- clogic101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34FYI - The map referenced by this article was taken from the book "Race Differences in Intelligence: An Evolutionary Analysis" by Richard Lynn. The book focuses on intelligence per race NOT nationality. Richard and Co "tested" (actually just used others research) approximately 813,778 individuals worldwide so basically 0.01% of the worlds population. The people tested were only those indigenous to each country, so for Australia only 2.4% (approximately 400, 000 people) of the population is indigenous, whereas Asia has an indigenous population of 70%.
So UCBearcats before posting and commenting on speculative maps by a controversial and at times racist/anti-Semitic author try to understand this: There would have been a minute number of people "tested" in each country, the author has a tainted history towards other races, those tested were only indigenous to each country, only a couple of hundred indigenous Australians would have been tested. So my suggestion to UCBearcats before posting: stop watching athletics and either do more research while attending the University of Cincinnati or find a University that teaches you to research/think...

http://gobearcats.cstv.com/camps/cinn-camps.html - shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23the map is the average IQ of INDIGINOUS people.... completely inaccurate.
that means american indians for america and aboriginals for australia (and chinese people for china etc) Australians are among the most intelligent people on the planet, no one with half a brain would have believed the submitter... - dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I'm pretty sure Australia's average IQ is not 15 points below Forrest Gump.
- tehbored, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18That can't be right. Australia is actually fairly successful. How is that possible if the average IQ is considered "mentally retarded" in the U.S.?
- Batiu-Drami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Inaccurate. It's for indigenous people, if you read the wikipedia article used by it.

A) You don't have to leave Yogurt in the desert for 4,000 years to develop culture. - dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23Racist, creative work with no factual source.
- opiniastrous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Agreed. I call *****.
Australians are clearly not mentally retarded, there's no source whatsoever, statistics attempting to base IQ on race are highly controversial... I could go on. - TenMinuteParty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@ dtfinch
Not trying to be a jerk, but could you explain how it's Racist?
I completely agree with "creative work with no factual source", but imagine if this map was completely factual (as it's being portrayed), and answer this: how is the mapping of Countries in the world based on average IQ's Racist?
BTW, i completely question the validity of these facts, so I'm skeptical too. - DidntYouHear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Average IQ of someone who believes the accuracy of the Average IQ map: Red
- laplacian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5thanks for explaining. I wish the poster would have referenced the actualy article instead of just the image with no explanation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Go China!
- axman6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where i come from, Canberra, we have a very good education system. i will say NSW's is messed up, but only because of the HSC (the people i know who do it must be insane, way to much work). on the whole, Australia's education system is pretty high in world ranking if i remember rightly.... but i may be wrong.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What seems really peculiar is that a racist/anti-Semecist would be so against the native people of Australia, and yet totally pro-Asian. That, and he puts America below Europe and the rest of Asian Russia. Very peculiar racist. Not very smart.
- andrewcod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah...sorry, but I'm not going to believe that a country which is third on the HDI has, on average, a mentally retarded population.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MY IQ IS 166, THE INTERWEB TEST SAIS SO
- WomunOfColour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most people in Asia have universal access to education, while most aboriginals in Australia don't. Also, I doubt whoever tested the IQs of Asians went into the rural areas or North Korea.
- JohnWilkes, on 10/27/2008, -0/+2Wow! there is evidence here to support a conclusion contrary to what many believe.
So they argue
1) I have a conclusion.
2) This evidence does not support my conclusion.
3) The evidence is wrong since it does not support me.
LOL - Kevinok, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Wow that map is really depressing.
- TheElectricMonk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3aren't the only indigenous people of australia the aboriginal tribes? thatd explain the low IQ estimate
- yano, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I don't believe this map is that accurate... they probably had different variation of the test (excluding the variation of language).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1with the source being wiki (often cited on Digg to 'qualify' arguments), I wonder how many of those disagreeing had the balls to log into wikipedia and correct the info. Not many, I guess. They probably wouldn't know how to.
I'm assuming that the suggestion in the thread about 'indigenous only' explains the results. If so, it means that if you're Chinese, you're naturally intelligent. Do I believe that? From personal dealings, some research and intuition, I would expect them to be up there somewhere. And no, I have no links to China. IMO, they are closely followed by Indians. That is a hunch and not based on present, or recent past. More on the depth of a culture and history that goes back centuries. Reminds me of comments that Nixon made in his first trip to China so many years ago.
Many say that the 21st century will belong to these two cultures. Best to be prepared even if it takes decades. Cannot be stopped. - blinky04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You don't need a map to tell you aboriginals are stupid.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, even the European part of Turkey is smarter than the rest of the country! Good thing to know that stupidity inherent from one's "race" can be cured by just crossing the detroit!
