- Godlesswanderer, on 10/11/2007, -12/+384That looks like total gibberish to me. Which is worrying because I have a maths exam tomorrow.
- tidu, on 10/11/2007, -6/+313Is there an audio version for the blind?
- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+236Isn't the point of a captcha to prove you AREN'T a computer?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -18/+212It's 42.
- Hayes, on 10/11/2007, -6/+150THIS is the best CAPTCHA:
http://xkcd.com/c233.html - BHSPitMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -10/+145Rabbethan:
Sounds like you should have guessed something closer to 100. - Gatesophile, on 10/11/2007, -1/+136If MySpace used this they wouldn't have any users.
- Barman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+127I hope you're right, cause I have a hard time figuring out regular 1 word captchas.... :
- joeconway, on 10/11/2007, -18/+128i had to look up what a captcha was.....is that shameful?
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -5/+97Ran out of edit time.
I think the answer is ln(2) or about 0.693147 - Scruffydan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+92and the absolute worse captcha is:
http://www.scruffydan.com/blog/?p=120 - L4WL3RS34L, on 10/11/2007, -4/+96Capthchas are to make sure you're a human. If you can solve that, you're probably a computer.
- TheAkolyte, on 10/11/2007, -1/+84I thought he was talking about pokemon.
- stephenwq, on 10/11/2007, -7/+87@Rabbethan: You have 42 diggs.
- nexterday, on 10/11/2007, -21/+100Yes, and if you digg him down, but you wanted to digg him up (as I did) you can digg THIS post up instead.
- iofthestorm, on 10/11/2007, -13/+81Quick everyone digg him down till he has 42 again!
- rejoined, on 10/11/2007, -2/+67That's probably a captcha for high profile mathematicians and physicists leaving comments at a "geeks gone wild" website.
- juancn, on 10/11/2007, -28/+91Great find! BTW, the answer is 2. (Couldn't resist the urge to solve it, but who knows, I might be wrong)
- voldak, on 10/11/2007, -8/+68Same here man...i thought he misspelled "capture" and it was some kind of screen shot....but, I'm retarded.
- elnerdo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+56Speaker, in Britain, they say 'maths' instead of 'math'. Godless wanderer must be British.
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -7/+61ln(2) I think.
To dredge up some College calculus...
"What does this equation go towards as X goes towards zero?"
(1/x) goes towards infinity
sin() of anything will lie between -1,1 in radians
Assuming arctg() is atan(), it approaches 0 as X hits zero.
The 2 is the only part that ends up mattering, since the rest of it is multiplied by zero and then square-rooted.
Since that's surrounded with natural log, 122 - BigKoala, on 10/11/2007, -2/+54http://www.google.com/search?q=ln%282%2Bsqr%28arctan%280%29*sin%281%2F0.00000000000000000000000001%29%29%29
Thanks, Google. - Octtopsy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+52There was once a captcha that asked for my credit card number.
- telair, on 10/11/2007, -7/+53Mirror

http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=426299592&size=o - retral, on 10/11/2007, -5/+49Meh, why doesn't anyone have a sort of "hot or not" captcha? It's basically easier for the user, plus if they get it wrong you can mess around with them and say like... "Natural selection chooses you."
- Rabbethan, on 10/11/2007, -238/+280Might be a little off topic, but once in highschool I had a math exam I didn't study for so I put 42 for all the answers. The teacher gave me a 42%.
- Comatose51, on 10/11/2007, -0/+42Implemented:
http://www.evilcon.net/wordpress/wp-login.php?action=register
Doesn't work that well but it does cut down on a lot of simple spam bots registering on my site. A few still gets through. It went from 2 spam bots per day to about 2 per week.
It's implemented as a Wordpress plugin. I've email Randall Munro for permissions to upload it to the Wordpress Codex but he hasn't replied. - kirakun, on 10/11/2007, -5/+43The correct answer is that the limit is undefined. To be more precise, it depends on the region of definition. If it is in the complex plane, then yes the limit is ln 2. However, if it is just the real line, then no the limit is undefined.
It seems like it should be ln 2 because the expression inside the sqrt approaches 0. However, the rigorous definition of limit requires that for all epsilon > 0 there exists a delta > 0 such that for ALL x with |x-0| < delta we have |entire expression - ln 2| < epsilon. However, this cannot be true since the expression inside the sqrt fluctuate between positive and negative values infinitely. Hence, there will always be a value arbitrarily closed to 0 such that the sqrt is undefined (unless we are working in the complex field). Hence the limit is undefined if we are strictly in the real field. - joshmoney, on 10/11/2007, -5/+39If MySpace used this I wouldn't have any friends.
- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33Gotta captcha 'em all!
- andykee, on 10/11/2007, -7/+38the answer is 09 f9 11 02 9d 74 e3 5b d8 41 56 c5 63 56 88 c0
- CYR1X, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33This makes me feel retarded.
- Rabbethan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29Good to know my comment had some use to you all.
- Anderue, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28Or teh English.
- Ricapar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30It also doubles as an IQ test to keep dumb trolls off your site!
- xperienc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart.
- FreydNot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23My wife doesn't think all humans would answer yes. I think she might be a cyborg.
- Nimsim, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27Uh yeah, i accidentally digged him up. Someone ***** him up plz
- PhillipJFry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21The best captcha is the anti-human one in Futurama:
Robot Guard #1: Which of these would you prefer? A. a puppy; B. a flower from your sweetie; or C. a properly formatted data file? Choose!
[Fry and Leela discuss in whispers]
Fry: Is the puppy mechanical in any way?
Robot Guard #1: No. It is the bad kind of puppy.
Leela: Then we'll go with that data file.
Robot Guard #1: Correct. The flower would have also been acceptable. - mwsherman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Does anyone know what website this is from?
- ri0026, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20math shmath. i captcha'd a level 63 charizard with a GRASS TYPE. eat it, nerds.
- foltaggio, on 07/11/2008, -1/+20You mean 455FE10422CA29C4933F95052B792AB2, right?
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20@retral
They do. - mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17The best one I ever came across was "FAGZNME" not even joking.
- Fracture98, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Came across? Freud would have a field day (or perhaps a "camping holiday") with that one.
- BHSPitMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Sounds like one of those captcha's that filter out minors. I think I read about those somewhere.
- ikzeidegek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Solution:
atan(x) * sin(1/x) goes to zero as x goes to zero. This is because the sine is bounded by 1 in absolute value, and atan(0)=0. Therefore, the answer is ln(2) by continuity of the square root function.
The fact that sin(1/x) does not possess a limit as x approaches 0 is immaterial to this question; it is not necessary to apply the L'Hopital rule. - nexterday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11@Comatose51
I apologize, I accidentally dugg you down when I meant to digg you up because I am bad with mice. I'm not sure if there is a way to undo that, but seeing as how it's all grayed out now, I've decided it's just easier to let you know that your score should be 2 higher than it is. - 11011, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10^ myspace should use this!!
... and if we have newegg ship the technology it can be installed last year -
