Atheists face off in an all out verbal brawl. But seriously, shouldn't the Christians be busy preparing for the rapture in 2012 instead of relentlessly defending their belief?
- AtheistAcolyte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What?
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Demons are as fictitious as the bible, so no. Most likely a heart condition.
- neoblaque, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7RTFA - The mother was naked, bleeding and chanting. Her daughter was the one being exorcised, the 3 year old. Lovely familia.
- havesometea, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What kind of sick ***** does that to a 3-year old? I need to send some donuts to that police department.
- tc0718, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4See also "Bibles Should Come With a Disclaimer"
- CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4dude this aint *****.
they find beheaded goats and sacrificed chickens all over miami ALL THE TIME.
my girlfriend regularly sees a few chickens sacrificed by the canals on her way to work a few times each month.
all the santeria, espiritismo and voodoo ***** down here is insane.
im not going to even go into the amount of mercury bought and sold at botanicas down here that people use in charms and sprinkle in their homes and in their cars.
and if you think im full of ***** and you dont believe me - google it yourself. theres plenty of news articles online.
just recently they found a dead baby dolphin in a canal in key largo and they were wondering if it was related to a death's head they found in the canal along with it. a death's head is a santeria thing where they cut off a goat's head and stuff its testicles in its mouth and wrap it up in a bag and put it somewhere. its supposed to bring a death curse to someone. - oirvine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If there is a God, I think he would be disappointed in you. If he gave you the gift of life, I don't think he wants to just sit around and wait to go to heaven. If live a full, good life and don't harm others, you are safe no matter what happens.
- Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, see, the difference between atheists and Christians is that atheists don't believe in high powers.
Christians believe blindly in a high power that likes to torture people, and endorses murder of homosexuals or people of other religions, slavery, and exorcisms.
Now, obviously that doesn't apply to all of them. There are some perfectly sane Christians out there. But a terrifying number of them think like these people. And it scares the hell out of me. - Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm sorry to say it, but there's probably not going to be a life after this one. You have about eighty years, and I don't know how many you've wasted already.
The time of your existence is precious. If you spend your entire life waiting for heaven, you will pass into oblivion having accomplished nothing. Live. Appreciate the time you have, because you likely won't have a second chance.
Go out and live your life. Forget about heaven. You've got a perfectly good life right now... Use it. - lorisa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4My daughter is 3, and the thought of anyone doing something like this makes me want to vomit. Is it wrong that I'm glad the old man died?
- somaclast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sorry to reply again, I've just been feeling really sad and disappointed for you. You said "Why work for something that just fades into nothing?" and it saddens me greatly to see this mentality. When a composer creates a beautiful concerto, they don't just write it for the end. The ending is just an inevitable part, no more meaningful or important than the rest. In this way, life is like a musical composition; each subtle nuance and exhilarating crescendo is there for you to enjoy, IT'S AN EXPERIENCE. You are fortunate enough to be experiencing your own existence and you would throw it away if you don't get another one afterwards? If you think of life only in the context of a journey with point A and point B, and all you have to look forward to is reaching point B, (which may just be nothingness and not even a destination) you will continue to be disappointed.
- Neiby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It was da Debil. Da Debil killed him.
- Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You sicken me.
Exorcisms are an excuse to torture people who act differently. I have no sympathy for those who hurt the innocent, even if they do feed me some song and dance about them being possessed by demons.
I don't care if the exorcism is 'successful' or not. If I catch you, or anyone else torturing children, I will do my best to ensure that you are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
For the religious among you, pray this sick person does not have any children who might be unfortunate enough to try to learn another language. - michaelje0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3ahhh.... open-mindedness at it's best.
- xyzman29, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"There was no phone listing at Ronald Marquez's address."
I love it when they end an article with something so groundbreaking like this.... wow. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Crazy some people are that religious, i think it sends them into a mental trance where they go crazy
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Okay Diggers, if you ever have to witness an "exorcism" PLEASE videotape it!
