platypuscomix.net — Today's topic isn't clippings, though, it's even scarcer material. "The Complete Calvin and Hobbes" wasn't completely complete. Most of what you're about to see, you've never seen before. Stay tuned for...

- Firemeboy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+71You had me at Bill Watterson...
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Awsome! I never expected in my life to see another drawing or comic of Calvin and Hobbes that I hadnt seen before. This was a nice surprise.
The only thing is that I don't know why the guy felt like he had to scan the comics that he colored in himself... ego problem maybe? - No1nose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I love you Bill Watterson.
- airmann90, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12Anyone else read this as Bill Watterson's 'ARREST'?
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No, you need glasses.
- badave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bill Watterson. The name invokes wonderful thoughts of Calvin and Hobbes, possibly the funniest comic strip of all time, and invokes such melancholy. He has had so many fights for the integrity of his strip and he was so abused for it, I think he wishes he had never done it. It is tragic. While I wish for all that merchandise that could have been made for Calvin and Hobbes, I wonder at the same time if it would have really detracted from the strip's virtuous nature.
The whole situation is quite a bummer. Time to read some Calvin and Hobbes. - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Personally, I thought it said "RAPEST" which had me highly disturbed. I just think the title needed to include Bill Watterson. You bandy about worlds like "RAREST" and you might as well be talking about meat.
Come on... tell me that title isn't just a bad choice of wording:

Worst in red, blazoned across his name.
My mind's on that Jean Benet headline I 'spose. ;-(
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Awsome! I never expected in my life to see another drawing or comic of Calvin and Hobbes that I hadnt seen before. This was a nice surprise.
- petroK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30I really feel like I have "the ONLY UNREPRINTED CALVIN AND HOBBES STRIP" in one of the books... maybe not. cool to see his other stuff, I had no idea about his history in political cartoonery.
- Karnbeln, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah. I've definantly read both of those, and I've read nothing BUT reprints.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4karn beat me to it. I'd seen it before too, pretty sure it was from a book.
- pivot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think there is just a similair strip with calvin talking to hobbes in the machine - followed by a line about wishing his bath tub had a agitator - maybe not.
- gradenh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Learn more via Wikipedia. Some very interesting tidbits about Watterson's ideals.

