"The majority of people may have little or no reaction, even to stronger forms of the drug. But for the 10-20 per cent of those who are considered to be vulnerable, taking it could lead to psychotic illness."
Psychotic illness? From marijuana?
I think critics are more concerned that people will see nothing bad happens to her and suddenly everything they''ve been spewing for the last 40 years will seem like a lie...unless we're not talking about marijuana? we're talking about pot right? Or does injecting cannabis yeidl different results?? I don't even smoke weed. - firstpost, on 02/26/2008, -0/+40We've actually got a show like that in the Netherlands, it's called "Spuiten en Slikken" (means something like "Shoot-up and Swallow"). The presenters try all sorts of drugs. I don't actually watch it regularly, but it's a reasonably successful show. One of the presenters does experiments with drugs, and another one does experiments with sex.
- BuzzLightyear, on 02/26/2008, -1/+34More Daily Mail "the sky is falling" crap.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+26I can't believe that's the type of television you get in the Netherlands. Awesome.
- DjViral, on 02/26/2008, -2/+26Should I Smoke Dope?
well it doesn't hurt to, so make your own decisions. - JackHererUK, on 02/26/2008, -1/+23This is the Daily Mail folks for all you Diggers outside the UK it is a well know for its reactionary, bigoted, populist, ignorant reporting. If you were to believe the Daily Mail the entire of the UK is doomed because of drug taking, lesbian, asylum seeking, immigrant, single mothers who are simultaneously taking all the jobs and sponging from the welfare state.
- willrs, on 02/26/2008, -3/+23smoke weed every day
- waffleface, on 02/26/2008, -4/+24I do smoke. There's a lot of exaggerations, but the psychotic illness thing is a hot issue. While it's been shown that it won't likely CAUSE any new illnesses, several studies do show that it will increase a latent risk (say, from a family or personal history) of things like schizofrenia. I think it was the Danish army that held a massive study over ten years on a number of smoking recruits.
- KSpark, on 02/26/2008, -0/+18Why do we still have to deal with BS like this? We've been smoking pot since the ***** neolithic age, I think we would know by now that it's not that bad.
- firstpost, on 02/26/2008, -0/+16Yes, you missed that Nicky's a She
- Scrappy1850, on 02/26/2008, -0/+15but you can still record a great album
- capiCrimm, on 02/26/2008, -4/+19No. That's one of their ***** pseudo-science lines. It's playing hard and fast with the facts. Do you realize 75% of traffic accidents happen when people are sober? Support DUI's! Support Safety!
- xB4R7x, on 02/26/2008, -0/+14There are very few health risks associated with the consumption of marijuana... besides the obvious that is. Yeah, smoke in the lungs is never good for you... but pot smoke is much less hazardous than cigarettes. The only thing wrong with pot is that it's illegal.
- Aceanuu, on 02/26/2008, -1/+14"Nicky has not suffered any ill effects since filming finished. The film unequivocally highlights the risks of consuming the drug and will be scheduled post-watershed for a BBC3 audience."
Am I missing something or did they basically say that he isn't suffering any effects after filming... isn't that kinda sending the wrong message, or at least contrary to the show. "oh yeah, its 'bad' at the time, but afterwards you're fine- *****! I mean you're in hell with a hangover!" - steveoco, on 02/26/2008, -0/+13I think a good way for people to be educated about drugs is to see the effects first hand on a normal person (sober). Most of the peopel get about drugs is third hand urban legend *****... I am all for people experiencing on camera to educate people.
- gannnnon, on 02/26/2008, -5/+16Legalize it, or don't. Either way, I'm still sparkin' up.
- spyd3rweb, on 02/26/2008, -1/+11If you hate drugs don't do them, leave those of us that don't have problems with them alone.
- MrFrankly, on 02/26/2008, -0/+10Funny enough. It's a show broadcasted on a public channel. In other words we're paying tax to have people experiment with drugs and sex and broadcast it live on telly.
- leexy, on 02/26/2008, -2/+12Welcome to the Daily Mail! Please leave all critical thinking, common sense and fact-checking at the door.
- plingboot, on 02/26/2008, -2/+11FFS when are digg going to add a block by domain option?
- smotpoker, on 02/26/2008, -1/+10DISCLAIMER: Read the content of this article before digging. It seems to contain some misinformation such as the quote mentioned in comment above, that wasn't checked for accuracy.
This reporter has partaken in such dangerous things as cosmetic surgery and binge drinking to illustrate their harms, it seems this report may try to portray marijuana in the same light and, given the quotes, it already doesn't seem too credible. - 55PercentCrew, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9Weed doesn't give you a hangover. I've never noticed one at least.
- mgrest, on 02/26/2008, -4/+13I read somewhere that smoking weed every day severely impacts your ability to string a coherent sentence together...
