- blorc, on 10/10/2007, -7/+116Ugh, that's heartbreaking.
- omegadude, on 10/10/2007, -13/+81at least they're using the glue for sniffing; i remember when i was in school, all the dumbass kids would eat the glue...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+66It's product placement.
- john2kx, on 10/10/2007, -5/+63That's nothing... the crazy kids at my school would use it to stick things together... i mean, wtf?
- saladinzero, on 10/10/2007, -11/+61You're saying that orphans, trapped in a spiral of poverty and substance abuse brought it on themselves?
That's the most inhuman thing I've heard in a long time. - pilotss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40They use the cans as storage. They are not buying the Coca-Cola.
The glue is cheaper than food and lasts longer. The glue costs pennies and lasts for days. When you are on the glue it numbs hunger and cold.
The kids roam in packs and there was a half generation that slipped between the cracks after the collapse of the East economies. The East is coming on strong economically and the next generation will not have to live like this as more money for programs is available but there are still sad faces living in parks and streets. It will never go away as any industrial nation can attest no matter how much funding there is, there are always kids on the street. - shyner, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42From January 4th. As sad a thought as it is, I wonder how many of them are still alive. It makes me sad that children in the world have to live like that.
- zlintux, on 10/10/2007, -2/+39For practical purposes, 1 metre is about 1 yard, or 3 feet. So that'd be 300 feet below ground.
Many European cities, especially the older ones (eg, Bucharest), are known for their rather impressive and elaborate underground tunnel systems.
Next time, spend 2 minutes on google before making accusations - Spamcan, on 10/10/2007, -8/+45Most people who see this will feel really ***** for about 5 minutes and then go back to bitching about their iPods. Use this as an opportunity to realize how lucky you are to be sitting on your fat ass reading digg instead of starving to death in a hole somewhere.
- Niffer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27Seriously. Some little rich girl's pony was killed to make that glue and they waste it up their nose.
- Gzero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25All you did was make me curious :|.
- gerbalblaste, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23The glue is mostly from cobblers, its either given to them or they scrounge it from the trash. It alleviates hunger pangs and makes them feel warm.
- abid786, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23They probably drink whatever they can get their hands on.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24As a former Romanian Street Kid I must say that the lives lost over getting that glue wasn't worth it
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22how did you come up with 1100 feet? that is really wrong
my god thats just you couldn't be anymore wrong - chingy1788, on 10/10/2007, -16/+35wonder how much coca cola paid to get their product in there
- Hels, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23I'm going to assume that none of the "children" in that situation are posting in this thread. So, for the rest of you, who feel that comments about it being their choice are inhuman...do have factual evidence of why they are down there? Can you say, without a doubt, that they have been living that lifestyle since they were toddlers, rather than just over the last few weeks? Hell, can you even say, without doubt, that they actually live there as opposed to it being something akin to their "clubhouse"?
Or, are you just assuming what you want based on a photograph with no contextual reference around it? - bmson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18This was on 60 minutes 4 years ago.
- abid786, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Have you met, and talked to, every single of of them?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Is this one of those spot the coke bottle ads? Cause I kick ass at those.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+18The perfect Coca-Cola ad.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11At least they're bonding down there together.
- repete, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Huh? Did you see a link to a story that I missed, or are you making up the context? You think they chose to sniff glue? Substance abuse is most often turned to to get away from one's own ***** life. I doubt they chose to have a ***** life to have to turn from...
- bmc31190, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16Its horrible that some people are nearly forced into this sort of life. You know none of them wanted to grow up to live 300 feet beneath the surface sniffing glue, pissing in coke bottles.
- HouseofEl, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15I love how people are saying "It was their choice". Because these kids had all the opportunity in the world to make something of themselves? People that think your entire life is made up of your own choices are the same ***** that probably still believe a black person should sit in the back of the bus. Life isn't and never has been under your control folks. We don't always get to choose.
- charlesray, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13At least they have Coca-Cola.
And pants. - firedrillduckie, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16I can't believe how inconsiderate some humans are.
It sickens me. - Apolloi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Either way, it wasn't funny.
- gerbalblaste, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Most of those children don't have a choice. They are poor, many orphans, without state or private agency to care for them they do what they have to to survive.
I hope you enjoy your trolling. - SushiCW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Simple. You don't know any better until you're addicted.
- dugee81, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8i believe they're "huffing it", typically inhaling the chemical in deep breathes.
- kelly, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Where does it say that they are orphans?
- Mononuclear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7you know google has a built in converter?
- catalysis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Ah yes, use other's suffering to feel better about your life. Well at least they accomplished something.
- zombies187, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Homeless kids sniff glue to stave off hunger pain.
- rstarr, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Are you serious?
- zombies187, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Sniffing glue keeps hunger pains away. Thats why homeless kids are often high on fumes.
- joot2112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6pipipie: what you don't get is that in Romania, there is an overabundance of desperate people who are already volunteering to work for ***** pay to do all the ***** jobs. Unlike your wonderful fantasy world, just because you WANT a job doesn't mean there IS one. On top of this, the stigma of being homeless and unemployed, dirty and smelly prevents most employers from taking you on. AND most people will hire an adult over a KID.
- cros, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12So other, more mature posts are dugg down but *this* post currently has 9 diggs? wtf people.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm not going to digg you down, but what you sad was like a DON'T CLICK HERE button.
- etcimon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9On the first sight they look so miserable. In my not-so-long ago teenage life, we usually called these places a hideout, a place where parents can't stop you... Or on fridays and saturdays, some stay there for some sort of sleep-over. I'm not saying there's no reason to worry about their brain cells.
- thecompkid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, you said that, and my knee-jerk reaction was *select name* *ctrl-c ctrl-f ctrl-v*...
- DrinkPaint, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5There is a documentary about this. It's called Children Underground.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264476/ - kelly, on 10/10/2007, -12/+17How is that stupid?
They wanted to sniff glue and not have to answer to anyone. They found the place to do it. - rudy23, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9wasnt that bad. stop beng a drama queen.
- colto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Don't be an ass. He was being genuine. At least give him credit for that.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7as is the case with many of the poor and desperate; if you can't change your reality, you alter your state.
- Doorfingers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5yeah, try about 330 feet, bud. not quite 1100 feet.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7i see what you did there
- iskatebad914, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4where is the story? i want to know more about these kids.
