Well obviously! What else would you pic(k) a lock with? - ratboy4001, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40Not much of a guide. Not once does it teach you how to really pick a lock. Its a bunch of prep and then go with no further explanation except to go back to step one and two which are just as useless as the rest of the steps.
- abstracthuman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39This guy needs to read the beginner's guide to writing beginner's guides.
- AdamTReineke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32I like this guide: http://www.locksport.com/LSIGuide/Launcher.html
And, of course, the MIT Lockpicking Guide: http://www.capricorn.org/~akira/home/lockpick/ - jlmillstein, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28Just what I needed
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17There is a Master Lock on the fence for the football field at my school. Every day for a week, I would pick the lock and put it in odd places.
Until I got caught. - shinda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15and that my friend is why you are the master theif...
- ncc74656m, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Why do you tempt me, Satan?
- jalexhall1989, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Well you could spend a few hours learning how to pick locks, or just use bump keys. http://youtube.com/watch?v=XQDR-DBQRfI&mode=related&search=
- kuhlmeye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9i love the elder scrolls
- RyanBlueThunder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Just get the skeleton key from nocturnal... /okay i'm a nerd

- Lane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This time when the insurgents come for me I'll be ready. Thx Digg!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Don't forget your tennis ball
- flamingmb, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9or you could use one of these: http://digg.com/videos/educational/How_To_make_a_Bump_Key
- rejoined, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://duggmirror.com//offbeat_news/Beginners_Guide_To_Lock_Picking_w_pics/plain.html
- ltkerr0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They don't work on all locks
- outhouseinput, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5You should have submitted this article. DariusMonsef is mentally challenged.
- 30thElement, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4No, really? I thought he just forgot the "k".

- TequilaCollins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The job of a locksmith isn't just picking locks. Actually, that only accounts for about 5% of the job. The rest is installing, repairing, or re-keying locks.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Much better. http://home.howstuffworks.com/lock-picking.htm
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They should always be your first attempt though.
- evildeadguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Now I can finally get my hands on a Wii.
- geoffpado, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But for a lot of people, lockpicking isn't for breaking into things (imagine that!), but rather for the fun of hacking. Which is why hackers are held in higher regard than "script kiddies".
- SpaceDreamer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that is the creepiest website I have seen for weeks.
polls: "which is your favorite Glock ?" "What Is The Best Revolver Manufacturer?"
yuk - shablog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3site down...mirror anyone?
- gnu154, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Lock-picking instructions on a firearms web site? Nothing good can come of this.
- Bumblebee418, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I thought this was going to be cool till I opened the site and saw there were multiple steps and needed purchases, etc.
My attention span is no where NEAR long enough to learn how to actually pick a lock, let alone purchase the needed tools.
Damn. - dacheetah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No need, there are better links all through the comments.
- Narfmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2News just in, jlmillstein steals Digg's gold reserves!
- TequilaCollins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you want a lock that's almost impossible to pick, get one with a sidebar system (extra cuts on one side of the key). Very, very few people can pick these.
They can however still be bumped, but the only way is to get a blank key from the exact same locksmith that keyed the lock you want to get into and make your own bumpkey. This is because the extra cuts on the side are pre-cut at the factory, with each locksmith getting blanks that only fit his locks and no other locksmith's.
Nothing is 100% secure, but sidebars come close. NOT cheap though. You can expect to spend $50-$200 a lock. - DamnMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You must not have seen the recent video posted here on digg about bypassing the slide bar on a Medeco lock with a paperclip...
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/19/the-lockdown-the-medeco-m3-meets-the-perilous-paper-clip/
And Medeco's responce
http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2007/08/medeco - magnetic2008, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1If you really I mean like really want to break into something, The best guide, by far, is the one published by MIT.
- identifiedlogo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1bettter, http://home.howstuffworks.com/lock-picking1.htm
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2scroll down to the bottom of that page:
"My first recommendation is to read the MIT Guide to Lock picking by Theodore T. Tool."
Theodore T. Tool!?! made me chuckle. - mattnyc99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How about the EXPERT'S guide to lock picking? http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/research/4220246.html
- randy1294, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you really I mean like really want to break into something, which is the same as picking a lock, save some effort and buy a crowbar. The bigger the better. It's pretty much guaranteed.
- 5JimBob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1or they'll do what they did to me and beat in the door. IThe bastards could've just broken the window next to the door and saved me some money.
- Shiggidy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3You must either have really shaky hands or not a high amount of fine motor skills as I picked (heh) up lock-picking a few summers back with a small allen-wrench and and a screw driver and was able to pick most of the doors in my house in a couple of days. It's very possible that I just am lucky and/or have a knack for it though. If you actually take apart a lock and look at the inner-workings it really helps to visualize what you're doing when you're picking it. If you take apart a lock and just practice raking in your spare time it should come easier to you after a while once when you get a technique down. Needless to say, I've gotten new locks on the main doors of my house and will keep them until I manage to pick them, in which case I'll buy more challenging locks. ;p
- DavidGX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Now all I need is those $300 burglars tools.
- dacheetah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My lockpicks are already pretty much unbreakable, but I'd like the +40 to security skill. (Not to mention the fact that the game is paused while you pick the lock, whereas in real life if you've been spotted by a cop and he's running towards you, you are not likely to be able to pick the lock before he gets to you.)
- tseif0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nerd.
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Perfect for that next capture by those pesky insurgents indeed.
- madhaha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dugg but mostly for the comments. The article itself is a pretty lame rehash of some old textfiles/articles.
- skyfyre, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"And now the moment of truth; you're ready to pick your first lock. Basically, just do what you learned back in step1 and step 2."
Step 1 is about buying a lock, and Step 2 says "remove all but one pin" and nothing else. Nothing about HOW to pick a lock, or remove a pin. Buried as INACCURATE. - Skooma714, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've been trying to pull this off since like the 8th grade. Never have been able to.
- ch33zewhiz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just play oblivion for about a hundred hours and you'll have no problem.
- sparrowkc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Someday, somebody will try and rob you. They will walk up to the /front door/, see that it is permanently locked, say "Oh *****! I've been outsmarted!", and walk away exasperated.
