"Has anyone seen my prized porcelain statues? ...Klimas you dumb *****, what have you done!"
"Sorry mom. I'm just..."
"You think breaking ***** is art? Is that why I paid for you to go to the best art school? Let's get a still frame of my foot causing shock-waves rippling through your ass." - TheGoat7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16His site: http://www.martin-klimas.de/
All the pictures you need. - PerfektXj, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Sites lagged bad http://bestpicever.com/pic-1009-Clay-fight for people who need
- MikeonTV, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15pics broken
- mrgreenjeans, on 10/10/2007, -10/+20A Nativity scene would be awesome. Baby Jesus flying through the air all Kung Fu style.
- Lumiras, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8wh...what the hell are you talking about, this is nothing like either of those artists
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Some details on how it's done would have been nice. Specifically, what sort of light was used to create such a brief flash.
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6This is the same technique used in balloon popping, bulb shattering, apple shot with gun type of shots. Although you have to have a decent strobe, as many lower powered strobes have less power and stay on long to compensate, not helping you freeze the action.
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7What the heck Digg? I know my comments are good, but everyone doesn't have to read them twice. Man I hate this crappy AJAX comment system. How about we allow comments only if another comment wasn't made in the last 10 seconds for that user?
- qwickone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm sure he took thousands of pics and these are the very best, but the positioning of some of those figurines is really incredible. I especially like the old guy that looks like he's trying to catch his own hand :)
- Emaze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I guess not a lot of people have what it takes to be a GOOD artist, but you've just proven that anyone can be an idiot.
- Auroara, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, basically it's art because the artist says it is. He had a vision to create something (by destroying something.) There are many different things that could be said about this including discussions on the technical aspects involved. Art is created for many different reasons and we don't necessarily have to like them. The difference, in my opinion, between art and doodling is a vision or a message being conveyed by the artist. I don't always think that there is a major vision. Look at how many still life paintings are done of flowers and vases. Why is that art? (P.S. I thought it was a great question.)

Best is the second image in the fourth section. - enigmatics, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3To those who like to bash art. Imagine a world without art, especially your so labeled "trivial art". If we were to stop producing that art it would be a pretty boring world. Every CD you would buy would be black on white text... no cover art. Well, no music for that matter. Books, TV, movies, video games wouldn't exist. You'd have to live without that cheesy poster on your wall. Everything would start to look utilitarian. Sounds pretty boring to me.
So before you go bashing art, thank the artists for at least giving you something to make your day more interesting. And no one ever said you had to pay the money to purchase the art... - lazn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Umm technically it is just after the moment of impact. But still cool.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5And peanut butter meets jelly!
- lithera, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Clueless user meets the interwebs

- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2what ever happened to diggmirror? nobody uses it anymore. Thanks for the link btw
- shmatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2ugh... thanks, but that is of questionablle taste for me. Multicolored syringes inserted into a rubik's cube? WTF!
- robotsongs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Great content, but damn the layout sucks... having to navigate is a pain in the ass!
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2By the way, the above photo (and the others in the gallery) was taken in a dark room with a camera flash held to the side of the glass and triggered by a flash transmitter mounted on the camera.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's either a camera flash or studio strobe. Common stuff. I've done something similar although without the benefit of a sound trigger, relying on trial and error instead. If I was going to break stuff, I'd definately want an automatic trigger though. http://tinyurl.com/399yfp
- ayeroxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Relativity and quantum physics both point to the inexistence of a "now," i.e. there is no such thing as two things happening "at the same time".
With that in mind, the above use is just as valid as any other. - overstim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Id love to see a photograph snapped at the moment his server choked.
- evilevil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1as for the clay model shots - i believe the artist who created those models deserves as much credit, if not more, for this artwork
- Ndiggnation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Cruel, but good word usage.
- stevensj2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No. Not really.
- MBHoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nothing like I expected.
- gllopc, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Link is down. Here's a site with some more examples: http://www.foleygallery.com/artists/artist_ins.php3?artist=32
- HyperJack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks :-)
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A high speed camera with that capability is far more expensive than a strobe light.
- jopsa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, you're late. Piero Manzoni did it quite a few years ago

But I guess you can be competitive and sell yours for $2000, one of his cans was sold recently and went for $171000 - picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No that might be bad luck. He only does figurines.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Haven't heard mention of Doc Edgerton, but he's got to be an inspiration in some way for this type of work.
http://web.mit.edu/edgerton/
I think the Doc would have loved it.
Also, see previous work from David Letterman (dropping things from a 5 story tower / the roof). - iamafatguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Do it yourself: http://www.makezine.com/04/strobe/
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Buddy, first there's Jesus... THEN there's the draconian Chinese no-pictures tourist-control gestapo.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Uh...Heironymous Bosch meets, um, a guy with a camera?
- Moskie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The site's down... but, i don't get it.
Why the complicated setup of detecting sound, then a brief flash, with the lens always open? wouldn't a high-speed camera with the same light source provide the same effect? all while give the artist many multiple shots to choose from.... or am i missing something? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2My favorite "moment of impact" artwork: http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/5172K9H6WAL._AA240_.jpg
- ljpj707, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I have one of his prints in my hallway. The oe I have is a computer monitor - one of those old greenscreen CRT's hitting the floor. It's kinda cool.
- MLisa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the alternate site!
- fakeollie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Oh! I see what you did there.
- cjays1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1From the interview: " But my big teachers are Eadweard Muybridge and Harold Edgerton."
Also, check out Edgerton's work with doves and hummingbirds. - LaurenceCC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Shot with just finger timing!
http://flickr.com/photos/thedjudjubeast/492751653/ - pauliehaha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0cracking!
- SpiroPope, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0One good idea, needlessly repeated countless times. Would have had more impact if he'd just chosen 1 good pic to show. It somehow all seems a bit banal by the end.
- davenitsche, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It's actually a comment on how we change things in our environment to suite our needs. It's about changing who we are, what we eat and how the planet is through chemistry.
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1There's a difference between bashing art, and bashing someone calling something art that isn't.
I can has cheesy poster, and nots call it art. - davenitsche, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hey!!! I worked hard on that annoying flash interface... ROFL!!!!!! I actually have a new site on the way, it's still going to be flash but hopefully not as annoying.... Peace and thanks for the mention
