- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+64I'll need a picture of you with a squirrel.
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53I'm willing to take part in that deal, but to help me feel secure about our transaction, I'd like you to send me some digital photos - or video - of you jumping off of the aforementioned bridge.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Craigslist is quickly becoming the "ghetto" of the internet.
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38I have this bridge for sale. You may have heard of it.
The Brooklyn Bridge. It will cost you 200,000 up front. And 200,000 a month after that. But you get to keep all the toll royalties.
Any takers? - Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Man, after reading P-P-P-Powerbook! today and this, I'm beginning to think that everyone on the internet is a scammer... *looks around paranoid-ly*
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Are you renting out a place? I'd definitely be interested!
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Deaf mute... classic!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Damn it, I clicked reply. Dugg down.
- despreocupado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19i'm interested.... but im Nigerian, and i cannot pay you the money directly, so if you could send me 2000 dollars, i could then.... :P
- crazynuj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20You are being dug down because:
A: Immigrants/immigration has nothing to do with this incident.
B: You do not provide and data/evidence to support your claim. - daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17It's sad to know that you really can't do anything against these people besides avoiding them. That really frustrates me. What if someone tried to scam you on the street for your wallet, failed, and simply walked over to the next person and tried again while you could do nothing but watch helplessly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21You're a moron.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I would have a hard time renting an apartment I hadn't been in before. I wonder how people really fall for this stuff...
- mariowario, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14^^lets not get too formal..a simple F-you or reference to a mental institute will work also.
- one1time, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17You're a douche bag. Your claim is pretty ignorant and you should be kicked out of the country.
- m1ss1ontomars, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15wow i live in fremont. and there is a deaf-mute school here.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11How many people send money gram first and expect something in return?? lol, they always try that scam on ebay for me, i will get messages " i am from france, i sent you the money see here is a scan of the money i sent" and it will be a photoshopped pic of a receipt haha yeah right. I just fake a package label and send it back and say " ok here i sent it"
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yeah, US citizens NEVER commit any crime.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@Xanadude
You're what's wrong with this world. I mean that. - lcohiomatty86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6to sum up the article: sad stories where the person requesting help wants an upfront fee.. is useually a scam.
- Snof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6phone book?
- toomuchgreentea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The concern is real, but can the story be fictional? Did no one question how the first guy gets to call her directly while the contact info wasn't hers?
- vajra918, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'll take that bet. Please send the money order to my broker @ P.O. box 12, Fremont, CA
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Notice:
The term "bog-standard" has been deprecated by the International Digg Comment Committee (IDCC) and we advise an immediate digg down when said term is spotted in the wild.
Reason:
Banned under the "In Soviet Russia..." clause of the "Tired of it Already" section of the IDCC's secret, invisible users manual that no one but me (err... I mean the IDCC) has seen.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's true. Even ignoring the scams, finding apartments in NYC has become harder on there thanks to brokers (who charge 15% of yearly rent.. which is usually around $18k-$60k) that put up two line listings and a picture of a tree. I feel so degenerate when apartment hunting on there.
- ThndrShk2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would assume phone book, or google.
Some people don't like internet communications. - dansued, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3interested person emails scammer, smells scam, looks up phone number in directory to check
- MYarms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What a great way to mess with someone you don't like.
- cherrick, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7And if the perpetrator of this scam is US born and raised, I suppose you would say that this is a good reason to sharply increase forced emigration of American born citizens?
- Talus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, I laugh every time I get a call/fax/e-mail from these scammers. But really, I should be doing something about it...
- Rivetgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Digg this up. Something is fishy. The scammer would have posted their own email, not her phone number.
@snof
Who is still listed these days? Most people under 40 dont even HAVE a landline nowadays. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stop insulting everyone and provide any evidence that immigrants cause more crime than US-born people.
- groundctrl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cute story. better this than the usual outrage story you get when people get scammed.
- FreddieD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Xanadude, you keep talking, I keep clicking thumbs down...
- ShadedSpriter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you ever leave america I am going to have you arrested for the assassination of JFK and possession of WMDs because you would be a foreigner and by your logic MUST of done it. *blocks.*
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha, I can't believe 64 people got that! You guys read Digg too much... like me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dugg down for using incorrect tense of "to digg".
- ophilye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, my block list is getting bigger all the time....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I don't get is, if the scammer listed all the info he/she had about the victim, why in the hell would he/she list the victim's phone number?
- thegcinfo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I work at Wal-Mart as Cashier/Customer Service and MoneyGram has a new addition to the send money paper in the form of a cover page warning about sending money to scammers and listing things that might be a red flag that the transaction could be fraudulent. However, in the case of this blogger that wouldn't have helped her anyways but I'm glad she caught the scam before some poor sucker got hooked out of a few grand. And I agree that I wouldn't rent an apartment or send someone money when I have never seen the apartment or met the person. I did have to sorta chuckle at the blogger's story though because the scammer definitely was a douche bag.
- wildetech, on 04/08/2008, -0/+0haha, hilarous!
- bubuq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't understand how your system works out there in the US. What can be easier than taking one e-mail and tracking it down to the individual sender, with cooperation of authorities and AOL, or whoever his provider was?
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Viva Diversity!
(oh, Xanadude... I dugg you down). - foodbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Bog-standard scam. Why is this here?
- AgentOrn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Well I have some ocean front property in Arizona that I'll sell you for a little bit of nothing.
- ideadude, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5This is my first comment of this kind, but... terrible title and desription.
The article is very funny. It's about a lady who's apartment was listed for rent by someone else on Craig's List. The lister was trying to scam people by asking for an up front payment.
It's funny in the article when the blogger refers to herself as a def-mute from California (the supposed identity of the apartment renter), but it's just confusing when it's carried over to Digg.
Still, funny (and possibly informative) blog post that people should read. - airmann90, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You wouldn't watch helplessly?
- miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Heh, I live in Fremont, CA
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I need one of you with a fish.
- CaffeineAddict, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@Akaji
