- Tamriel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I imagine that those are tattoos that you wouldn't regret once you get old. I mean, how many of your grandparents have a room in their house with trippy posters and blacklights? Plus no one would really notice them until you went into a club and your body started glowing under your shirt.
- CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13funny, my science teacher told me if feces glowed you could see the third world countries from space.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15From the page you linked to:
> The primary ingredient (in the dangerous glow-in-the-dark tattoos) is a product called EVERGLOW.
From Richie's homepage at http://www.tattooartists.org/Gal3975_UV_Blacklight_Ink.asp
> It DOES NOT contain EverGlow
Didn't you RTFAs? - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Really awesome, and I'm sure it's a godsend for people who work in jobs where they can't exactly have tattoos.
Plus, it kinda makes you look like you belong in the pages of X-Men - frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Hey, I've got a friend too! We have something in common.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm just happy that they finally legalized tattoos in my state. Yes, until this year, tattoo parlors were illegal in South Carolina. *sigh*
- CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7might be a cool way to add additional detail to existing tattoos that only shows up under blacklight. sorta like those disneyland portraits in the haunted mansion where it looks like a ship and then it changes into a ghost ship.
- voidofmind, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Just as cool as the first time it was posted. Easy to hide, too.
- mtnsoccerguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@CiXel
Just for your info, they do come in different colors. Check the Wiki article on these. dmsean posted a link. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Seems a really, really fun thing to do, but having the sore spots and redness after getting the tattoo would look pretty dumb at first. I'd rather not go for a permanent one of these, to tell the truth.
- oGMo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Call me back when they get e-ink subdermals. Programmable tattoos would be worth it; like Tamriel said above you wouldn't regret them later in life. You could just turn them off when you needed, and change them when you wanted.
Glowy ones would be neat too. Especially if they could be powered from your bloodstream. - jasonsfakename, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This would be a great alternative to the standard tattoo. Something you can hide but still is a part of you.
- mr.t, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2...
- CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i wonder if they have different color dyes though so they can glow in different colors.
- dmsean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What are you claiming this against?:
My source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacklight_tattoo
Just because the FDA doesn't approve something, doesn't mean it's bad for you. There appear to be claims from both ends here. Kinda like a hit of LSD or Ecstasy. Do you really know what you are consuming? Maybe in pure form it is fine for you -in controlled doses. Yes in uncontrolled sources with uncontrolled doses, it is more likely bad.
And if it was approved for testing, what's from saying they can't make one the FDA will approve? Maybe their is money on that patent! -pending - collinder, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1glad to see someone else in the business is speakin up.... bunch of ***** hacks just want a quick buck there willin to do anything to make it../.
- mr.t, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd bet that the itching is likely from the production of singlet oxygen, a highly reactive species that can form via oxygen quenching of fluorescence. Used to get fluorophores/phosphores on my skin in the lab and it would make me itch like hell until I washed them off.
- aashishsahrawat, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1This story has guts itself.

And basically everything else in the world. :P - tattooless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hi im still considering gettin a tattoo- i want to get a tribal scorpion on my right foot with the tail goin round the ball of the ankle or one on my right side of my back with the tail goin onto the back of my arm- does anyone have any suggestions
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Probably not a good idea to trust the vendor's website when seeking out health information. It is *not* FDA-approved for human use (only other animals), and never will be, as the FDA doesn't even regulate tattoo inks for humans (see my above comment). This is also why you don't find it on fda.gov.
- mtnsoccerguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The guy seems to think they are safe and he says he charges about 5% more for these tatoos because of the extra ink cost. They are actually visible for the first few months because of the scarring. After 10-18 months though, they are completely invisible under natural light.
- dc649, on 03/17/2009, -0/+0It's your body. It's your tattoo. It better be one-of-a-kind.
http://www.TheSmartBuyer.info/tattoos - scb0825, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2About 3 years ago, I was going to get one. I did a lot of research and found that a lot of people who get the "black light" tattoos, later complain about sever itching in the tattoo. Other people did not. I think these are wicked cool, and I would totally have one... if not for the possible forever itching. I don't have the time right now to research, and provide a link for all of you diggers... but the itching is true -- or at least it was 3 years ago. The ink could have changed sence then... good digg!
- ampa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So are they safe, and do they last as long as normal Tats, are they more expensive? I would like some more info please.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now if only they could use the same ink thats found on watch hands that glow in the dark :)
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I would love to get the x-ray type.
- d00by, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2my crazy science teacher told us theres growing evidence that glow in the dark/blacklight tatoos will eventually give you cancer cause of some radioactive somethign or other. But hey, he also told us that spies would start using geko feet material to scale walls and what not. Who knows... All i know is i'm not letting them put some sketchy ink in my body.
- maklershed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3If that stuff doesnt give you cancer I dont know what will.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I bet if you scratched hard enough you could get rid of your ugly face:)
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I wonder what happens if I get a sun-tan after having a UV reflective tattoo. I mean would it then be visible as the only areas not tanned?
- resist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1My girlfriend is a tattoo artistt, this kind of ink is TERRIBLE for you. Would you put strange glowing potentially toxic chemicals under your skin? Good tattoo ink comes from organic ingredients. Also, the extra ink cost is b.s. it costs the same.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think it's still important to note that those statements are very misleading. Chameleon ink has *never* been approved for humans by the FDA. It's been approved for fish and other animals. Also note that the FDA doesn't even regulate tattoo inks for humans. The approval for this type of UV ink means that the fish/animals that have it are still safe to eat after the ink has been applied.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well, hopefully except for Tritium, which is radioactive :)
https://www.expeditionexchange.com/luminox/indexmain.shtml - superalamar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1why ppl are thumbsdowning this comment I do not know, its true. Most shops will not do these because they are bad news medically. I have a friend too....
- Continuum, on 10/12/2007, -12/+10These tattoos can potentially be dangerous. The ingredients in many of them are meant to be used on metals, not inside the body. Also, it is believed to be a carcinogen.
If you do choose to get one of these, be informed before you do.
http://www.whitetigertattoos.com/GlowInTheDark.html - Continuum, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Actually, I did read the article. But admittedly, no, I did not go to the homepage that you posted as it was not the article related to this post.
Also, I never said "omg, do not get one of these, you will die instantly!". I simply gave a link to some of the possible complications that arise from UV Tattoos. Not everyone is going to to go to this guy for their UV tattoos and people should be aware of what side effects Everglow (Used in UV Inks by other artists) can cause in many cases. - frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I bet if you scratched hard enough you could get rid of the tattoo.
- LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It is FDA approved:
http://www.tattooartists.org/Gal3975_UV_Blacklight_Ink.asp
http://www.crazychameleonbodyartsupply.com/crazy-chameleon-blacklight-tattoo-ink-faq-main.htm - margaraeta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It's a great way to add to art I think. Gives another option if you wanted something alone or with an already existant tat. I have more a problem with getting flash than this...
- mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Yeah, that doesn't look stupid or anything.
- keikun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1wow, awesome idea

source:
http://www.bmezine.com/tattoo/uv005.html - collinder, on 11/21/2008, -10/+3just to let everyone know, no board of health in any state says that this is healthy... its not FDA approved... tattoo artists that use this ink are hacks.... and should slip in a puddle of aids and crack their heads open...
- ajimmykid, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4i doubt it would glow under a shirt
- da5idblacksun, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5A friend of mine has one of those.
