- Medusausi, on 10/12/2007, -16/+239My great-grandparents left Louisiana in the 1930's because of this foolishness. Has Louisiana still not yet caught up with the rest of civilization?
- RexDixon, on 10/12/2007, -13/+115Apparantly not!
- enclaved, on 10/12/2007, -9/+97When I was in school, the back of the bus was the cool place to sit anyway.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+93This is sad, hopefully all of this is going to end in the next generation of kids.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -21/+91Did you read the comments? unbelievable.
"Lets look at this for what it is, a bus driver made a very stupid decision. So lets not start drawing white/black sides"
Uh, I think "drawing white/black sides" is what the bus driver did. - Jesty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+73Well, you see, "Bus Driver Is Not Racist" is not news.
- kflott, on 10/12/2007, -12/+75As a resident of Louisiana, I must admit that I do unfortunately know many people who harbor racist attitudes... but I also know many people who look past the color of skin, so there is hope for change in the south.
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+61"A new solution reached Monday by School Board officials has a black bus driver driving across town to pick up the nine black children."
Mmmm... That's good segregation.
(For the dimwitted, I'm kidding. It isn't really good.) - GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -10/+56Actually, it's mostly what the media chooses to cover. They don't do stories about the little old white lady who mentors low-income urban black children.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+52Yes, because the best way to fight racism is violence.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -15/+55Remember children, it's only racism if whites are oppressing blacks!
- ravend, on 10/12/2007, -17/+55Because of America? Who are you kidding? America was the country that continued these practices long after the rest of the world stopped.
- Abrican, on 10/12/2007, -11/+46Its tolerated from both sides. Blacks as well as whites are still subject to racism, and probably always will.
- mwhitney, on 10/12/2007, -15/+49Unbelievable is the right word - it's just amazing to me that this sort of blatant ignorance still exists and is tolerated in America.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -10/+39This is BS. Read the article, it says she moved the older children to the back of the bus so she could put the younger children closer to her. I assume, in order to better supervise the younger kids.
My question would be, why have different age groups on the same bus? My son's school district buses run at different times so that high school, middle school and grade school don't share the same bus. They have to stagger the school times, but that shouldn't be a problem if it is organized correctly. (Older kids home before younger so the parents don't have to be home earlier than normal.) - GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Also note Japanese treatment of the Chinese around WWII.
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30@ravend
The slave trade still goes on in parts of Africa. google it. - def1, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33One is too many.
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29Solution? That should read:
"A new solution reached Monday by School Board officials has a cracker ass bus driver heading across town to look for a new job." - Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Canada interned Japanese too. Not that it makes it right, but it wasn't just America.
- cwalk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31Let me play devil's advocate.
Something tells me they aren't telling us the whole story. Those white children could have been younger or they could have disabled. While the story goes into detail about the black children, it fails to do the same for the white ones, which immediately raise red-flags on how truly accurate and fair the story is. Furthermore, there seems to be no attempt on the newspaper’s part at reaching bus driver Delores Davis for a comment.
To be clear I am totally against racism, but to give me one side of the story and not the other is definitely misleading. At least give me the other before I pass judgement. - BitSlash, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29actually it's poetic justice
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27What the hell? What year is it???
- rembrant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23That's so true! My experiance is that only teachers pet and other ass kissers sit in the front of the bus. Back of the bus rules!
- davebushe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25I believe the correct response a la the kid these days is:
WTF??? - scootinger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25I wouldn't be surprised if the black kids were coincidentally put in the back of the bus and their family assumed it was because they were black.
I hate it when the media can put such an inaccurate spin on things... - Reddog_x2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20@ There were grown men dressed up like cowboys down there. It pains me that there are still so many ***** southerners out there.
That's one of the most ignorant statements I've ever read on Digg.
Cowboy hats, boots etc are a traditional way of dress in parts of the south. It's no different than a grown man wearing a baseball cap and sneakers in the Northeast.
Why don't you just write "Me no like da way dey dress. Dey *****."?
I think you just showed who the real ***** is. - Sabakunoneji, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24The back of the bus may be cool to sit in, but not when you are forced to do so against your will, and especially if it's because of your race.
This bus driver is ridiculous, he does NOT deserve to keep his job nor get another job, and he gives all Americans, white or black, hispanic or asian, a bad name. - LCmidas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Go ahead and say that, while I (Caucasian and Cherokee) visit with my mixed race cousins and their black family members here in Louisiana. Every place has its dumbasses. Louisiana is no different, but to claim that an entire state is racist and uncivilized is untrue.
On a daily basis, thousands of people in Louisiana of diverse ethnicities peacefully coexist and work together, and they are much more likely to be kin to each other or close friends than in other areas.
We shouldn't be maligned because of a few bad apples. - RJNavarrete, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25What's funny is that more black people are racist nowadays compared to whites or other races. Sad, but true...
