- UltraPenguinX, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19Blogging: because people really, REALLY care about your opinion
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -8/+19I can't believe people actually like bloggers.
- ThePixelator, on 10/10/2007, -8/+18Bloggers change the world?
HA! - UPGR4Y3DD, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13Yes! Let's unite for one day and talk about Paris Hilton! Then, truly anything will be possible.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6It's all a conspiracy to control the blogging community! More info on my blog (after the jump)...
- Gizzmo0411, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm not sure how many of you have read the book "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card, but the "Blog Action Day" discussion in this post reminds me of the actions that Peter and Valentine took on "the nets". By taking the Pseudonyms of Locke and Demosthenes they were able to gain a massive following on both sides of the political spectrum. By playing off of each other they were able to polarize the entire network system. It would be an interesting thing if the blogoshpere started taking on a more organized structure. Politicians may no longer be those men and women in suits that work in the big white buildings in D.C. They might be you and I, and your or I could be the 15 year old kid next door.
Exciting times...exciting times. - Niffer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6You're thinking of Fox, CNN and MSNBC. They talk about Paris Hilton all the time. See... on the internet, there is a blog for everything, so you aren't forced to get all Paris all the time. It's alright, common rookie mistake. Welcome to the internet.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wanna know who will change the world? Those who arent chained to blogs.
- kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ah, some enthusiasm. Nice and refreshing. We need more of that.
- Richandler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It was funny that the Colbert Report had a man saying bloggers are ruining the careers of objective professional journalists.
- Lister169, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4But blogs speak so much louder than actions.
- kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And did you notice how often he was booed? It was hilarious. That guy is the biggest hack stooge to ever be given an advance by a media corporation that didn't even publish his book. He could be outwitted by a sack of marbles.
- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think it's funny that I am mostly using my blog to repost Digg articles that I find interesting.
I also think it's funny that people are laughing at bloggers for expressing their opinions, yet very few people would have problems with them voting in elections. You can express your opinion, just don't elaborate on it past a vote?
I have subscribers/friends from all different walks of life, many of whom write things in their blogs I generally don't care much about. However, all of them have an interesting opinion on one thing or another and you'd be surprised that the person who only blogs about anime has interesting replies to my political posts, for an example.
It's nice to have an alternative to mass "everything", mass media, mass advertising, mass branding, you name it. - Gizzmo0411, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Good one...I"m insulted.
Point being...I think you underestimate the amount of people out there that blog in some form or another. Be it a myspace daily journal...or a full up news blog. That hot chick at that bar you haven't got the gumption to walk up to may in fact be the editor or writer of the technology blog that you read every morning over coffee. - Pyroteq, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you actually want to do something - Donate some time or money to a charity. I'm sorry, but sitting behind your keyboard writing a paragraph about poverty on your crappy blog that no one reads isn't going to change *****.
- Gizzmo0411, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My girlfriend blogs you judgemental clown. She's in the marines...she's in GOOD shape.
- bigjimslade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2
No they won't. Buried as inaccurate. - Smight, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5“If every blogger reading my blog instead of choosing to exercise their right to remain silent instead decided to spend just five minutes talking about poverty to one or two other individuals, poverty would be eliminated.”
Talk about delusional.
Maybe, If everyone reading my post would spend five minutes talking to someone about cold fusion the worlds energy problems would be eliminated.
"Awareness" is only productive when people don't know about a problem. With the exception of Marie Antoinette can you find one person that is not brain dead and also not aware that some people are poor? - ryancalderoni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1waste your time writing for free, lame
- returnofthemac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i love how people are trashing bloggers on DIGG.
does that REALLY make any sense to you? - chubbybubba, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6We can find unity in diversity. I don't want a world where everyone Decides what the single most important issue is. I want a blogoshpere that can recognize the importance that we are all different and there are many, many important issues that are important to different people. It is the Diversity of the issues that makes blogs important.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1bloggers seem to be some of the biggest bores on the web...
but for once i think theyre right - its like journalistic crusade on some important but ignored issue
sort of old school 'power of the press'
good luck to them
- Gizzmo0411, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What if that woman happens to be a blogger herself? She might just be interested in you...don't be narrow minded man. Nerds can find nerdy girlfriends too. And SURPRISE they might be happier than you with your hottie of dumb-blonde babe who likely couldn't spell b-l-o-g for a high school diploma.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Didn't think I needed /sarcasm tags on that...
- cgc2020, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I laughed out loud when I saw the title.
- drgmdp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1what kind of lame person uses "i blog" as a pick up phrase?
- Smight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Apple
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Otherwise know as the pat yourself on the back delusions of grandeur day.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1LOL...yeah what's his name.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Awww that's cute. What's his name?
- kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Blogs about cats and boy troubles are about 10 times more interesting than any drive-by negative digg comment.
- cmadach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OK... so bloggers take a day to talk about themselves and how they're God's gift to democracy. Great. Then tomorrow they all go back to Apple rumours, Top Ten Lists from six years ago, and how badly Bush is ruining America.
Oh, wait: that's not Bloggers, that's Digg. - fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I would never date a chick that blogs. My doorways are only 2 1/2 feet wide so there'd be problems from day 1.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Blogs: Changing the world one impression and click through at a time.
- sittered, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2If everyone united and talked about Paris Hilton for even five minutes, then those of us who didn't already know it was pointless would figure it out.
Also, Paris just might learn something about herself. - ericgonzalez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Fun idea, I'm in. The title is a bit melodramatic but I hope people see past that :)
- JackKnight9, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3yeah but that's everyday, this blog action day idea is just for one day and is about getting a lot of different angles and viewpoints on the same set of issues
In fact on the unity in diversity - they mention it in their FAQs - http://blogactionday.org/faqs - DinsdalePiranha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Blogging is great, because you can delude yourself that everyone cares what you say, when only about 0.001% of people who actually pass by do.
- ff4marvel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Get a real job.
- rgucci, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's not that SOME people are poor. A LOT of people are poor. Awareness that poverty exists is a whole lot different from awareness of the extent of poverty. And talking about it is not just to build awareness, it's also to build concern and hopefully enough motivation to do something about it within your own circle of influence, no matter how small that may be.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1If you unite thousands of bloggers, all you get is diversity, diversity will lead to arguments, arguments will lead to this and that.
Everyone has a different opinion, bloggers are no exception. - s0rce7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0even if it was, it wouldn't work... way to much freedom & flexibility in blogging for a united effort to tackle world issues to degenerate into a conspiracy to control the masses.
- s0rce7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You know what will really change the world everyone united.
- s0rce7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Of course there'll be diversity & arguments but so what ? It's a good thing to get people talking & debating topics it gets them thinking. I see it as a powerful tool which people can use that will make an impact. Is it the end all solution of course not but it is a good thing in my opinion.
- LordSalisbury, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I think we've seen the effects of media uniting in our televised news. I'd rather blogs stay individually focused and collectively chaotic.
- sofwarewizard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0never before in the history of man has there been such an approximation of "universal mind". Of course, there is going to be a lot of noise and useless facts, but I am excited by the internet moving to a series of conversations.
- Smight, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1LAME!?!?
That's going in my world wide web log! - 1337d0Od, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2great maybe they can thing of more ways to provide us with blogspam
- seraph582, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0"Bloggers Will Change the World"
buried as inaccurate - in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Cool article...interesting!
