- OtherOne, on 01/14/2008, -2/+56i think it's 1st WW, At that time all were afraid of gas attack.
- antonio97b, on 01/14/2008, -8/+59It's to keep Dick Cheney contained as an infant.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -4/+36I think it's a baby smoker. mmm, smoked baby.

- Ibox, on 01/14/2008, -0/+27I want my baby back ribs.
- OwdenBowden, on 01/14/2008, -3/+27When cooking babies - you want the meat to stay tender as it arrives at your guest table/ house. That is why we provide the Baby-Smoker portable transport when you order. Act Now!
- Matt2k, on 01/14/2008, -3/+21It kind of looked like a baby smoker. Love that hickory flavor!
- Lavarock, on 01/14/2008, -0/+17It's not FOR radiation. It's actually for gas.
- KingBabi, on 01/14/2008, -0/+11Replying just because I like the way it looks in the comment hierarchy.
- Lavarock, on 01/14/2008, -1/+11It's for gas, but really, a gas mask WILL help. There is an intermediate dosage between "Solar flare" and "background radiation", and the gas mask will prevent alpha particle emitters from entering the lungs. Then the thick clothing will stop beta particles from passing through the skin. It helps, even if it isn't perfect.
- edwartica, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8Whatever it is, I am not changing its diapers!
- coheedcollapse, on 01/14/2008, -1/+9Why sir. The proposal you make is quite modest!
- Lavarock, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7aahhw
no, just no - j4200, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5This photo is from England. They were constantly under threat of gas bombs flooding their streets with poison. Now imagine that terrorists came along and started gassing seemingly random cities near you. Would you want to leave yourself unprotected? This imagination exercise is called seeing it from their perspective. It can offer a lot of insight to many conundrums.
- exomni, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Oh come on! what lengths people will go to just to live without changing its diapers!
- Gir53457, on 01/14/2008, -3/+6You must have a miserable life.
- Terr01, on 01/14/2008, -1/+4I'm sorry, but digging you down in the first thing that pops into to mine.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3*deep voice* and barbecue sauce
...or maybe babycue sauce? - Bakerer, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Haha ...and here is a photo of me along with an Anti-Atomic baby!

- countingthedays, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Your average citizen then wasn't gassing anyone. Isn't it obvious why they would want to protect themselves?
- kcen, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3someone set up us the baby...
- j4200, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Back then people didn't have all the gadgets we do. They actually got out of their house quite often and were considered wacko if they stayed indoors all day.
- j4200, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Why do you thread the top comment with something completely irrelevant to to dp's insight? Funny though. I would've dugg you up for the dead baby shot, but I absolutely do not approve of comment hijacking. It's a plague on digg. Post on the top level if your comments do not pertain to whom you're replying to.
Think of a 12 year old little girl who can't stand not being the center of attention. Now imagine the things she does to get that attention. Standing in the middle of people. Nagging people until they talk to her. Going on and on about things that people don't care about just so that she is heard. If she were to use digg, comment hijacking is most likely one of those things she would do. Simply put, you're acting like a 12 year old attention starved girl by doing such. - edwardbc, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2That's Rossie O'Donell's, you can tell from the chimney of the kitchen inside her carriage.
- ryan83189, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2ha ha ha!
- edwardbc, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Buried, just in case that doesn't happen.
- Ramble, on 01/14/2008, -1/+3How stupid can you be to not realise most of the radiation risk from the bomb comes from isotopes and dust in the air that you inhale?
- stephenjames716, on 01/14/2008, -1/+3why would you risk it to walk the baby?
- j4200, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Gas masks don't protect you from radiation exposure. This is absolutely because she is trying to protect her child and herself against gas based attacks. I think the OP said atomic baby because he is inaccurately associating the cold war to this era.
- rogue780, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2Baby back ribs anyone?
- eatbeefjerky, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1This is a picture of a woman wearing a gas mask walking her baby in a "gas mask" pram. Very common during WWII, or so I'm told. The mismatched socks and shoes are probably a byproduct of "coupons" and rationing.
- 4LeggedtriPod, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Even with the horrible spelling that was hilarious.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -3/+4wake up mr. freeman, it's a boy
- duckyinc, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2yes atomic bombs do give out beta and alpha radiation and leave out gamma for the fun of it, she has her leg exosed ..
- Terr01, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1I'm going to guess chemical warfare scares (not unfounded) during WWII in Britain.
- duckyinc, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2Ever though that only one nuke was used in ww2 and it might be sarin?
- danconia, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2Baby do the dog catcher, baby do the dog catcher. DOG! Ooooh!
- duckyinc, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1sorry 2 in japan though..
- j4200, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1OP played too much Fallout haha. Great game but the age that the Fallout America is modeled, the golden age, took place during the 20's to mid 40's. The threat of nuclear attack being set in American's minds didn't actually happen until later in the cold war, during the 50's and 60's. Classic photo's do not mean atomic. The gas mask also seems to be the style that the British Government handed out to civilians during such dark times. I don't recall learning anything about the American's doing this. This photo is most likely set in England.
- Tyrghast, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2I thought this machine is how dick cheney will be reincarnated, leaving his mortal coil to become the full blown stepson of satan...
- majehire, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Odd, but not interesting
- Dp76, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1j4200, by the way, your comment do not pertain to whom you're replying too :)
- Terr01, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1How stupid can you be to think the person in that picture is wearing it because of a fear of nuclear war?
- LeeSoong, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Oh, that is just normal for taking your child on a walk on a Downtown L.A. '' Ozone Action Day '',
please hold your breath over the weekend! - inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Delicious.
- TheAmbushAhead, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1omg buried photo is sooo old
- countingthedays, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Well, its a little radioactive air vs. suffocation.
You're right, I hate kids too. Suffocation it is. -
