- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+70Holy crap! It's Riverdale 90210.
- Gus1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Not the only thing around here with a horrible new look....
*ducks* - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Too bad I don't read fark. I'm glad MrBabyMan submited it.
- Jared80KA, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24I'd still hit it.
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I think Rob Liefield should do the art. Then they would all have huge busts and pencil thing mid-sections. Archie could have huge pecs that go on for miles and a 20-pack for abs.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17That's just obscene.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14When's Casper going to start resembling a proper poltergeist? You know, invisible, causing demonic posession, blood dripping from the walls, when he is visible, he's this horribly decomposed drowned boy, and not a cute button nosed marshmallow man?
You'd also have to have Casper's antagonists change as well. Ghost Hunters TV producers, Christians who believe that souls go directly to heaven, give him atheist supporters, voodoo preists. I don't think Wendy the Witch will work either unless they update her. Wiccan Wendy? We can focus group that one...
After all, Casper needs to find an audience with today's kids... - lordthor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15God, I love Digg.... There's so much I would have never known without it.
Anyway, about this story, yeah, that's... totally wrong. They have defaced a national treasure. A monument to the spirit of the 50s, and the hearts of kids and teens around the world, and that which is still alive in us who have grown a bit older. They have popularized Betty and Veronica... that's..... gay. - ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Man this bites. Archie is an icon. It has history for an entire generation. Next thing you know someone will be messing with Star Wars.
- javier182gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Ewwww. No. Unless you are into the whole Mary Kate and Ashley look.(the one on the left). The one on the right looks like she is into sorcery. It just goes to show you that they are trying to appeal todays youth..kind of like those ugly Bratz dolls. Hopefully I am wrong.
- Cappez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"But more importantly, Butler's work also misses the plot by making Betty and Veronica look totally different. Not only does this rob Archie's romantic quandary of its delicious irony (what does it matter which girl Archie picks? They are both the same girl.) but let's face it: one of the reasons the entire Betty / Veronica / Archie love-triangle is so alluring is because Betty and Veronica look exactly like one other, with the exception of hair color. When it comes right down to it, Archie is the personification of every American teenager, and as a pubertal Everyman, his relationship with Betty and Veronica indicates every teenage boy's own deeply seated desire to date two identical twins and eventually convince them to make out with one another while he watches. Right, fellas?"

you see that thing that just went flying over your head? - DrinkPaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is worse than "New Coke"
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6She can afford it since Daddy's rich.
Implants, FTW... - aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Archie is not an icon to anyone under the age of 40. It's completely irrelevant in today's society. The people who make it are trying to appeal to people that don't live in Pleasantville.
- Haohmaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Who actually BUYS this comic? I would love to see what such a person is like.
- alexkim804, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10hey, they look kind of hot now...
just sayin. - krazytom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The look is bad enough. But What about the "Double Digest" title?
It sounds a little...sexual....
I was with Betty & Veronica and they totally Double Digested me. - wordsthatendini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I figured they still made these comics but is there really a crowd of people that line up to purchase Archie comics? Doubt a new design is going to help anything.
- chowderdick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5went from the girls next door to the girls in the next trailer...
- megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If Liefeld drew it, then the characters would all exist on the same Z plane, no one would have feet (they'd be there, just faded scratches), and every page would only have one panel on it.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The new Betty strangely resembles an Olson twin.
- glucoseboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Looks like he violated one of the principle rules of comics: Making characters "too realistic" decreases the attachment we feel to the character.
Scott McCloud's excellent book "Understanding Comics" has a great section on this concept. (It's also a fantastic read for anyone who likes comics) - thomasthecat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is a great idea!
~sips from his can of New Coke~ - PunkPortrais, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Archie is not ***** Mr. Weatherbee!
- edrift101, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I was never sure how Rob Liefield got to be so big. He had style, but it was was crap and he couldn't draw a background to save his blue jeans.
- egrumling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4at the risk of sounding pretentious, Betty and Veronica comprise 'a dramaturgical dyad.' (just trying to fit in...)
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's just really terrible. I think they are trying to make the characters look more like modern comic book characters, but the thing is that your normal comic book reader does not read Archie. Archie isn't relevant in the current comics world, so I don't know what they're trying to achieve
- lostradamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Betty is still way hotter than Veronica!
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's called "manga" and it's ten times as lame as Archie ever was. Which is lame, BTW.
- edrift101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6That's just sad.
- ladymix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah veronica has the bigger rack, who didn't see that coming?
- MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hmm I wonder what the artist was thinking after he finished the revamp?
"Let the Fapping Begin!!!"
Sorry but this new look/style kinda.. well.. something about it I just don;t find appealing. I guess I'm used to the more cartoonish style from before. - joeldiggaccount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"They should have a cross over: X-Men vs. Riverdale."
Well, they did do that "The Punisher Meets Archie" storyline...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Punisher_Meets_Archie - AlphAssassin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Worst. Comic. Ever.
- InetRoadkill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They should have a cross over: X-Men vs. Riverdale. Or maybe a Veronica vs. Betty deathmatch.
The problem with Archie is that it's become rather dated. 1950's poodle skirts, pull-over sweaters and bow ties just don't cut it in the 21st century. On the other hand, Archie is an American icon. It's kinda of a no win situation for the publishers. - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2An obvious attempt to remarket a comic to a younger generation--but through the eyes of a 60 year old. And, if you're going to do more "realistic" figures, it helps to actually know how to draw.
- xpaladin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At least Archie never had an 80's clothing/hairstyle phase. They just warped them into the 90s. I wish I could've been so lucky.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've done some illustrations of what I think other (better) artists might offer an Archie redesign:
http://digg.com/design/Celebrity_Archie_Redesign_Archie_set_in_Sin_City_others_images
Frank Cho is there, Penny Arcade, Frank Miller...
If they're gonna do a character redesign, they could at least get someone better than Steven Butler! I'd love to see Riverdale moved to Sin City... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I for one don't welcome our new manga / olsen looking female overlordettes. yuck.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bangs... eh... not so hot anymore.
- Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4WOW!
I can not believe what happened. Archie is an icon. How do you change something like that. I guess I don't buy the crap and it is for kids of today. Not 50 years ago. But what a hell of a change. I guess everyone has to survive. - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Eww... the new ones make Veronica look like the girl in the Jack Chick strip that led all the poor teens to a life of sin in Dungeons and Dragons.
- matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dan DeCarlo is spinning in his grave. IMHO, DeCarlo invented a kind-of-manga look with a definite sexy American feel.
- KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Archie and Jughead were lovers. Archie was the bitch and Jughead was the butch. That's why he's wearing that crown-looking hat all the time; he the king of queen Archie's world.
- boson3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That fugly look looks like a bad anime infection. Eww. Reminds me of the year when Stinkowitz ruined the New Mutants...
- amoirae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's a nubian?
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3At least it doesn't look like Leave it to Beaver the animated series. Ugh. But then again hardcore fans hate change of any sort.
- MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been buying Archie comics for over 20 years now. With this new change I don't plan on buying any more. This is total garbage. This is NOT A WANTED/NEEDED change!
Remember when Coke tried to change the taste?
Change it back you idiots - rwmnau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It seems to me like the eyes are all screwed up - he's trying to make a the comic look like Mary Worth, but the characters look like they're drawn with a shaky hand and no sense of proportion. I find it hard to think a cartoon is sexy when the eyes aren't lined up.