- schroeder, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9Link to an episode on LSD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTIMcYTCL2c
I wish I knew what they were saying. - Search153, on 02/26/2008, -1/+10You mean smelling my trash will make me high?
*Runs to garbage can* - kabbalahdigg, on 02/26/2008, -1/+10Is it illegal to consume Marihuana in the UK?
Here in germany it is illegal to posses and trade, but not to consume. Leave alone consuming in another country. - MWeather, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9That's a common misconception among caffeine-addicted alcoholics like yourself.
- firstpost, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9Here's one with subs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNCzDX2hHZY - flashback99, on 02/26/2008, -0/+8Read the scientific studies that come out in detail and you'll be surprised at how the facts about cannabis are so far removed from the BS that the news spews out about this plant.
- bosssmiley, on 02/26/2008, -2/+10Of course dope can cause psychotic breakdown. This was proven decades ago by the hard-hitting investigative documentary film "Reefer Madness". How dare you doubt the wisdom handed down from on high by our self-appointed clerisy of politically funded experts.
- waydee, on 02/26/2008, -0/+8what?
- capiCrimm, on 02/26/2008, -1/+9it's not 10-20% chance. The only thing they've proven is that a bunch of people with mental diseases also tend to smoke marijuana. They have no evidence that marijuana causes or increases risk for it.
- credence, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7I see nothing wrong w/ this.
- brufleth, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7Thank you after school special man!
- DigitalBohemia, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7"It is difficult to see what can be learnt from this experiment. Cannabis affects no two individuals in the same way."
So then shouldn't it be my choice? - mcduarte2000, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7Actually in Portugal is also legal to consume Marijuana. What is illegal is to sell it.
- l33tone, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6That's two youtube links in a row and I have not been RickRoll'd. I am confused by this strange event, but very happy.
- theuber1337, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6Are you seriously comparing drugs to trash? I'm sorry, but people like you need to seriously stop being so self righteous. I don't give a rats ass if you don't want to smoke pot or take acid, but you're not better than those that do.
- HollowMarkeD, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6Welcome to the Daily Mail.
- 55PercentCrew, on 02/26/2008, -2/+8"The risks of cannabis" lol. The only risks are sitting on the coach, eating Cheeto's and watching Scooby Doo.
- MWeather, on 02/26/2008, -1/+7"Your brain has to get used to the THC before you can feel the full effects"
Have you never heard of the endocannabinoid system? There's no need to get used to anything. - Frost9999, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6Fair enough to digg someone down for an essentially meaningless comment, but there could be many legitimate reasons for hating drugs, including one's own addiction to them, or a co-dependent etc etc. There are so many possibilities and it's a shame newsagg didn't bother to expand on the comment.
- Spamcan, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6Oh god forbid the media tries to cover a subject objectively through actual first hand experience rather then regurgitate studies and government propaganda in order to form an opinion. I adamantly believe everyone should try marijuana once, but only when you are mature enough to handle it. If you don't like it, or don't think you can handle smoking it without it negatively effecting your life don't do it again, but I can say from personal experience it's had a very positive impact in my life.
Like a lot of people I used to fall into the propaganda *****, and it wasn't until I had a roommate that smoked that I tried it for the first time. Most of the preconceptions people have are founded on misinformation, or experiences from their idiot friends who "ruined their lives" by smoking. I smoke every day, I have for nearly two years and I've never been late to work or missed a bill payment because of it. It's not a drug that will control your life unless you let it, and if you happen to be that weak willed chances are you'll end up an alcoholic or fall into some other trap, the drug is an excuse and nothing more.
It's greatly reduced my stress level, I get less headaches, it helps with my lower back pain, it's greatly expanded my taste in music and food and helped me form deeper relationships with my family members and friends that smoke. The only negative effect it's had is on my wallet.
So I guess the answer to the question posed is maybe? - bosssmiley, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6"Daily Mail" = Britain's "Fox News".
- ross., on 02/26/2008, -1/+7If you've got nothing to do for the rest of the day, then go for it kid.
Just remember: beer then grass, you're on your arse; grass then beer, you're in the clear. - waydee, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6If anything she should be praised for actually trying it and commenting on the effects - most journalists are quite happy to misquote recent studies and call it a day when it comes to pot in the UK right now. The daily mail is particularly guilty of this, they've been fighting a crusade against responsible cannabis users in this country for a while now.
- chris9902, on 02/26/2008, -0/+5I think it's still illegal here but they down-graded it to a class C drug a couple of years back. That means you don't go to jail for using it or being caught with it but you're not allowed to sell it? It's... complicated.
So it's illegal but they don't really care if you use it. - MWeather, on 02/26/2008, -0/+5You have seen American Idol, right?