- jamie3033, on 10/12/2007, -14/+28-thanks to america Japanese people living in America were put in "american" style concentration camps
- xcheats, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19@ravend
Are you ***** kidding me? There are still third-world countries that practice slavery, so don't even try giving me this *****. - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19@jamie3033:
Yeah, the 300,000 Chinese beheaded because they were Chinese in NanKing DREAMED of American style concentration camps! The Chinese that were hung from posts and had their flesh sliced off while they were alive, and watched the Japanese feed it to their dogs, WISHED they were in an American style concentration camp. The Allied bomber pilots who were beheaded and had their livers served as appetizers with Sake, for Japanese military officers feel terrible about the American style concentration camps, and wish they could be tortured to death and eaten all over to make it better.
You Sir, are an ignorant loud mouth who has little or no understanding of what you speak. Kindly read a history book before you make reactionary judgments based on a snippet of information you heard between Emo songs on the radio last week.
dolt. - MakinBacon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19There are only two things I hate in this world — people who are intolerant of other people’s cultures, and the Dutch.
- differentangel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19I'm surprised this made the main stream news. Congrats on the parents for not letting this incident just blow over.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18"No Jews were gassed today no black people were sold - thanks to America."
Dude.... Britain and every other civilized country gave up Slavery LONG before the American Civil War.
You are a dumbass.... - heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Yes. Now ***** off.
- bosewicht, on 10/12/2007, -11/+21I think some mistakes may have been made, but i wonder whether the story is accurate. They do mention, that there were assigned seats on the bus, now maybe she assigned the black kids to the back, or maybe at the beginning of the year, all of the black kids ran to the back of the bus and sat together. Maybe, due to Katrina, there are a bunch of black kids that normally sat at the front of the bus are gone, I dunno. I find it hard to believe that some moronic bus driver would do something as stupid as this. Maybe I'm wrong though, who knows. I just know the media sometimes has a way of making something seem different than what it is, then retracting it on the 25 page a week or so later. I'll reserve my judgment for now . Lets see what comes out of this.
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"A new solution reached Monday by School Board officials has a black bus driver driving across town to pick up the nine black children."
wtf? - CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -20/+29"Unbelievable is the right word - it's just amazing to me that this sort of blatant ignorance still exists and is tolerated in America."
This amazes you, after Bush outlawed gay marriage? Don't anyone fool themselves, there's hate a' plenty to go around - steveoco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16i think it only seems racist because the children were moved to the back of the bus. Also since they are from the same family they sat on each others laps.
Does it make sense to make children from different family's sit on each others laps?
It seems this problem stems from not enough seating, not bigotry.
The nine children were moved back and sat on each others laps because they are family and that was the only way to fit all the children on board while keeping the very young children supervised.
Makes sense to me. I think it's just been taken out of context, also imagine the flip side of the story: Black bus, 9 white children moved to the back? Doubt it would make headlines. - uttles, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16The northeast is far more racist than the South. It's not even close. Most Southerners live with people of many different races and nationalities with no problems whatsoever. The real bigots these days are the people who perpetuate the myth that all southerners are racist hillbillies, but you'll never hear that on the news.
Here in the South we all live together and get along fine, whereas in the northeast they just round up all the blacks and put them in the ghetto. Then again, they've used that strategy of false freedom for about 140 years now. - aks123, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19I agree, white males receive the most racism out of everyone. I'm sick of white guys getting all this unfair treatment, like getting to be C.E.O's of corporations and comprising 90% of government offices!
Chris Rock once said that crying "reverse racism" is like Mike Tyson whining about how he has to fight with all the heavyweights. - drake89, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15while this is obviously an abomination, here in the southern US, racism is not a stranger. as stated before, blacks and whites are both subject to racism. this does not amaze me as Louisiana is considered by many to be the most racist of all the states. as for progress, i would say come down here to the good 'ole south and experience the progress. while there has been some progress, its still blatantly evident that Black's and other minorities still get the short end of the stick.
- origclubsoda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I agree - it seems like its being made a race issue when it could possibly not be.
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13they are being forced to the back of the bus, their votes aren't being counted...
who is screwing with the time machine? - canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20@ elnerdo,if you think white males are oppressed in any legitimate way, shape, or form in this country, you're out of your mind. don't believe me? look at the president, the congress, the fortune 500, the best universities, etc, etc.
you know what i'm sick of? white males bitching they didn't get a fair chance. buddy, the truth is if you were good enough you would get into that school and get that job. affirmative action isn't holding you back, your twisted view of life is.
for the record- don't let the pick fool you, i'm a white male - Mkizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6aside from the fact that it is against the law even it was white on white or black on black, 9 kids in two seats = something that happens in 3rd world countries...this is America and that is unacceptable. Its a safety issue and the race thing only adds to that.

"Hello,
I was reading some of the posts here and simply could not read anymore until I have said something.
First, my family and the Davis family are friends. The accusations that have been brought against Mrs Davis are unreal, unfair... and she is the one being discrimanted against! From some of the things I have read on this message board... most of you would put this woman in front of a firing squad if you were given the chance. I thought in our country.. you were innocent untill proven guilty..
