- Natitude, on 02/20/2009, -37/+645Can we just ban them from earth?
- rhysboy84, on 02/20/2009, -1/+309I'd let him in, just to see the shock on his face when he realises that all his printed material which says "God Hates Fags" is useless over here. We already know that cigarettes are bad for you.
It could bankrupt him reprinting all them flyers! - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -50/+338Cleric or not, he's a hate-mongering domestic terrorist.
- USArugula, on 02/20/2009, -11/+190I'm still trying to determine how the existence of Britain squares with Phelps' flat-earth age ideologies.
- ChonoonFiend, on 02/20/2009, -22/+196And it's ***** like him who give Christians a bad name.
- Killphibian, on 02/20/2009, -4/+177I think the "God hates fags" people got kicked out of Canada a while ago too.
- Ramble, on 02/20/2009, -5/+114I always laugh when Americans think we're insulted when they degrade the royal family. Everyone here hates the royal family.
- Abomonog, on 02/20/2009, -36/+135No. Christians do a pretty good job of giving themselves a bad name without his help.
He's just icing on the cake. - jenkins19m, on 02/20/2009, -3/+86God hates fags!
They cause lung cancer, turn your fingers yellow, your teeth black, make your hair and clothes smell something awful, and cost over £5 for a packet of 20.
Sod that, stick to the single malt. Amen - mojoel, on 02/20/2009, -1/+82FTA: A posting on Phelps's companion website God Hates the World this week stated: "God hates England. Your Queen is a whore. You're going to hell."
Mr. Phelps & family, you douchebags, are you ever in for a ***** surprise after you die! If Queen Elizabeth is indeed going to Hell, you'll be room mates with her. - Altotus, on 02/20/2009, -1/+79Now you make me want to go to his website and post "God hates fags, he prefers spliffs."
- eclectro, on 02/20/2009, -20/+94Hate mongering, harassing even, perhaps he might be. Terrorist no. Stop using post 9/11 propaganda to further your unrelated agenda
- AboveandBeyond, on 02/20/2009, -4/+74now you know how muslims feel when you call osama bin laden and other terrorists as the leaders of islam and muslims.
- sinisterouge, on 02/20/2009, -8/+69All in favor?
Aye - pudgyv, on 02/20/2009, -5/+63As an Evangelical Christian I admit, with much sadness, that you are correct.
- MacParrot, on 02/20/2009, -9/+66What's your point?
- digitalpencil, on 02/20/2009, -2/+57Just because he is granted those rights in his own country, does not mean he receives the same luxuries in ours.
We of course have the right to free speech but we also prohibit the incitement of racial hatred and now, after an amendment made to the Public Order Act in 2008, it is now also an offense to incite hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation. What he plans to do here is a criminal offense, since he has expressed no other reason for visiting our country, we are well within our rights to prohibit his visit.
This is the same ***** we had with that Abu Hamza prick, we eventually convicted him for soliciting murder, inciting racial hatred and under the Terrorism Act. He was sentenced to 57 years but we couldn't extradite the ***** because the US wanted to string him up and the EU forbids extradition to countries which impose the death penalty. I think we've since come to an agreement whereby he will be extradited but won't be put to death.
***** this dude though, the yanks stop you visiting if you have a drug offense on your record, i think we should be allowed to prohibit entry if your a prick.. We'll call it the 'your-a-complete-prick amendment of 2009'.. - marmotman, on 02/20/2009, -1/+55If you go to his website it says he is planning on going to Australia and protest there about something along the lines of "Australia deserved the fires. It's God's wrath for being ungodly savages" I'm just paraphrasing there but his exact words on his website are "Then these insincere, violent, feces-eating brutes call themselves having a "Australia National Day of Mourning"."
I hope they let him in because he will probably be killed and we wont have to deal with him anymore. - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -3/+52This prick isn't worth the debate. To quote Duke Nukem, "Eat ***** and die"
- tinkafoo, on 02/20/2009, -2/+49Cleric? No, he's a ***** homophobic idiot.
- drmangrum, on 02/20/2009, -10/+53Unfortunately, once you start banning some speech, you effectively ban all speech.
Where is the line drawn? Hint: there is no line.
This is one of the reasons why America ( no, I'm not a blind "rah-rah go Team America" type ) is one of the greatest nations in the world; You have the right to say anything you want without the government getting involved.
