- j1337, on 10/10/2007, -12/+88I've met some funny women, but I've got to say that every single female comedian on TV is horribly unfunny. Am I a woman-hater because I don't think these comedians are in the least bit witty or amusing?
- luet, on 10/10/2007, -5/+36I think funny women are awesome. I'm happily surprised when people are intelligent, regardless of gender, and with intelligence usually comes a good sense of humour.
- bjkrautk, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30From the Article: "If you say to a woman, 'This guy has a great sense of humor; you have to meet him,' she immediately thinks he's cute and will be a great lover and fun to be around." Really...you think guys are still buying that? You /are/ funny.
IMO, there are 3 types of female comedians: (1) the ones making jokes about women, for women; (2) the ones trying to tell dirtier jokes than the male comics, and; (3) the ones who defy the first two groups by just trying to be funny.
It's not that men are threatened by types 1&2, it's just that they're generally not that funny, IMO. I think you can argue that they seem 'unfeminine,' particularly group 2 (whose entire schtick is to sound like a stereotypical guy).
As for group 3....we're only threatened if they're also good looking. - Jareth86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23No. It's actually a turn on for most guys.
- Ascendant, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25If you're not very successful as a comic and you're a woman, at least you can blame it on men being threatened by you.
If you're not very successful as a comic and you're a man, however, then you must just really suck at comedy! - vault, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Never heard of anyone being threatened by female comedians. There are a lot of successful ones with male fans. I don't even think in general, outside of professional standup, it's an issue.
- fadeout, on 10/10/2007, -7/+27The whole funny with boobs things seems to be working out pretty well for Sarah Silverman.
- DavidGX, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24Uhg.. Lisa Lampanelli is awful.
"Hey everyone, I have sex with black men, BLACK men! African-American males! And I'm a white woman! Holy *****! Is that something or what?"
-_- - reeder, on 10/10/2007, -10/+28I think many women can't distinguish between being funny, and being incredibly rude. Attacking people's weak points is not funny.
Regardless, I'm tired of Inflammatory and ridiculous Tag lines being used by websites, just to get Dugg. - HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17***** that, I'd bang Tina Fey in a heartbeat.
If she wasn't er, married. With a kid. That would be a little awkward no matter how funny she is. - Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Do they mean "Funny Ha-Ha" or "Funny Strange?"
- evi1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16While I literally HATE all those women you mentioned I personally find a women with a sense of humor attractive; not really comedians though.
- offput, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14If by "threatened by" you mean "turned on by" then yes...
- SuperMoses, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16If she wasn't cute, no one would know who Sarah Silverman is.
- shupy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14It depends on why you don't think they are funny. I don't think male comedians are funny when all their material is about how "dumb, silly, foolish" women are. Or they base their humor on making fun of women who are older or fat or homely. Strictly "guy" humor, but it is offensive to women.
A lot of women comedians make fun of men, strictly girl humor, while men get pissed off and don't think it is funny. It's like racial humor. Black guys like Chris Rock can make fun of black people, because he is black. But if a white guy told the same jokes, he'd get lynched. - 4degrees, on 10/10/2007, -11/+22i can partially agree with you, but i have seen many women comics and their material is more or less the same. talk about penis, talk about period, talk about funny feminine excretions, talk about how lesbians are funny, and how people stare at your boobs. so many women comics talking about the same *****, making the same jokes but with slightly different verbage. most of the time the "shut the hell up" comments spur from the fact the material is old and tired. C'mon ladies, lets get some new material.
Not to say men comics dont do the same thing, but i see it more(just about all of them, that i know of) in female comics. - riomx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Too bad Silverman's really not funny at all. None of her jokes go well at all. The VMAs were proof of that. If she wants to be a female shock jock, then she should get on radio. Her jokes suck on TV.
- Rabbethan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12The best part of that joke was the woman in the audience screaming "I don't believe that." and Cross answering with "You're right to not belive that...it was what's described as a joke, I'll be telling a bunch of them tonight..."
- SierraAlpha, on 10/10/2007, -12/+21Come on, lets be honest here. If she wasn't hot and/or dating Jimmy Kimmel you would've never heard of her.
- lkmbrd, on 10/10/2007, -22/+31"Funny women" is an oxymoron.
- pixelate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Well that's kind of case in point-- her whole schtick is saying shocking things that become funny because they're coming out of the mouth of this innocent looking woman. I can only take so much of it, personally.