There's even more information in the complete collection. - hurlothrumbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i think the original first calvin & hobbes collection had the "unreleased" strip, i had the book for years, and i remember that strip in it's entirety.
the other drawings are awesome to see though. - dnite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am 99% POSITIVE that i've read that strip before and I don't even have the complete collection, just most of the books.
- NerdyNinja, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1zomg not the OTHER Bill Watterson!!!11!1oneone
- DrunkenPirate34, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I thought it was Bill Watterson's Arrest. Hahah!
- RaistlinMajere, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I thought the same thing, that "arrest" was mispelled.
- gradenh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Me, too! Ha!
- threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12anyone else a member of G.R.O.S.S.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Despite the inherent humor in it all, I gave up G.R.O.S.S. a LONG time ago. I found it was counterproductive to fun.
- schleppo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm a member. The ring on my hand might say otherwise, but it's really just a facade to infiltrate the enemy. "Oh Gross, Best Club in the Cosmos."
- slickriven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Best Comic ever created. I wanted to cry when he stopped producing them... However, I have found my remedy, goComics.com runs his comics daily.
- santiago1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3
I sure miss Calvin and Hobbes...
(Yes, I have the 3-volume collection) - zumpiez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have all 4 of these strips in the books that I own. These AREN'T in the complete set?
- gradenh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Scroll down to the "washing machine" strip. That's the ONLY strip not included in the complete set.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you'd scroll through the whole page, you'd see a bunch of Watterson's work not seen elsewhere, including a few with Calvin and Hobbes in them, though they never went to syndication. There is one C&H strip on the page, not included in the collection, though it did go into about half of the newspapers before another one mysteriously showed up.
Now take another look at the page. I'm done regurgitating what's already there.
- digitalgreek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3its funny when i read things from other blogs and then 5 minutes later its on here...
- tehloxely, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2God I love these comics!
- gradenh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I also own the Complete Calvin & Hobbes. An absolute beautiful work of art! I grew up with Calvin and Hobbes, and consider them "friends" in a way.
- Ret0x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I too have read that strip that the author of the page claims to be the only strip not in any of the collections. Maybe Bill took the same gag and re-drew it later on?
Prior to releasing the complete collection I aquired the first 3 collections, attack of the deranged mutant killer monster snow goons and all of the horizontally-long books (The Days Are Just Packed and onward) So I've essentially go all of the strips... so I can't bring myself to spend so much money on something I already have in a less fancy package. - Thickey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Am i the only one to have read the title as Bill Watterson's Rapeist!!! ?
- umdigger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I saw one of Calvin pissing on a Ford logo the other day. I don't think that's in the complete set either....
- plutarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I'd like to take this opportunity to tell all the jackasses with the "Calvin pissing on [object]" and "Calvin praying to [Deity]" to take that ***** off your cars. Watterson would NEVER approve of such garbage, and you just look like a complete douche who totally missed the point of the C&H comics.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think those stickers are vulgar and tasteless. I saw another one, but it was a female. Basically, "Calvin" with a girl's haircut and a dress. It was squatting and pissing on [insert car company logo]. Tragic.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm really glad Watterson didn't license his creations. I have a feeling that it would've gotten out of hand, and it would just cheapen the innocence and charm of Calvin and Hobbes.
- diggumjonez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When C&H ended, his publisher sent out 1000 prints of the final comic (where they sled off into forever) to various newspaper editors that were always supporters of the comic. I purchased one of them and it sits on our wall, framed and gorgeous. Of all the art we have in our home, it is easily my favoritest.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4what ever happened to Bill Watterson? I don't want to invade his privacy, but it would be nice to know, since his work was a deep part of my childhood and I have so much respect for that
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From reading misc articles, it seems that he's gone into hermit mode. I get the feeling he just wants to leave it all behind.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Watterson - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5ditto. his wikipedia entry suggests that he has settled into noncommercial painting, and enjoying life with his family.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From reading misc articles, it seems that he's gone into hermit mode. I get the feeling he just wants to leave it all behind.
- JackOpfor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah i recognized all off those in books that i have, which were bought while C&H was in still in print. I remember buying a couple of them through book orders we had @ school in 3rd or 4th grade ('87-'88), It was great growing up with C&H, i have since moved onto the epic Doonesbury and others. sadly these days i donut see much on the main stream funny page that really interests me. Ted Rall (sinister leftist) and Max Cannon are my new favorites. I guess watterson was right about mainstream syndication strangling creativity.
- hobophobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His rendition of Ralph Steadman's style for that Target cover is amazing and pays a fine tribute to Steadman. I always liked Watterson, but that's just awesome.

My two favorites. - THEMACGOD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I read it as "Bill Watterson, THERAPIST" (for $400 trebeck...)
My GF bought me the complete C&H for xmas last year... if she didn't I was going to... but she's gotten a lot of bonus points for that one...
Best comic evar. - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the worst days of my life was the day C&H ended.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Easy life much?
- ArgyleCubist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From Wikipedia's Calvin and Hobbes page: "Many editors and even a few cartoonists, such as Bil Keane (The Family Circus), criticized him for what they perceived as arrogance and an unwillingness to abide by the normal practices of the cartoon business."
please tell me someone else laughed at that. Bil Keane criticizing ANYBODY is hilarious. - Muddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I recognize all of them. The one poster is the cover of of his book "The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes".
"The Complete Calvin and Hobbes" is probably no more complete than any of his other two dozen or so books, I imagine. Did anyone expect a four book set to contain everything all the others do. He's famous for using words like authoritative, indespensible, essential and complete in the titles to his books. The word probably refers to it's esoteric meaning as opposed to it's concrete meaning. I imagine if you purchase all his other books and spend a considerable amount of time cross referencing them you'll find more comics which aren't included in "The Complete Calvin and Hobbes".