Dictatorships start with good intentions. It's all the little freedoms you give up that make it possible. - MacParrot, on 02/20/2009, -8/+51He does indeed have the right to free speech. He just doesn't always have the right to go where he wants to express it
- Darkaged, on 02/20/2009, -20/+63I don't like him and I strongly disagree with his views, but I don't feel that he should be banned from our country. Does he not have the right to free speech?
- seanstuart, on 02/20/2009, -3/+45Ahh, Fred. I'll always remember when he protested a soldier's funeral, saying that God was punishing us for our tolerance of gays, with a sign "Thank God for 9/11." Fox News reported him and his tard family as "anti-war protesters." Ahh, Fox News.

- insanebrain, on 02/20/2009, -0/+40Don't feed the trolls.
- pintomp3, on 02/20/2009, -8/+47He can live in his magical Jesus spaceship. Happy now? I know bigots and religious fundamentalists are your favorite people, but do you really want to rush to Rev Phelps defense?
- Dreamstate, on 02/20/2009, -5/+43Or they don't have the same acceptance for ignorant *****.
It could go either way. - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -4/+42Right to speech doesn't mean I should be able to go around shouting "*****" without consequences. This man has every right to say and do what he wants, but there are associated consequences.
- DeepFriedFetus, on 02/20/2009, -9/+46"Hate-mongering" is an open-ended abstraction which can be used by the government to silence dissent and restrict liberty. It is a similar mentality to thoughtcrime. Governments are meant to judge by action, not by a subjective concept of "hate".
- alski707, on 02/20/2009, -1/+38Please do correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t free speech in America protected only for its own citizens?
Regardless, as a brit, I don’t want that foul mouthed, attention seeking, drama whoreing excuse for a human being in my country, if all he has to say is hate then ***** his free speech. - gordonj, on 02/20/2009, -1/+38One of my favourite Bill Bailey Quotes about the national anthem "God save our gracious queen...":
"Why would anyone invoke a non-specific deity to bail out these unelected sponges?" - novenator, on 02/20/2009, -2/+37I think he almost flew off the edge trying to find it.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -9/+42Everyone dies at some point. Why not in an explosive decompression in space?
- theberlindoctor, on 02/20/2009, -0/+31I know its dualistic, but I had to digg both comments up. You're both right.
- Abomonog, on 02/20/2009, -7/+38There are limits to freedom of speech. Phelps attempts to incite violence and hatred where ever he goes so I would say he crosses the line.
- flammablewater, on 02/20/2009, -1/+31an excellent point
- Sublex, on 02/20/2009, -21/+50I hate doing this, but I believe that his freedom of speech protects him...
- USArugula, on 02/20/2009, -2/+31And landed on Digg.

- zombie210, on 02/20/2009, -2/+30QUICK! Ban him from returning and he'll be stuck on a boat in the north atlantic!!!
- onyxraven1979, on 02/20/2009, -0/+27Fred Phelps is running a scam, not a church. He is a disbarred lawyer . His wife is an attorney. His kids are attorneys. Here is the scam: They apply for permits to protest. They hope they are denied so they can sue. If they aren't denied, it is time for Plan B: Act like such outrages jerks that someone takes a swing at one of them, tosses a bottle, etc. Then they sue the town for not protecting them. Before he was disbarred he was a civil rights attorney, and used that experience to turn civil rights on its head and make himself some cash, kind of like a former locksmith becoming a master safecracker and thief.
- PeanutCheeseBar, on 02/20/2009, -16/+42"The government has made it clear it opposes extremism in all its forms. We will continue to stop those who want to spread extremism, hatred and violent messages in our communities from coming to our country … regardless of their opinions and beliefs."
That's funny; Islamic extremism and Sharia don't seem to have been held to this standard in England. - joeydoo, on 02/20/2009, -4/+30Jacqui Smith should have said. "Back of the £10 note... look it, that's Darwin bitch! Go sell crazy some place else, we're all stocked up here"
- amoirae, on 02/20/2009, -2/+27He couldn't get into a role playing game as a village idiot, much less a cleric.
- ohplease, on 02/20/2009, -2/+26
Let's make one thing VERY clear.
These aren't Phelps's beliefs he's spreading. He has a huge extended family of lawyers. He tries to incite people into attacking him and his group, and when they do so they sue the city they are in for not protecting them.
He has done this over and over again. It's how he makes money. Phelps doesn't care about "fags", he just wants you to throw things at him so he can get paid. -