- fadeout, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Can't say that the being hot thing worked in her disfavor, but I've known about her for many, many years via Mr. Show. :)
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Show - thecrazyd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Most male comedians suck as well. Ditto for any gender of any profession.
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You can't fool me, sir.
- chrisbarr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Every now and then a Female comic comes along that I think is great, but generally I just don't have the same sense or humor as they do.
As far as non-comedian everyday girls, I love girls with a great sense of humor, it shows a certain level of intelligence. I have a lot of friends that are girls with a great sense of humor and I love talking to all of them because of that. Now if I cold just find one of these girls that was single, that would be even better.... - Toshibi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I agree. If you can make me laugh or keep me mentally challenged you've won my heart. The problem is, any woman smart or funny enough to do it is smart or funny enough not to want me.
- amoirae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm sure by the time you're 18 you'll have found a new obsession.
- johnkalel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh.
-W. H. Auden (1907 - 1973)
A woman who makes me laugh? Heaven on earth. - DooDooFace, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9That's BS. Men have to watch who they crack jokes around too, for fear of offending someone.
- benitojuarez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7i love laura kitelinger, whatever happened to her? I havent seen her since they stopped showing the A-List, also karen duff.
- Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10I'm threatened by Margaret Cho, so to answer your question, No.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -12/+18The problem is, women are almost never funny. Sarcastic wit (or other humor I appreciate) is not something I often see from women. The smart ones are too mature, and the dumb ones aren't witty enough. Digg me down for being sexist, I don't care.
- atdigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I wonder, do women find those women commedian funny?
- ecidnac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6No, you're not a woman-hater. Unless I'm a woman-hater, too, which is possible (I'm female, but on issues where males and females generally take opposite sides, I almost always fall on the male side of the line -- I mean, what the hell am I doing on Digg, for instance?)
Anyway, I almost NEVER see a funny female comedian on television. Maria Bamford and Laura Kightlinger are about the only exceptions I can think of. - floridiot2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Here's one you might like then. :)
"I do believe that on a whole, women are definitely smarter than men…I also believe that dogs are smarter than women."
-David Cross - spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Agreed, don't find women soley making jokes about the fact they are a woman funny, don't find jokes by black comedians about being being black funny, don't gay comedians about being gay funny.. etc
I'm not sexist, racist, or homophobic, I just can't relate, and that's an important part of comedy. - allfatherblack, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Why is common that when someone mentions that "this group is prejudiced against for whatever reason" and its not something any normal person will immediately recognize as true, especially regarding women, they often happen to be a part of that group? I have never once thought to myself "women are unfunny" or "women are weak" yet often feminists tell me I think those things...
And Lisa Lampanelli is LESS funny than even Andrew Dice Clay. He was offensive (which I love, so dont start that *****) and unfunny, whereas she is offensive, unfunny, and all of her jokes are direct retellings of the most overused stereotype puns in existence. HAHAHA, Mexicans are lazy, black people steal car stereos, white people are uptight? NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE. - DukeMojo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Or it could be the fact that most (I SAID MOST!) women comedians suck.
But no one can meet the standards of the late and great Hicks. - Nowheredan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Any man threatened by a funny woman is probably boring and can't stand when someone else is the center of attention.
/LOVES funny girls - fugazied, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5God no! A funny woman who is a 7 in the looks department becomes a 9 overall if she is finny. A sense of humour always makes a person more attractive..
- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I don't know, listening to "I tried to fart but I pooped" was one of the most asinine experiences of my life.
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"Attacking people's weak points is not funny."
Yet guys like Maddox get their fanbase by doing so... - Disillusion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4WTF ever, she was on Star Trek!
http://www.tvrage.com/Star_Trek-Voyager/episodes/162910/03x08 - Prathik89, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5- Crossed the Line -
- esbern1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6i need sleep...i thought the title said "Furry Women", which scary the ever living ***** out of me
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your mother.
- LLLSecretChimp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I resent that. How dare you stereotype the easily offended.
- pardonmedoug, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I won't date a girl who can't make me laugh.
- Indyanna, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10No. IMHO a lot of them get very catty and mean. Joan Rivers is a prime example. (Years ago she was funny - now she's vindictive.) For some reason, a guy can deliver jokes - even insults (Don Rickles, for example) and people think he's funny. With women, it doesn't come off well at all. (btw - I am not a fan of Don Rickles for the same reasons I'm not a fan of Joan Rivers.)
- Nateon, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8I don't know, I find a lot of the female comedy acts hard to relate to. I also see a lot of relationship jokes with female comedians which usually end up not being funny. I'll take my George Carlin thank you.