- Geek255, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1you people are forgetting it's Average. sure moast of the world is "retarted" as someone else said. becides what clogic101 says makes sence. did "you" take the IQ test??? it's hard to get 6,760,469,556 people to do the same test. (as a side note I think we are nearing the cap ammount the world can handle)
- eliburford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1aihm from australya an i ant stuepid.....
I had quite a bit of trouble writing that actually :p - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The australian education seems high in Australia, but you have to remember they see the world upside down.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, they have been considered stupid since the first european landed there and told them: "We come in peace." and they believed it.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3***** you, dizzyingly accurate map.
- fredtellum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Bravo Sierra.... Funny but wrong.
- Ocr1a, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha ha ha go Aus!. Gees better start educating our indigenous folk.
- axman6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1just like golf
- BinDrinkin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1actually the IQ method states that the average IQ for a population is by definition 100.
IQs range from 0 to above 200, and among children, to above 250. However, about 50% of the population have IQs between 89 and 111, and about 80% of the population have IQs ranging between 80 and 120, with 10% lying below 80, and 10% falling above 120.
So the map should be the same colour for all countries. IQ tests have to be adapted for cultural and socio-economic differances and not producing an average of 100 is an indicator that the test is incorrectly calibrated for that region/cultural group/country - Tanzanari, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I don't think that an IQ test administered via mass media is considered valid. Yay for Australia for taking an IQ test over the television, but it can't be considered as accurate as a standard IQ test.
- xanoshea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1An IQ test results, when collated, should give a normal distribution with mean 100.
Therefore if in any large sample the mean is not 100 the test is faulty, not the intelligence of the respondents.
Tests need to be created so that differences in intelligence, not education affect the results. Clearly this map is based on a biased test. - designbox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2http://mediacentre.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=74574
Read that. Americans are stupid for believing anything. - bf6379, on 06/15/2009, -0/+0The map is based on average IQ of the indigenous population. So Australia's score is based on the average IQ of the Australian Aborigine.
The same study reports that the average IQ of the total Australian population is exactly the same as the USA. - harvard3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0guys, people with low iq doesnt mean they are stupid! IQ doesnt prove anything, its just a test to see how much u kno... THere are people whos iq is lower than 120 and they are in one of the top universities in the WORLD!
- zeroKnots, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0This is pretty funny. There's about 8 different versions of this map, probably all generated by their respective country. But try to find the sources of the data. They omit that little detail..
Look at the Flynn effect. The whole IQ rage changes as problem-solving changes. - highvoltedge, on 04/15/2008, -0/+0I think they counted kangaroos for australia or something
- Tanzanari, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think that the point of this map, and the studies behind it, is that what is average in one group of people, is not average in another group of people.
- LeesyKate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Why do we need to compare different ethnic groups? There will always be intelligent people and stupid people no matter what culture you come from.
Isn't an IQ average taken from a random sample and not the population anyway? You couldn't be 100% accurate unless you took it from the population.
Is it racist? I don't think so. It's just not accurate. The way people think varies from one culture/ethnic group to another. You can't develop a test that assesses each ethnic group's intelligence level equally. Well, you might be able to, but I don't really think so. If you do ever manage it, I'd like to know about it. - JohnWelsh, on 06/13/2009, -0/+0the map is wrong due to one reason, the average IQ in each country is 100, because 100 is defined as average. That simply means that everywhere on the map there should be a 100. That is how the IQ scale works, average IQ is average
- Tanzanari, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If there were IQ differences between ethnic groups, would we be allowed to freely discuss them? Probably not.
If it came to light that, oh, for instance, Estonians were statistically less intelligent than the French, wouldn't there be loud opposition to the idea of saying that a group of people "isn't as good" as another? Certainly intelligence isn't the only marker of a good person, productive citizen, etc, so why is the idea that there may be IQ differences among different peoples "racist?"
I suppose if we talked about genetic differences, and I told you that there is a group of Sub-Saharan men who share a great deal of genetic information with a certain group of apes, more so than any other group in the world, would it be racist?
This is my question, when is it ok to talk about the differences between ethnic groups? - divinelaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm, average iq is by definiton 100, so this map cannot even possibly be correct.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3And that's why I moved to Japan.
- khemetcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Shockley type ingnorance is alive and well....still.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Good thing conflicts with other countries aren't solved by Chess matches, or the Chinese would have us beat
- ursername180, on 10/12/2007, -4/+360 being highest. 105 being lowest.