I read a couple things about Rosa Parks. OK.. first, if it were true that Mrs Davis (the bus driver) had sent these kids to the back of the bus because they were black, I could see a problem.... but she did not! She was told to have a seating arrangment.. she had one... all the kids that rode the bus last year had to sit in the same seats they did last year... she was given 9 extra kids to ride on her bus... which put her 7 kids over the capicity of the bus! So my question... was this woman set up??? I ask that because nobody on the news or in the paper doing the reporting seems to be concerned with the fact that the bus was over filled... with kids... black and white.
My family moved here, to Louisiana from Texas 2 years ago. My kids started school in the Caddo Parish School District, and they rode the bus. Many times the bus was so over crowded that kids would have to stand up because there were no seats left. Black kids stood, as well as white kids. All I heard was black this and white that... ummm... hello... WHY ARE WE NOT CONCERNED WITH SAFTEY????? In the first week of school my 3 kids came home from school and I got my first real dose of how things are done here in Louisiana. I got bombarded the first week of school with many questions from my kids. Let me give you an example of some of the questions... what is a honkey? What is a cracker? Why are we going to be sued because I was not the last one in line? Why is *** going to have his dad shoot daddy because we are white? What have we done wrong mama?
I was ready to leave this state by the end of that week. I had many conversations with 2 of the princpals of the school my children attended. They were black. I did not care though.. I just wanted the comments to stop. Nothing was ever done. I did not fight because I did not want to contribute to this race crap. Time went on and the kids asked me one question after another, including what a "N*@#R" was. I had no idea what to say, but I gave them the best answer I could. Then they asked well if it is disrespectful, why do they call each other that? Well I would like to know the answer to that myself and I am not a child!
Back in my hometown you rarely heard anything about race. I heard more about race in my first month in Louisiana than I had heard in 20 years back home! After 2 years I am very, very sick of it. Now I am finally speaking!
Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and many others have been mentioned while Mrs. Davis is in the frying pan being forced into early retirement and all I am hearing is that it is race and where are the equal rights. Yes.. where are the equal rights? These black leaders fought for equal rights many years ago and they themselves won. They wanted blacks and whites to live EQUAL. How can we live this way if the facts are never looked at in cases like this? How can we be equal if we have to be a certian color to have certian services? How can we be equal if we continue to sue each other over things that should not have even started a problem to begin with? My kids sat in the back of the bus... ohhh Lord... should I sue? Should I fight the system because the black driver put my kids in the back? Sure why not. Take more money away from the school so the taxes will go up some more for us all, and put another person out of work as if the unemployment rate is not already high enough. No.. I will not take part in that. That is not what I am trying to teach my kids. But, that is what my kids are learning outside of my home. They learned at school that if you are black you can say discrimation and people stop in their tracks, but if you are white you will be made an example of. Now .. why is that not discrimation.. or better yet.. why is that happening if we are to all be treated equal?!
I read a line about the saying of "my people". Now I know for a fact that all who have read up to this point are assuming I am white. Am I? What do I checkmark on my applaction when applying for a job? Well I do not have a place to checkmark! Neither does my husband. The school registration does not have a checkmark box for our kids either! I look white.. yes this is true... but my skin is a lot darker than that of a white crayon thank you very much! So what am I? I will just leave you to wonder as far as my bloodline.. but I will tell you I am an American.. born and bred! So is my husband and so are my kids! And right now there is a lady over in Martin, Louisiana who has an American grand daughter who is on the phone with my American daughter, because she is scared due to some of the phone calls her family has gotten. Is this little girl being treated equal? Is her grandmother? After being forced into early retirement today I can say shes not! Many years of service have been put in by this woman, to many kids and their familes.. both black and white.. or white and black.. and this is what she gets. A good kick in the rear because of a racist princapal. If the princapal was not a racist, she would have stated the facts as to why the kids were at the back of the bus, and also stated that the bus was over crowded, as most are in this state, she would have also stated that most drivers have assigned seats. Now.. if we are truly concerned with the safty of these kids.. ALL OF THEM.. the black man who drove to get the kids off Mrs Davis' bus.. has been reported by students pouring alcohol into a cup while driving the bus. A black teacher Wednesday at Red River Elem. SPANKED a preschool girl, who was white..on the first full day of pre school! are we going to get the same media coverage, and will this black teacher and black bus driver loose their jobs to go stand in the unemployment line with Mrs Davis? I cant wait to see. I agree with the comment I read on here that black people hollar more than anyone else over everything and blow things up far past where they should be. Two years ago I would have not said such a thing, but I am being taught how things really are by living here. Maybe if my husband was black he could get a better job in this area and we could move.(yes I am being a smart a$$ now) We have both been told that employers have to hire a high % of black over white to stay out of court.. so I see where I stand as well as the Davis family and others here in Louisiana. Equal Rights? I dont think so." - megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Also from the comments:
"Blacks are known for false accusations."
"You mean there are white people that live in Louisiana?? I've driven down through there a jillion times and I just can't believe it. It's like a piece of Africa got shoved up America's rectum."
Not just unbelievable, but downright sad, too. -
